The white noise was actually sort of relaxing to Twilight’s ears, unlike the awful thundering sound of hooves as she sprinted in a full gallop up the stairs. Twilight groaned as her legs began to tire from running. Luckily, there were only a few more steps ahead. Celestia, why didn’t I teleport?
Walking up the last step, she smiled as she spotted Doctor Stable exiting Scootaloo's room. “Doctor, may I speak with you for a moment?” Twilight trotted up to the stallion. “This an important matter that needs to be resolved.”
He had bags under his eyes, and he yawned as she came to a stop. “Princess, I have told you before. It was simply an anxiety attack.”
Twilight stomped her hoof down.“Scootaloo never showed any sign of that! Explain.”
Doctor Stable adjusted his glasses. “After our little discussion yesterday, I did some digging in our confidential patient records. Scootaloo was once a patient here, and in her records, I discovered that at the age of ten, she had another anxiety attack and was prescribed medication, but neither of her guardians ever filled that prescription. To further my investigation, I asked Scootaloo, and she confirmed she was afraid of what the future will hold after her birthday ends. I believe that led to her attack.”
“Age ten? So this must mean it happened a while ago...” Twilight thought. “Did she say anything else?”
His head shook quickly.“Not that I know of.”
“Well, I believe what happened to Scootaloo is linked to the Thestrals,” Twilight said sternly. “Are you familiar with their anatomy?”
Doctor Stable paused but shook his head seconds later.
“Bat ponies, or thestrals, have better senses than the other races in Equestria. Their abilities are heightened to a degree, but some of their senses are less developed than normal ponies. It’s a trade-off.” Twilight hummed. “Knowing what made her senses do that to her is what I’m worried about. Maybe you’re right, maybe you’re wrong. We don't always hold the answers, Doctor. It could be both, and we wouldn’t even know it.”
“Interesting,” Doctor Stable said, rubbing his chin. “I wouldn’t have thought of that because I’ve never treated such a patient.”
“Really?” Twilight said. “That’s odd.”
“Hmmm, yes it is. They’re hardly ever seen around Ponyville, except for when they accompany Princess Luna.”
“I’ll have to look into that more, but for right now I’m more worried about her safety.” Twilight sighed and said nothing for the next few seconds. “Wait.” Twilight’s eyes widened as a realization struck her. “Is Scootaloo awake?”
He remained silent for a couple seconds. “Yes, I believe so,” he replied.
Twilight took her leave, approaching the door. She heard sniffling as she walked in. “Oh no.” She sat down in the chair beside the bed. “You heard us, didn’t you?”
“Uh huh.” Scootaloo nodded. “D-d-does that… I’m not a…”
Tears trailed down Scootaloo’s eyes, and her sniffles made Twilight’s heart sink. She could only mutter a simple “I’m sorry.” before returning to the deathly silence.
“Wait a minute.” Scootaloo pushed free of Twilight’s hug. “ Doctor Stables said I may have aneixry. It could have been that.” Scootaloo shouted. “I can’t be one of them. You said yourself.”
Scootaloo’s sniffles gave way to sobs. Twilight soothingly slipped her hooves around the filly as her own eyes began to water. “No, I said it’s a possible. Listen, Scootaloo, are you familiar with thestrals?”
Scootaloo thought for a moment. “I don’t think so.”
Twilight rubbed her chin.“Alright then, some call them bat ponies. Are you familiar with that term?”
Scootaloo tapped her chin. “Do they have bat-like wings?” Twilight nodded. “I think, yeah, when I was seven I saw Luna’s guards during Nightmare Night.”
“I believe whatever happened to you has something to do with their senses.”she frowned. “Doctor Stables thought and still probably do, had something to do with anxiety.”
“Well it could have something to do with anxiety. You just don’t know until I have bat wings or something!”Scootaloo pushed free of Twilight’s old. “Until I see proof, I’m not one of them!”
Twilight nodded.”I’m sorry to shove this thersal theory in your face.”Twilight returned the hug, ignoring the nurses and Doctor Stable watching the scene as they stood by the door. “You won’t be alone in this, Scootaloo,” she said, brushing aside the filly’s mane. “I promise.”
Scootaloo couldn't hold it in anymore as she cried into Twilight’s chest. “C-can I go home?”
Twilight turned to the doctor. His response was a nod, bringing a smile to Twilight’s face. “You sure can.”
When the hospital doors opened, the sun was high in the sky, glaring down on Scootaloo as she made her way around the ponies headed in and out. The sky was mostly clear except for a few scattered fluffy clouds in the wind. Scootaloo felt uneasy as ponies passing by casted glances at her before talking away.
“I’m sorry for yelling,” Scootaloo said after a moment of silence.
“It’s okay.” Twilight turned around and continued walking.Twilight smiled and placed a foreleg over Scootaloo’s withers as they trotted on. “Happy to be out the hospital?”
“Definitely.” Scootaloo rubbed her neck. “Those beds were uncomfortable.”
Twilight giggled. “Well, you can rest easy since Apple Bloom did all your chores while you were away.”
“I guess my day isn’t going to be that bad." A faint chuckle escaped Scootaloo’s mouth .
Twilight smiled.“See? Now you’re getting it.”
Scootaloo turned, facing with a frown as she walked, killing the mood soon as it started. “Don’t tell them, Twilight. Not yet. Until we see results, until I become of them. Don’t tell them. ’I’m not ready.”
Twilight sighed.“Okay. If that’s what you want. You won’t be able to hide this forever.”
Scootaloo stayed silent the rest of the walk.
Way too much redundancy in this. Several mentions of the sun and two mentions of Scootaloo being blinded by it.
