Muffin Mondays
Derpy Hooves woke with a start. She looked cross-eyed around the room.
"Whoa, I really want a muffin." she said with a smile.
Derpy rolled out of bed and trotted out of her room. She walked into the kitchen of her cloud-home to find her little sister, Dinky, sitting at the table eating from a bowl of oats.
"Hey there Dinky!" Derpy shouted.
"Hey there big sis," Dinky replied. "do you want a muffin?"
Derpy's eyes brightened by several shades at the mention of muffins. "DO I EVER!" She shouted. As if fate had intended it, the oven timer dinged just as she finished shouting.
Derpy and Dinky sat together at the kitchen table staring at the plate of muffins between them. Well, at least Derpy might have been staring at the plate.
"Are they cool enough to eat yet?" Derpy piped up.
"Let me check," Dinky said while reaching out to the plate, "ouch. Nope, they are still hot." she said as she burned herself on a hot muffin.
"Darn, I really want a muffin."
Derpy eyed the muffins closely. She watched as the steam rose off of the freshly baked muffins. She traced two steam trails at once while she waited. She was getting so hungry, her mouth was watering from the anticipation of the first bite into her muffin. How soft and fluffy it would be, how the warm muffin bread would grace her tongue with its sweet nuttiness and fresh blueberries.
Derpy couldn't wait any longer. she reached out with a hoof and grabbed the muffin closest to her. They had cooled a lot during the time she had been watching them, they were just at the perfect temperature for perfection. She sniffed the light, fluffy muffin that was sitting in her up-turned hoof. She marveled at how amazing it smelled. She slowly took her first bite; the best bite. It tasted just as amazing as she thought it would. She swllowed her first bite and opened her eyes to look at Dinky.
"Well, what are you waiting for? These are delicious!" Derpy said.
Derpy watched as Dinky grabbed a muffin and brought it to her mouth and took a bite. Dinky's face immediately lit up with an overwhelming level of happiness. Dinky was literally glowing with happiness, which made Derpy even happier to see her little sister gleaming like that.
"How did you sleep Dinky?" Derpy asked.
"GREAT," Dinky exclaimed, "I had a dream-"
Derpy cut her off right then pleading, "NOOO! Not before breakfast."
Dinky looked at Derpy with a grin and said, "Thats only a rule for nightmares big sis. This was a dream, and I wouldn't mind this coming true anyways."
Derpy looked at her and nodded and said, "OK, what did you dream about?"
Dinky blushed and looked away from her elder sister saying, "It was nothing, forget I mentioned it." Derpy looked confused but didn't pry.
Derpy looked at the plate. One muffin left. She looked at her younger sister and asked, "Who gets it?"
Dinky looked at the muffin and then her sister. She grabbed a knife with her magic and cut the muffin in half with one fell swoop of the knife. Dinky gave her older sister a smile as the muffin fell apart into two equal halves. "Now we can share it." Dinky said.
"Yay." Derpy cheered.
Derpy got up from the kitchen table and walked over to the foyer and began getting ready for her mail routes. Dinky walked out of the kitchen and stood on the other side of the room, watching Derpy.
"Hey big sis?" Dinky called.
"Yes?" Derpy said looking over to her.
"Can I go to work with you today?" Dinky asked with a squeak.
Derpy smiled and looked at her sister with a loving smile and said, "It would make my day." Dinky ran over and climbed into Derpy's mail satchel and stuck her head out the flap to look ahead of the pair.
Derpy looked at her sister and asked, "Seriously, what was your dream about?"
Dinky looked directly at Derpy, smiled, and said, "I dreamed that you let me go to work with you."
