Good Morning to Ya
Ten years after my father’s kidnapping, and the death of my mother. I enlisted with a military group entitled to keep the peace of newly founded colonies. One of my closest friends tells me that they do more than just that. They toppled over countless criminal organizations and insurgent groups that threaten both the Republic, and its citizens. I must start like the other recruits, a grunt. Then move up five different classes then get promoted to the next rank and so forth. Today is going to be a good day.
I walk into the recruiting station in downtown New Joseph. The lobby room is dull and lifeless. With a bunch of phones ringing and pencils breaking, it feels like I stepped back in time. The lady at the register is very old and looks like she’s about to pass over with boredom. I walk up to her, “Hello mam, I like to enlist with the Survey Corps.”
The lady began looking up at me and smiled, “Here you go sunny, just fill out this paper work and you’ll be on your way to the academy near Brunswick.”
The paperwork was thicker than the “Harry Potter Series”. I can probably shoot a 44mm. Magnum rail gun and still won’t go through. About six hours of signing and documenting, I handed back the paperwork and headed out the door. Then a voice called my name, “Cloud Yugotav! Are you that boy that survived that house invasion ten years ago?”
“Why yes ma’am!”
She look at me straight in the eye. “Good luck to ya, have a good morning tomorrow at boot camp.”
I wave goodbye and headed back to my air speeder my uncle gave me. The trip even in a car that can go 300 mph will take two hours to get there. I’ve never been to Brunswick, even though it’s been founded 20 years before New Joseph. Maybe because the mountains there are the tallest in the known galaxy. Most peaks average 45,000 feet and some even reach upwards of 80,000 feet. The mountains are so tall in fact, you can actually see them here in New Joseph. Luckily for me and millions of other people that live on this planet. The atmosphere is extremely thick. You can almost climb up to 55,000 feet before needing a respirator for condensed oxygen. The town however, is caressed in a canyon at an altitude of 35,000 feet. A couple hours later, I come to find out that you’ll need Jedi skills just to get through the canyon.
With a lot of concentration, I got through the canyon to see the town. With bridges crisscrossing the canyon at every angle, it might be a better idea to land the speeder and walk on foot.
