It's Just Skin Twilight...
It’s Just Skin Twilight….
Twilight awoke slowly in her bed to the sound of some pony pounding on her door frantically. As if it wasn’t hard enough to get used to sleeping in this darn castle, she had ponies banging on her door every other hour and at all hours of the night that needed things. Most of the time they weren’t even anything important and that above all really bugged her; she needed a request box.
Twilight rose from her bed, fixed up her bed head, grabbed her crown and made her way to the door. Spike had soon followed behind her, his slumber also disturbed by the noise. She opened the door to the surprise of Sheriff Gold Star, one of Ponyville’s newest police officers. He was a rather old Colt being somewhere between 45 and 50 but he was a good pony and an excellent officer. His
coat was a light gold and mane dark brown with a couple streaks of gray.
“Oh Sheriff, I didn’t expect a visit from you today.” She said looking at the clock on the wall. “And so early, it’s 4:30 am. What could be so important that is can’t wait until at least 8?” Twilight asked as she sleepily rubbed her eye to try and wake up a bit more.
“I am sorry to disturb your sleep Princess Twilight, but this is a matter of utmost importance and we felt that you should know about it immediately.” Sheriff Gold Star said lowering his head. The look in his eye was one Twilight had never seen before. It was a look of pure terror and sadness. Whatever had happened last night must have been truly gruesome.
“Okay, where is whatever you need me to see?” She asked frowning a bit, knowing she’d regret going to see this.
“It’s in town square. We must hurry and document it before the rest of the town wakes up. I don’t want them to see this.” Gold Star said as he began trotting toward town square.
Twilight sighed and told Spike to stay put as she followed close behind Sheriff Gold Star. In the Distance Twilight could make out a large tent over the spot the fountain in Ponyville would normally sit. That must be where whatever scene took place. As Twilight got closer, a horrid and gag worthy stench hit her muzzle to which she quickly covered it.
“Sweet Celestia what is that putrid smell. Oh I think I’m going to barf.” She said doing her best to hold it back.
“That is the smell of rotting flesh, a smell known all too well to a guard as old as me.” He said shaking his head. “Princess I’ve seen plenty a murders in my days, but never one in Ponyville as horrid as this.” Gold Star as he opened the tent and the smell hit Twilight full force.
The smell, paled in comparison to the scene it belonged to. Strung up by what looked like thread was what looked like the remains of a horribly mutilated pony. Twilight was horrified but could not look away strictly because of how gruesome the scene was. The pony’s chest and gut was sliced open completely, his intestines strung around him as some sort of decoration. Strips of skin were missing from his flank showing his cutie mark had been removed, but it was not missing. The skin had been tanned and turned into a patch that lay at the foot of the fountain, a note next to it that read ‘A Present for the New Princess’. The most gruesome part to Twilight was that skin had been sliced off and stretched around the face and the head tilted slightly to give the mutilated corpse the appearance of a delightful grin. Twilight shook and paled horribly at the sight before but soon turned her eyes to the last piece evidence at the scene.
On the wall of the fountain, written most likely in the dead pony’s blood was the phrase ; ‘Don’t worry, it’s just skin.’ Twilight quickly backed out of the room and curled up on the ground, shaking horribly, the image of the smiling pony forever burned into her mind. “Who, who would do such a thing?” She said with a shaky voice.
“That is what we aim to find out. So for the unicorns in the magical forensics squad can’t seem to pick up anything. No hoof chips, no hair, not even residual prints or magic.” Gold Star said in a worried tone. “Whatever or whoever did this, they are surely not mentally stable.” He said as he took a long breath.
Twilight slowly stood up and said. “Please clean this up and let no one know about it. The only ponies who shall know will be yourself, me, a team of two investigators of your choice, and the forensics team. If they are asked about it, they are to lie. Got it?” Twilight finished sternly.
“Yes Princess Twilight. I will be sure to keep you updated about the case should any more incidents arise or any progress is made.” Gold Star said saluting her. He then escorted Twilight back to her castle where Spike stood at the door waiting for her.
“So Twilight, what was all that about?” the little dragon asked curious.
“It’s nothing Spike. Just some documents the guard found and wanted me to look over, that’s all.”she said with a slight smile. She knew above all, she couldn't let Spike be exposed to something like that. He was far too young to cope with such a thing.
“Well okay Twilight. Anyway, I made you some oatmeal while you were gone.” He said grinning happily.
“No thanks Spike. I’m not hungry right now.” She said smiling and patting his head. “I’ll be in my room.” She said trotting off. She knew after that, it would be quite difficult to eat anything and hold it down. She sat in the center of the room as one thought constantly crossed her mind. “Whoever this pony is, they want my attention. The only question is, why?”
