Shelter From A Tornado
The Only Chapter
Load Full StoryRainbow Dash grumbled as she trotted through the snow and up towards Fluttershy's door, her green scarf nearly frozen by the cold air. She would have flown, but her feathers were frozen solid. She had tried to break the ice, but it had been no use. She made it to the door, feeling relieved as she banged her hoof against the wood. She felt heat rush towards her body as she heard a small creak. A pink mane made its way through the crack, looking around the edge to see who was visiting. When Fluttershy saw who it was, she put on a smile and opened the door fully to let her friend in.
Rainbow Dash muttered about how she hated winter and ice as she walked in, proceeding to wipe her snowy hooves on a mat. Fluttershy silently closed the door behind her friend and locked it with a loud click noise, even though there was no point in locking your door in Equestria. No crimes had ever been committed (by normal ponies, thus excluding Sombra and Chrysalis) in the peaceful land of ponies and griffons.
Rainbow Dash yanked her long green scarf off her neck with her mouth and carelessly threw it down onto the floor, immediately making her way to the couch. Fluttershy, being the element of kindness, picked up her friend's scarf in her mouth and proceeded to put it on the door knob neatly, smiling at the act of kindness she had done.
"So," Rainbow Dash said as she got comfortable on Fluttershy's squishy couch. Fluttershy, startled by the sudden sound, whipped around to face her friend. "Whoa, chill out! Now how about some hot chocolate!" She yelled as she grabbed the TV remote and turned it on to the sports channel, lying down with her legs stretched out.
"D-do you want marshmallows too?" Fluttershy almost whispered while she hid behind her pink mane, her legs wobbling a little in fear of what her friend would say.
Rainbow Dash pondered this for a moment while she stroked her chin before shouting,"Of course I do! What's hot chocolate without them?" Fluttershy nodded to herself and trotted into the kitchen, grabbing her needed supplies. As Fluttershy grabbed her box of hot chocolate, Rainbow Dash now sat on the edge of the couch, watching the television with wide eyes. It was nearing the end of the game, and Rainbow Dash was anxious to see what team won, even biting her hooves.
"NOOOOO!" She screeched as her favorite hoofball team lost. Fluttershy, who had been standing on a stool to reach the top cabinet because she was too scared to fly up, yelped in shock as her friend's cry reached her ears, scaring her almost to death. Fluttershy leaned backwards on instinct, casing the stool quickly fall on its side, sending the pony standing on it crashing to ground.
Thud Rainbow Dash's ears perked up at the sound. Concerned for her friend, she got of the couch and walked into the kitchen, finding Fluttershy on the left side of the now broken stool, hot chocolate powder covering her face. Once Rainbow Dash was sure she was fine, she burst into laughter at the sight of her friend.
"Ohhhhhh," Fluttershy mumbled as she got into a sitting position, rubbing the back of her now sore neck. She was still shaky from the experience, and she felt like something was on her head. She didn't know her head was completely covered in the chocolate powder, making her look like a chocolate monster. Rainbow Dash fell onto her back laughing, tears beginning to come out of her eyes. Fluttershy raised an eyebrow, confused by her friend's laughter.
Fluttershy, who wanted to see why Rainbow was laughing so hard, climbed to her hooves and walked into the bathroom. She couldn't help but snicker at the sight of her chocolate covered face. It was a bit funny. Fluttershy lifted a hoof up, turning the sink on and proceeding to stick her face under the warm water, rinsing all the powder off her face, revealing her yellow fur.
By the time she was done and walked back into the kitchen, Rainbow Dash was still laughing like a crazy hyena. Fluttershy sighed and walked over the Pegasus, picking up the broken stool pieces and throwing them away. Angel, who had just wandered into the kitchen, grabbed the broom from next to the fridge and began to sweep up all the tiny pieces of wood and chocolate powder. When Fluttershy saw this she put on a warm smile and patted Angel on the head, who simply twitched his nose in response.
By the time the room was cleaned up, Rainbow Dash had returned to her senses, her face red from laughing so much. A grin was still present on her red face though.
"Sorry," Rainbow Dash said as she wiped a tear off her cheek. "I needed a good laugh like that today, You okay?" Fluttershy simply nodded in response, suddenly realizing that she had no way up to the top cabinet to retrieve her spare box. She began to bite her lower lip. She looked over to Rainbow Dash, who was making her way back to the couch. Fluttershy reluctantly took a step closer and spoke.
"Um...Rainbow Dash," She whispered as her friend walked off. Rainbow Dash, who used to her friend's quiet way of speaking, only heard a soft sound but turned around anyways, assuming it was her friend who had created it. Fluttershy kept her head low, hiding behind her mane.
"C-can you help me get the b-box?" She whimpered as her friend watched her speak. Rainbow Dash shoved her ears forward and put a hoof next to one.
"What?" Fluttershy took a deep breath before speaking again.
"Can you h-help me get the hot c-chocolate b-box?" This time Rainbow Dash had heard her friend's whimper.
"Sure!" Rainbow Dash yelled as she darted past her shaking friend. Fluttershy sighed with relief, letting her shoulders slump down a little as she followed Rainbow Dash into the kitchen. By the time she entered, Rainbow had already started to boil water.
“Rainbow Dash! I’m your host, I should be making it!” She exclaimed as her friend retrieved two cups from the cabinet.
“Don’t worry about it! I’ll make it while you relax on the couch. You did just fall off a stool,” Rainbow Dash replied as she began to hunt for the marshmallows. Fluttershy reluctantly let her friend continue what she was doing while she made her way back to the living room.
She quickly grabbed the remote to her TV, changing the channel to Animal World. She smiled as she saw two bear cubs appear on the screen, wrestling each other as their mother kept an eye out for predators.
“Awwww!” She yelled as they began to nuzzle each other, the sheer cuteness warming up Fluttershy’s heart. She leaned back on her couch, enjoying each moment of the show. Her sore neck was quickly forgotten as the bears began to chase butterflies, grumbling in frustration when they opened their paws to see that they didn't catch one. A low thud suddenly entered Fluttershy's ears, along with the smell of chocolate, forcing a 'mmmmmm' from her mouth as she imagined how good it would taste.
Suddenly she felt herself lifted up slightly, and looked to the side to see Rainbow Dash sitting on the couch beside her, taking a few sips of her beverage. She then looked at the coffee table before her to see her own drink.
"Thank you," She whispered as she picked up the mug and brought it to her lips, savoring the sweet taste of chocolate and marshmallows. The girls continued to enjoy the evening, sipping hot chocolate and watching bears cubs wrestle each other. It was a perfect Christmas eve. Well, it was.
As Fluttershy set down her now empty mug, she suddenly heard a loud beeping. BEEEEP...BEEEEP...BEEP...BEEP... It was an emergency alert. Fluttershy began shaking badly as she read the text on her TV. It said a tornado had been spotted on the outskirts of Ponyville.
"A tornado, oh my goodness!" Fluttershy yelped after she looked at the emergency alert, she turned her head to Rainbow Dash. Whom of which continued to sip her hot chocolate then saw the concerned look on Fluttershy’s face. The timid pegasus and Rainbow Dash thought of ways on how to end this night on the right note in the comfort of Fluttershy’s cottage, they both scooted closer to each other on the couch.
"Fluttershy, no matter what happens I’ll be here to protect you," The multi-colored pegasus held Fluttershy’s head close to her chest and brushed her mane softly against her hoof, feeling the soft, gentle pink strands of hair in her mane. "You can always confide in me."
The two pegasi leaned in closer as their cheeks were covered in a bright, red blush. Their lips meet and they felt the warmth of their kiss brighten up the atmosphere in the small cottage that they were laying comfortably on the couch in, even the tornado’s emergency alert could not dampen their mood.
