Olds rivals and New (not so) rivals

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

“Our knights shall win this encounter without a doubt.” The princess of the night commented to her sister causing her to roll her eyes for that sudden behavior yet very well known.

“What makes you believe that my knight will not win again?” And like that, a bit of Luna’s confidence was a bit shattered but she still held a lot of confidence on her knights who almost obtained victory in the last Equestrian Games.

An innocent(sinister) smile appeared on Luna’s lips when she was about to reveal the little secret of her faction..”Because our knight had broken several records in their training and our student has mastered a new element.”

“Those are greats news but just to inform you; my knights and student didn’t stay behind.” Celestia replied and at the same time shattering another bit of her sister confidence, but still enough to remove that not so innocent smile of hers, and she just stared at her with a face decorated with the facial expression of pure surprise but not unwelcomed, because when the warriors of the Moonlight achieve the victory; it will taste much better.

But something nagged in the back of Celestia’s mind, she didn’t made it obvious but she was trying so hard to figure out what was missing in the whole thing, to her relief Luna was the one who noticed it.

“Which team do you think will come out as winner this time Cadance?” She turned her head to speak to her dear niece face to face as it should always be but she stared at an empty cushion.

“Where did she go?” Luna question was actually unnecessary, after all Celestia knew perfectly well why her niece left and thinking about it caused her to laugh but with class and regalia as a proper princess of Equestria.

“It seems that our dear niece didn’t wait to begin her quest on finding her own knight.” With that said Luna recalled the past events involving Cadance and the reason of her sudden disappearance; nothing too serious..

“Hopefully she will be occupied for a long time, but what can we do until the Games begins?”

“An easy question with an easy answer Luna.” The Sun princess shifted her weight for a more comfortable position where she could relax and enjoy the view.”We get comfortable and something to eat.”

“A wondrous idea sister.” Luna cleared her throat before speaking again. “We require some assistance!” A Thousand of years ago she would have yelled rather than just raising her voice the necessary but in that time one has the time to learn from mistakes and understand more about life or other things.

“What do you wish your highness?”The one who came in was a earth pony butler who was already accustomed of the princess taste in food and drinks.

“Bring us the usual.”

“As you wish your majesty.” With a nod the butler left with moderate speed.

Moments later he arrives with the requested items on a silver plate, both princess gab what is theirs and the butler left the room.

Without further interruptions Luna began to drink to the bottom.

“You should stop drinking so much Soda Luna, it might ruin your figure. “ Commented Celestia as she took a sip of her cold but delightful tea.

“I like the feeling of bubbles popping inside my mouth.” The genuine smile which the younger sister gave, brought a warm smile to Celestia's face; however it didn’t last when a very important thought invaded her mind. She could have spit the tea if she would have been drinking but it didn’t happen so no worries in there.

“Oh! I almost forget that our students are about to start their duel.”

Luna became a bit confused and raised an eyebrow at the oddity of the statement since that pecial event is for much later time.“But I thought that their duel is after archery.”

“This time I made a few arrangements so our students can accompany us in watching the rest of the Equestrian Games.” Finishing the sentence her throat felt a bt dry but nothing that can be helped with a large sip on her delicious and healthy tea.

“I don’t see a problem then.” Unlike Luna who is drinking an unhealthy drink in high quantities.

“But I do sister.”

An unexpected problem had arisen which Luna wasn’t aware in the slightest the moment her sister mentioned it. She couldn’t deduce which problem was it until Celestia explained it further so many thing could be problem. Until then she could only give concerned expressions.

“Sunset Shimmer will not be able to defeat Twilight this time..”

Or not problem at all, just healthy competitiveness between two sisters.

Meanwhile….

The prized student of Celestia, Twilight Sparkle, was nervous to put it simple. It was a complete surprise when the message arrived to her about her encounter was going to be the first event to take place on the Games

Is normal to be nervous, after all that feeling is a natural reaction of the rational being; however she became nervous because she had lost already in the last Equestrian Games against Luna’s prized student. So the nervousness that she was feeling was understandable; but this time she had a trick under her sleeve; a trick which she achieved by training, studying, meditating hard and hard with all the effort she could give.

Under the tutelage of Solaire she learned how to summon the Sunlight Spear, the maximum weapon and movement of the Warriors of Sunlight, but Twilight managed to turn that lethal attack into a non-lethal one; enough to incapacitate an opponent in one clean strike. She didn’t know if Sunset had the same idea but it didn’t matter because going with that new move will caught her off the guard.
But right now she couldn’t be thinking things like that because she needed to concentrate so she could be ready for the encounter, her mind needed to be clear as the snow and water, but being so focused in the meditation; she never noticed somebody in particular who sat besides her.

“Sometimes the best remedy is to talk your problems to another.” The deep, kid and wise voice of a beloved knight make itself present in the room.

Her eyes opened as she turned her head to right and meet Solaire’s face, or well at least his helmet since he pretty much didn’t take off his helmet unless it was requested from Celestia herself.“Oh, Hello Solaire.”

“Greetings little one, I see that you are preparing yourself to show the magnificence of Sun, but first you should speak your problems.”

“To be honest Solaire, I’m a bit nervous.” The honest truth in that sentence brought a bit of shame to her, but Solaire was right; she felt weight on her heart be lifted from her.

“You have nothing to be nervous about little one, because you have been training with all your might these past years, haven't you?” His words spoke the true and it couldn’t be proved otherwise, Celestia and Solaire were proud of how much she had progressed.

“Yes, I have.” However both ears folded back. “Is just that I don’t want to disappoint any of you again.” Sadness overwhelmed once again the moment she recalled the events of years ago despite they reassured her many time that she shouldn’t be ashamed or sad about that.

It didn’t matter because they will always give a shoulder to rest and comfort.“We have already talked about this with our Sun little one, you will never be a disappointment because even if you fail then that only means that you must train harder for the next occasion.”

At hearing his kind words a smile adorned her face and in an instant Solaire was enveloped by a strong hug from Twilight, he was such a great friend.

“Thank you Solaire, I needed that.”

The embrace was returned, proportioning comfort which she needed. The moment could last all the time in the world but there was something happening outside and couldn’t be ignored even for that small moment of happiness.

With that done Solaire asked.“So, what are you going to do in the arena?” Expecting the proper answer which only a warrior of Sunlight could give.

“I shall vanquish all darkness from it.” A face with determination was present on her, the nervousness all gone from her being; ready to face her rival and come out victorious as it should be.

The knight smiled under his helmet at hearing the await response and seeing her like that brought pride to him. “Then you are ready to face the darkness and came out of it victorious.”

Now is the turn to Lunaire and the Warriors of Moonlight.

“You have showed of the magnificence Moon and is the time to do it once more.” Side to side Lunaire exclaimed holding both hands behind his back; then he took rest beside the mare unicorn also known as the prized student of Princess Luna.

Said pony had a faint smile at witnessing the knight’s antics,“You didn’t change bit Lunaire.” her eyes rolled in amusement.

Luniaire remained in the same position than before his chest raising for every deep breath he gave.“My faith and devotion keeps me one who I am, our Moon shall always guide us through the darkness.”

“You are such a goofy but very awesome Knight.” She commented loud enough so he could hear perfectly fine.

Lunaire turned his head connecting his gaze with hers and patted her back “I shall take it as compliment then.”

“Of course it is you silly.”

The knight tilted his head to the right only to shook it and regain the composure.“Always remember this Sunset Shimmer, no matter the outcome of this encounter because the Warriors of Moonlights will always receive you with open arms, hot cocoa and cookies.”

The prized student of Princess Luna couldn’t help but laugh.

One would be surprised that what he said is actually true. All the members are received like that when the events is finished so it wouldn’t affect them in their performance, is more like a celebration no matter if they win or lose.

And the horn of the competition made itself present.

“Is time, may the Moon guide you to the victory..”

Two doors opened.

And two contestants made their way to the arena.

Chorus of cheers fell upon them.

Both knights also stepped forward after the fighter passed through the gates however they didn’t go further, their presence in the arena was for moral support.

Both contestant arrived at the center, and stared directly to each other.

“Twilight Sparkle we face each other once again.

“Only one of us will come out victorious, Sunset Shimmer”

“One will show which star is more magnificent than the other.

Silence followed after.

Only to be replaced by a small fit of giggles.

“Is good to see you Sparkle.” Sunset said with a genuine smile on her lips, which Twilight responded in kind.

“Yeah, is good to see you too.” she had a sheepish smile on her face.

It was no secret that both prized students were friends, but somehow Lunaire and Solaire were completely unaware of such thing; like really but really unaware or better said ignorant. As if the thought never pass over their head, despite they were caught once when they were foals and both knights lectured them for hours without a hint of stopping anytime soon.

But that friendship leaves the question how is possible?

Both factions aren’t in friendly terms after all.

Well, the answer is that both of them came to the conclusion that the rivalry between the factions and Solaire with Lunaire was kind of silly, and of course the most important thing is...

Friendship is Magic.

Hopefully both knights will learn that.

“Twilight Sparkle teach that heretic the real meaning of light!” Solaire was the first to break in from afar.

Of course Lunaire didn’t stay behind.”Sunset Shimmer do not get blind by the false promises of the sun and show them the magnificence of the Moon!”

Someday they will learn for sure, but that day is not today.
