Chapter one: Waking up.
Date: June 3, 2563
Time: 6:25 AM
POV: Skyfire Jones
“Good morning sunshine” I say as I wake up, the sun hitting my face. “Today’s the day I get to go back to boot camp!” I activate the module on my desk and my combat support AI system comes to life. His name is Zeta. “Hello Skyfire,” he says. “You ready to go to boot camp?” “Yeah, I’m ready.” I say answering him. Zeta is the best AI I have ever constructed. 25 other AI’s I’ve built have lasted only for three weeks, but Zeta has lasted me six YEARS, and he is showing no signs of rampancy, which means I coded his longevity matrix just right.
I make breakfast for myself, leave some for my four brothers, and I go to the garage to get my armor, guns, ammunition, and of course my favorite sports car, a black 1971 Z-28 Camaro. This boot camp really is like a summer camp for me. I’m 27 and a Major in the UNSC, so I can come and go as I please, and I don’t have to sleep in the barracks. I get there forty minutes before everyone else, and start lifting weights. But something’s not right. The place doesn’t fill up. By the time that everyone is SUPPOSED to break for lunch, I’m the only one there and there isn’t a soul other than mine that is anywhere near the place. It’s out in the middle of nowhere. I decide to look around for some sort of notice, or a service worker, but to no avail.
I decide to explore some of the more restricted areas. I’m a rebel. I don’t believe in walls or restrictions. So I go in and no one is there either. Funny thing is, all the security cameras are down, but the lights are on. I walk down through the complex and find a steel door locked with pressure, magnetic, and sliding bolt locks. I see that there is a door control behind double Plexiglas windows. I walk around, open the door, and go through it. What I see is something utterly amazing. A real live alien ship! Zeta checks the ship for a way inside. He wants to see it just as much as I do. He scans the ship, and finds the door. I open the door and walk in, and plug Zeta into an AI port that seemed to have been shoddily installed. After I do that, Zeta’s avatar appears on top of the console.
Zeta does a quick diagnostic of the ship. It seems to be being reverse engineered, so it may not work correctly. Zeta tries to turn the ship on, but instead it fires the guns, right at chamber holding a mysterious blue-green-pink stone. I thought to myself, ‘oh shit. We done did it this time. Goodbye freedom. I’ll miss you.’ But then I saw it undamaged, but now it was glowing.
From the smooth, round facet on the stone, a beam shot out, and spread into a cone, then the cone separated from the stone and flattened out into the bottom of the cone. It didn’t take me long to realize this was a portal. “Did…we just make a portal in the middle of a classified materials bunker under a training camp?!” asked Zeta, scared. “I think we did.” I answered. “Do you want to go through it?” I ask Zeta. “Judging by the fact that we could die, no, but if we get to leave this place and get away from the war torn world that we live in now, I’d say fucking jump in!” Zeta answered. So what do we do? We go through it.
Chapter Two: Waking up… AGAIN
Date: June 5, 2563
Time: around 1:35 A.M.
POV: Skyfire Jones
‘Did we die? No how could I think of that question if we died? …Ugh fuck my head.’ I open my eyes to reveal my helmet was off my head, lying in front of my head, and I was in a forest. ‘Great.’ I thought. ‘I woke up in a forest! Now I’ll never get back to base!’ I try to stand on two legs, but found I couldn’t. “That’s weird. I thought humans were BIPEDAL!” I said as I fell on my ass a second time. That’s when I noticed it. What happened to my legs? They are bent in different shapes. My first thought was, are my legs broken? But they didn’t hurt so that was out of the question. Then I looked at my hands, or lack thereof. There were HOOVES there! HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THAT!
I look into the reflection of my ODST helmet visor. What I see shocks me even more than the lack of hands. I see a semi equine face staring back. Dumbfounded, I rack my brain for answers. A few years ago, there were these cartoons that I had come across. What were they called? My Tiny Horses? No… My Teeny Foals? No. What was it? Err. I can’t think of it! OH I know! My Little Pony! HAH! I’m in a KIDS SHOW! “Okay. I’m a pony in My Little Pony. I watched it enough to know a few things. The forest I’m in is called the Everfree, and the town close by is called Ponyville. I know the name of one character, Rainbow Dash.
Time jump: 7:00 AM
Daylight comes around, and I am finally not shocked at a modification on me. I have an army green coat with black splotches, piercing bright blue eyes, dark green and black mane and tail. I have wings and a horn. I remember something about those two features that was important, but what exactly was it? I have no mark on my flank, and my scar is still visible above my right eye. Now I can recognize myself in the mirror now that I know that. Let’s go find the town now.
I walk around in the forest for a little while, and find the path. I walk it straight out of the forest and into the sunlight. What a beautiful day. Helmet off, I drink in the sunlight, and thank God that I’m alive. I’m snapped out of my reverie when I see a lavender pony staring at me in just up the road.
Chapter three: Mysterious armored Alicorn
Date: June 5, 2563
Time: 7:02 AM
POV: Twilight Sparkle
I don’t know about you, but I would think an armored Alicorn that walks out of the Everfree Forest is something that you don’t see every day. He was acting like he had never seen sunlight before. Odd. I decided to speak to him. “Hello there? Who might you be?” I ask him. He seems a little scared and puts on his helmet thing. He didn’t seem too comfortable. Maybe he has a gizmo on that helmet thing that allows him to tell if one is friendly or not. But after the glass part on the helmet thing turns opaque, his stance becomes less tense. He approaches me, taking his helmet thing off, and says “My name is Skyfire. Captain Skyfire Jones.” I didn’t expect that. He was royalty, but he had rank as if he was a soldier. He definitely was NOT from here. I ask, “Where are you from?” He answers, “Not from here, if you believe that. I hail from Earth, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to be exact. Go Steelers!”
“The Steelers? Never mind. I have heard of Earth. That is a human planet right?” I ask. He answers “That is correct miss…” “Oh! Sorry, your highness, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Twilight Sparkle.” I say quickly. He seemed taken aback at being called Highness. Perhaps he is not royalty where he is from. “You say I am royalty? I’m not royalty. Just call me Skyfire, and leave the royalty-ness out of it.” He says, sounding annoyed. “Ok, Skyfire!” I say. “I need some grub. I haven’t eaten in about eight hours it feels like.” He says. “Oh. I didn’t know you were hungry. I’ll bring us to my favorite restaurant. You’ll love it, trust me!” I try to stay as positive as possible. He doesn’t know he’s royalty, but he will learn soon enough.
He is about the same size as Celestia, but I’m sure he’s much stronger. I noticed he doesn’t know how to use magic, because he used his hooves to remove and put on that helmet thing. “So what’s this town called again?” Skyfire asks breaking my reverie. “This town is called Ponyville. I’ve been stationed here to do research on the most powerful magic there is, the magic of Friendship.” I answer him. He seemed confused. I decided not to go into detail. Best spoon-feed him the information slowly rather than dump it on him. He put his helmet on and asked an entity he called ‘Zeta’ to make a map of the surrounding area. Then I heard a deep, masculine, but faint voice say, “Yes sir.” And after that was said, his helmet began to flash rapidly, and it sent out a small drone of some sort, no larger than a honey bee. Then he removed his helmet again.
We get to the restaurant and we sit down immediately. I guess the staff thought Skyfire was either dangerous, or saw the fact that he is royalty, and that I was with him. Call it a coincidence or what you will, but my friends happened to be there. I was planning on getting him acquainted and getting him to open up about himself before introducing him to my friends. They didn’t seem to notice anyway. We order, and get our drinks. Just before Skyfire is about to take a sip of his drink, (sigh) Pinkie pie notices him, and makes the same first impression on him as she did me, and knocks his drink away out of his hooves. And wouldn’t you know it; he gets pissed off quite quickly, as the drink had spilled on his lap.
POV Switch: Skyfire Jones
“What the fuck was that for?!” I said. Everyone turned to look. I guess this pink one was Twilight’s friend, because she immediately started scolding her friend, and using her name, Pinkie pie. What a weird name. “That’s one real great first impression you just gave there, Pinkie” Twilight said. (Sigh)
“Twilight, its fine, I just got a little pissed off, and I’m sorry. Pink one, I am sorry for swearing to your face. That’s not very good of me. Might I ask your name?” She answers, “My name’s Pinkamena Diane Pie, but you can call me Pinkie pie!” I was shocked at how fast she recovered from being embarrassed and went back to her original excitement. Lord she’s got energy.
My drone comes back and I upload the map it made into my VISR. I got the whole town, and the next town, Canterlot I believe it’s called. Then I see the rest of Twilight’s friends. We go through the introductions and I tell my story to all of them. They all seem equally astounded with all the war I’ve been through, my human and Cybertronian body, and my mysterious landfall here in Equestria as I’ve learned.
“Wow! That’s mighty interesting!” Applejack said. “I aint never heard of such bravery, but all that…killing… was there no other choice?” she asks. “Nope, I don’t feel bad for killing those bastards anyway. All I felt when reducing them to a fine red mist was the recoil of the weapons I was using. But that’s behind me. If the UNSC can somehow find this planet, and let alone somehow change this body back to human, I don’t know if I’m ever gonna leave this place. So in hindsight, I’m probably gonna get to know you girls a lot better.
Chapter four: Living assignments, and royal appointments
Date: June 5, 2563
Time: 7:35 pm
POV: Skyfire Jones
Twilight’s place was immaculately clean for what it was. It was a tree. But it was hewn out. It was some Harry Potter shit right there! She had an owl, books, books about owls, and other things, and a dragon assistant. “Twilight sent me a message. It’s good to finally meet you Skyfire. My name’s Spike.” Said the dragon. “Well met Spike. This is a really nice place you got here.” I say. “Sup, owl.” I say to the owl. Twilight trots in wielding a book in her magic aura, which she then uses to throw at me. I catch it with one hoof, not even moving my head to track the book to my hoof. A faint ‘wow’ and then I hear “That book holds all the knowledge of this land. I advise you read it. It’s probably best since you know almost nothing of this land, and how its run. It also has some interesting history in there too.” “Thanks T. I’ll read it.” I say. After reading it for well over three hours, my eyelids are starting to lose their lightness. And I fall into a deep sleep…on top of the book.
I wake up the next morning to find the place empty except for me and the owl. There is a note on the front door saying; “I’ve gone to Sugar cube corner to grab some breakfast for you. Be back in a half hour”. Should it take that long? I dunno. I’ll wait. She must’ve also taken Spike with her, too. I had a few things to ask that guy. I get bored, so I start to sing a Phil Collins song. That’s when she walks in with Spike and breakfast. I guess Pinkie wanted to apologize for being so careless yesterday, and baked me a cake, and wrote a card with the words, ‘I’m sorry for being so careless yesterday. Here is a cake, on the house!’ I said “I accept her apology.” I take a bite, “Now, anything she does to me, I will accept. This cake is…AMAZING!! HOLY SHIT That’s good!” “I take it you like it big fella!” Spike says. “Have some. Taste it yourself!”
After eating all the food Pinkie made for us, we’re stuffed. We can’t eat another bite. We clean ourselves up, and call a small meeting. Twilight’s got a few things to talk about.
“We’ve got an appointment with Princess Celestia, so we’ve gotta get the show on the road! The next train there leaves in an hour. She wants us to stay with her for a few days so she can get to know you Skyfire. I had Spike send a note. She knows you’re coming.” “Ok, T. Let’s go meet the Princess.” We get packed, and go to the station, and wait. The train comes, we get on, and we go. About an hour later, we arrive at the station. The city is packed. I have my newly created map to help me along. My armor is black with army green highlights with a black visor. Let’s just say it got some weird stares. There was this colt that looked like a total jock, so I unfurled my wings in his face to try to scare him, and make it seem like I was bigger and tougher than he was, but I got an entirely different reaction. He prostrated himself, and the rest of the ponies in the immediate area bowed down to me. I shouted “GET THE HELL UP! DO NOT FUCKING BOW TO ME! I AM NOT ROYALTY!” I tried to say it as loudly as possible. I’m just gonna have to accept the fact I’m considered royalty, though I really don’t-fucking-want to.
After about an hour of working my way through the bustling crowds, we reach the gates to the castle. The castle is magnificent, made of marble, granite, sandstone, and precious gems ranging from the size of basketballs to the size of a freaking Pave Low attack helo! And the best part, it was carved into a mountain! The skill it probably took to make that building, I was astounded, but it ain’t nothing compared to Forerunner structures! This castle is a pile of rocks compared to a 14 mile tall, FLOATING building made of metals unknown to human history, let alone science! We walk in, and the guards stop me. I say, “Hey buddy, we got an appointment with the Princess, Celestia! Out of my way, chump.” He then draws his sword, but then I plant a strong right cross on his left cheek, knocking him out. The guards recognize me, and let us through.
Chapter Five: Meeting the Princess of the Daytime
Date: June 6, 2563
Time: 8:00 AM
POV: Skyfire Jones
“So Twilight, what does she look like?” I ask Twilight. “She is a tad bit shorter than you are, she is completely white with pink green and purple mane. She also has purple eyes like I do.” Twilight answers. We reach the main throne room and there they are; The Princesses Luna and Celestia; sitting together side by side. “Might you be this Skyfire my student speaks so much about?” Celestia asks. “Yes ma’am. I am Skyfire. I take it you are Celestia, and to your right is Luna?” I ask. “You are correct. Now, I want to get to know you Skyfire. I want to know about your past. How did you come to Equestria?”
After a long winded and terribly boring conversation, Celestia says “So you were a soldier who opened a portal and decided to walk through it after your base came up empty?” “That’s what happened. Di’nt go any other way.” I said. “Twilight had told me that a large green pony came out of the Everfree. She didn’t tell me you were an ALICORN!” Celestia exclaims. I am a tad bit taken aback. I thought she wouldn’t be so worked up about it. Then again, I don’t get this world to well anyway. It’s not like they’ve got the available tech to send me back home. “Your rank; I believe that is why you are an Alicorn. Your DNA must reflect that rank…or is that even possible?” Celestia asks. “I don’t think it goes that deep. Rank is given. It is not something one is born with.” I say. I think if one is born an Alicorn, one is automatically a piece of royalty. I guess I’ll have to accept that.
“Let me show you to your room” Celestia tells me. We begin to walk past corridors and doors of all shapes and sizes. One particular door struck me as odd. It was highly ornate with gilded hinges, and metalwork covering the rosewood surface. It had a silver knob, and lock mechanism underneath. I then realized that we stopped at it. Behind this door is my room. I opened it to see a rather manly set up. My bed had an iron frame, the sheets were cobalt blue, the curtains were replaced with shutters, and I had a desk where I could write. I saw a computer on the desk. It was highly advanced. I mused at it, thinking that twilight must have gotten the blueprints from my mind when she may have read it in my sleep, and sent them to Celestia to have built. It worked, and was running Windows 7. Windows 7! That hasn’t been in production for over 500 years! But then again, I do know every single line of code in that OS. So I know it was probably taken from my mind.
An armor stand was provided, and I decided to de-armor and put my armor on the stand and lie down on my bed. It was comfortable. More comfortable than my barracks bed, that’s for sure. I get called down for dinner, the night proceeds as normal, and we all go to bed.
Chapter Six: My life is getting on…well.
Date: June 7, 2563
Time 7:00 AM
POV: Skyfire
I am still trying to wrap my head around this whole royalty thing. How could I have ended up as royalty? Are Alicorns automatically considered as such? I’m just a major in the army. I would have thought generals got this rank if they were in my place. I’ve never ruled over anything. Let alone anyone, and a mother fucking KINGDOM!!
“Is everything alright?” Luna says breaking my internal rant. I guess she drew the short straw and got to drag my ass out of bed. “Everything is fine,” I answer. We go down stairs to the grand dining room for breakfast. Lord. They can’t just have a simple meal around here can they? I’m used to C rations in the morning without a drop from my water bottle and then its hours in the hot sun inside my ODST armor. I’m usually stationed outside of one of besdilore’s many oil refineries, or on the Say My Name getting ready to be dropped into God knows where. I am not used to waking up to birds chirping, and going down to eat copious amounts of hay bacon and eggs (hay bacon; don’t get me wrong, its tasty) and limitless orange juice. Royalty confuses me more than the Forerunners themselves.
What is more, the princesses say I need a title. I am used to being called many things. Some of which I am not at liberty to say, but nonetheless, I am usually called Gunny, or Major, or Asshole, but I think Asshole isn’t exactly in the “royal” vocabulary title wise. I told them to have everyone call me “Major”, or “Sir”. But I really want people to call me by my real name, Jacques Jones. The princesses denied that the second it left my mouth. They told me “Skyfire” would work, and also “Major Skyfire”. I said to have them call me Major Skyfire. So that’s out of the way I guess.
The princesses wanted me to have an image. The armor is one, but half the demographics don’t like it. It’s scary apparently. So I decided to get a leather vest, a Stetson, and some black sun glasses. It still kept my military bad-ass-ery to a maximum, but the scary factor at zero. The vest turned attention away from my wings, so I wouldn’t be recognized as royalty as easily. Though, Rarity thought I looked horrid. She always thinks I do. Did I mention when I met them, I had a sort of strong dislike for her? No? Well I do.
I go out in my new outfit, and my new title having been announced, ponies call me by my name, and don’t notice I’m royalty as easily. I had Celestia tell her kingdom through a writ that I do not wish to be bowed to, but if I am to be acknowledged as royalty, they must salute me with their right hoof above their brow, touching or almost touching the fore head. No bowing. I hate that. It makes me feel…too important. I’m an ODST. I’m the best in the business, but I’m expendable. But I still have my rank. Therefore, I am saluted.
************
I had magic lessons today for the first time. I learnt the levitation spell in minutes, but teleportation was a DOOZY! I threw up all over the floor when we first did it. I guess folding the fabric of space-time to my will is a little bit unsettling for my system. We waited for my nausea to go down, and we perfected it using a perma-spell. We then moved to combat spells. Since I could no longer wield a rifle per se, I could now use these spells to take down enemies.
I first learned a bolt spell. It looks a lot like the Star Wars blaster rounds that the Clones fire at the droids. After learning this spell, I learn a wave spell. The wave spell is a bit like a shockwave really. Big, powerful, and deadly if I so choose. Though, I like to use the levitation spell to choke my enemies, and the beam-bolt thing to finish them off.
I learned a walk on clouds spell. Rainbow Dash and I are tight. I use the spell to visit her cloud home, and Cloudsdale. I see her perform in air shows, and I sit up in the cheap seats with the real fans with her to watch the Wonderbolts fly in their airshows. Sometimes Princess Celestia and Princess Luna come and sit with us up there! I still buy the beer though.
Sometimes, a man has got to sit back and relax from time to time; and after serving for years, I know how to do that.
Chapter 7: Air races, and magic fails.
Date: June 16, 2563
Time: Noon.
POV: Skyfire
Just got done with lunch, and guess who wants to race again? Did you think me? You’d be wrong. That would be Rainbow Dash. She can’t beat me. She said she’ll get me one of these days, but I don’t see any of those days approaching. “I got you beat this time! Just you wait and see!” she shouts in my face, spitting on my shades. I use my magic to clean them, and say, louder, “WE’LL SEE ABOUT THAT NOW WON’T WE?! LETS *Cough* *ahem* Lets get into the sky before we shout each other’s ears off.” With that we start on a cloud. Some random Pegasus with crossed eyes waved a green flag and off we went.
Rainbow gets a head of me first. It’s always the same with her. Dash off and get tired so I can pass right by. We’re both pumping at full speed, but Dashie starts to slow down. I decide to kick into overdrive and break the sound barrier. Whizzing past a frustrated dashie, I decide to just blow her away harder than I ever have. We’re good friends and all, but she hates me for beating her at her own game. As quickly as it began, race number 26 was at its end. I had won, not even winded. Dash, however, was beat. Hard. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her breathing was so hard that it would make a vacuum cleaner go to the corner in shame. She then manages to ask me, “How…*puff puff*…are you not even…winded?” “Stamina, girl, Stamina. I keep telling you not to go that hard at the beginning. That’s what kills ya. I actually have to go hard to get ya, it’s just you start slowing down early. If you fly with me at the beginning of the races, and then pull ahead, then I just might get left in the dust.” I tell her. “Makes… *puff* …sense to me. Good talk. I’ll keep that in mind. HOO! Damn I can’t feel my wings.” She says as she walks away.
I am off to some magic lessons now. This time, I’ll be taught by Celestia. I ain’t too sure about how this will work since I made a connection with Twilight. She knows how I learn, and Celestia does not. Oh this will be FUN!
I’ve learned all I needed to learn from Twilight. Combat spells, and every other spell a pony needs to know. What could Celestia possibly have to teach me now? “I must teach you how to control nature.” Celestia says. Hold on. Back the tank up. Control nature? Holy mother fucker I did NOT see that one coming!
“Nature?” I say. “Yes, Skyfire. That is actually why I asked to teach you today; So I could speak to you of a serious matter. You must be able to bend nature to your will for the imminent threat to our lands.” “Okay. Back the tank up again. You never told me of an impending attack. When were you planning on telling me this?” I say. “I needed to tell you in secret. Not even the Elements of Harmony can stop this. The enemy is immune to native magic. Your magic however, is different. It may function the same as our magic, but your magic is different. You are truly immortal against this attacker as well. Only you can stop it from taking us down.” Celestia tells me. “Why me? Is this why I have been sent into this world? To stop this impending disaster? Last I checked, I walked through a PORTAL to get here. I wasn’t even supposed to be inside that room with the experimental chambers and alien ship—“ “What you have experienced; your deserted boot camp, and unlocked doors, and even the misfired alien guns, those were laid in place by me because I saw you were the one our world needed. We must not let this attacker vanquish our kingdom. You will succeed, and you must learn to control nature so you can DO IT!” "Who is this attacker?" I ask. "The attacker is an army of timberwolves. Though they are different than normal ones. They have grown sentient, and are hell bent on destroying all we know." Celestia tells me. "I believe they will be a formidable opponent. Even though you will not die, you are the only one able to stop them. Now let’s get to your lesson. I promise I’ll make everything up to you.” She says.
