The Day that Changes Everything
It has been five years since the defeat of Tirek and everything is back to normal. It is a cool night with a carriage pulling up to the new tree-like castle on the out skirts of the small town of Ponyville. Twilight and her friends are just arriving back from Canterlot the Grand Galloping Galla.
"Finally, I can stretch my wings." Rainbow Dash said getting out of the carriage.
"I didn't think it was too bad" Fluttershy said in her usual quiet tone.
"Well, I'm just glad that we are home." Twilight said once she stepped out of the carriage. “Well, have a safe trip home girls and have a good night.”
“Good night,” all of her friends yelled as they all went their ways.
Once Twilight was inside she looked around. Inside the front corridor, witch was converted to be part library, books were everywhere, they're laid open on the tables, staked high on the floor, and even some are hanging off of the shelves." I thought I told him to clean this up." she murmured to herself. “SPIKE, were are you!?”
“Hold on Twi,” Spike called from another corridor little ways away.
“No Spike, NOW!” Twilight yelled with a bit of anger in her voice.
Spike came running around the corner. He is about as tall as princess Celestia now and he also has finally grow and gotten use to his wings now. He was wearing a green t-shirt and dark purple jeans, “Ok, ok I was a little busy.” He said.
“Why isn’t your mess cleaned up here, I thought that I told to clean it up before I got home.” Twilight ignored Spike and started to glare at him not even noticing the cuts and bruises all over his body.
“But, Twi-,” Spike started to say but was interrupted by Twilight.
“You know what, I don’t want to hear any of your wild stories for the reason you didn’t clean up this mess. Now clean this mess up and tomorrow after you get home you are grounded.”
“I’m not a baby anymore,” Spike stated.
“In pony years yes, but you are still a baby in dragon years,” she retorted. She turned and started down the corridor and up the stairs to her bedroom.
Spike grumbled to himself about how this was Twilight’s mess and not his and started to pick up the books and put them in their right place.
Neither one of them notice the red stallion that was going for a late night walk when he heard Twilight yell.
The next morning Spike was walking in the market place on his way to Sugar Cube Corner since he is not to be at Sweat Apple Acers until later to help with apple bucking. He is still feeling groggy from cleaning up Twilight’s mess last night, but he was feeling happy because today was a special to him, his birthday, and Spike was sure that Pinkie Pie had something special planed for him.
He was walking pass the only apple stand in town saying hi to Applejack’s big bother when he ran into Rainbow Dash. “Oh, hey Dash, what’s up?”
“Nuthin much, just hanging out with Soarin and Spitfire,” Dash replied while pointing a hoof at two of the Wonderbolts that just now notice that she stopped and is waiting for her.
“Hey, can I join you, I’m not supposed to be at Sweat Apple Acers till later,” Spike asked.
“Sorry Spike, but… this is Spitfire and Soarin we are talking about. They are two of the coolest ponies ever well… and… you’re kind of not cool. You understand right,” Rainbow Dash said
“Yeah, I understand,” Spike said in a sad tone.
“Great!” she said before run to meet up with the two Wounderbolts.
Spike sighed before starting for Sugar Cube Corner again.
Spike opened the door to Sugar Cube Corner and saw Pinkie working the counter. He walked up to the counter and said, “Hey Pinkie Pie, do you know what today is?”
“It’s Tuesday, duh.” Pinkie replied.
“Well, yes it is, but do you know what is special about today?” Spike asked.
“Hmm,” Pinkie put a hoof to her chin to think. “Is it the day of the Summer Sun celebration, or Hearts Warm Eve, or Winter Wrap up, oh, oh how about—“
“Wait, wait, wait, so you are telling me that you don’t know what to day is.”
“Nope.”
“Never mind, just get me a gem cupcake.” Pinkie Pie diapered behind the counter and came back a second later with his order. He paid for his order and left, too busy looking at his gemcake in sadness to notice a pony with a purple and teal mane watching him.
Spike was staring at his half eaten gemcake when he walked up to the barn. He looked at his gemcake to the barn door and back and decided to just through away his gemcake before opening the door. When Spike walked in a bucket full of water fell on his head and heard laughing. When Spike lifted the bucket off his head, he saw Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Spitfire, and Soarin laughing. “Haha, you guys goaaaAAAAAA,” Spike was walking forward when he slipped on a banana peel, only making them laugh harder and making Spike more and more angry. He got up to leave but before he could get to the door, Rainbow Dash Flew over and dumped a bag of flower on him making everypony laugh and making Spike even more angry. Spike started again and stormed out of the barn completely ignoring a red earth pony taking to a light pink unicorn.
After getting a towel from Applejack’s sister, Applebloom, and cleaned up Spike walk around town not even bothering to do any work today. Today was not going well for the drake, but not all was lost, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small box. It was sort of a birthday gift to himself, he went through so much trouble yesterday just to get it, now all he has to do is to see if he can turn this day around. With his mind set and determination in his eyes, Spike set course to the one place with a certain unicorn. He walks in to the Carousel Boutique, the bell above the door chiming.
"Coming~" says a voice from the back, the very sound of it makes Spike's bad day melt away. Out if the back comes a snow white unicorn with a perfectly curled mane that shined. She looks around the front until her eyes land on Spike, "Oh, Hello darling, how can I help you?"
"H-hey Rarity, I was walking around town when I remembered that I needed to talk to you for something." Spike said as he took a set in one the chairs nearby. He looks to see Rarity poking her head in the back room, probably checking on something, "Rarity, are you listening?"
Quickly pulling her head back, she replies, "Of course dear, I'm just dealing with some work right now.
"Oh, I can come back later when you're not so busy."
"Nonsense darling, I would never push you away like that." she says then takes a drink from a wine class she had, "Please continue."
"Ok, here it goes," Spike sighs as he looks down to the floor, "I know that we have been friends for a long time, and I want to say that I have been happy with are friendship, but I would be lying. yes I am happy to be close to you, but I want to be closer, closer that anypony else."He slowly reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small box, "So Rarity I was if..." Spike looks up and sees that he is all alone, "Rarity?" He stands up and looks around the room looking for the mare. All of a sudden there was a shrill scream coming from the back room, "Rarity!!"
Spike rushes in to the back, expecting to see the mane in trouble, instead he sees Rarity hugging and being held up by a stallion with a deep blue coat with an orange and yellow strip mane slicked back, were a expensive looking suit and holding a small box with an even more expensive looking ring. While looking at the chaos, Spike was able to make out the mare saying something over and over again, Yes.
