The Dawn of Another Tomorrow

Clair's first dawn

For most it was just another day in the land of the sun,  but for one little filly this was a very important day. The little teal bat filly took her first steps outside of her cave, her eyes widened widened as she stepped outside. The heat of the sun on her coat, the feeling of the grass under her hooves, the sound of the birds singing,  it was all new to her. She walked around for a moment, amazed at the colors of the flowers and the sounds of nature before bumping into another pony and falling over, rubbing her head.

"Hey! watch where your going!"

"C- Clair is sorry..."

"Clair? I've never heard that name before?"

Clair finally got a good view of the pony she had bumped into, a grey unicorn colt.

"Clair has just left her cave for the first time, can she ask the stranger's name?"

"Oh, right, I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Drake. Wait, are you a bat pony?"

"Yes, Clair is a bat." She said, smiling brightly.

"What is a bat like you doing in the land of the sun?"

"Clair was born here"

"Follow me, we'll talk to Lady Lumine about it."

"Can Clair trust Drake?"

"I don't like hurting ponies, I wont hurt you"

"Then Clair will follow!" Clair replied, smiling and following Drake wile humming a happy tune to herself. The colt led her into a large city filled with ponies, Clair was mystified by the varying heights and colors of the ponies in the city. She followed Drake all the way to the castle, she got dizzy looking up at the top of the tall stone towers. She found herself sitting, just trying to comprehend how big and tall and square it all was. Drake helped her to her feet and led her inside.

Inside the castle, Clair became nearly insufferable, wanting to travel down every hallway, learn the names of every pony. Drake let out a sigh.

"Clair, we need to speak to Lady Lumine, you can talk to everypony afterwords."

"But, Clair wants to get to know everypony!" Clair pouted and Drake began dragging her behind him into the throne room. Inside of the large room was an unusually tall unicorn with a coat as black as night. She stood and gazed down at the filly. Clair looked up in awe and terror at the size and color of the mare before her. That is when the mare spook in a very serous tone.

"Drake! How dare you bring a bat before me!"

"Lady Lumine, she's just a filly, she was all on her own!"

"That doesn't matter! The children of the night are the enemy!" Clair simply watched silently as the unicorns argued, taking in every detail.

"She was born in the land of the sun! She is one of us!"

"A bat will never be one of us, take her to be executed!"

"n- no..." Drake almost whispered

"What was that?" Lady Lumine said calmly

"No!" Drake said, growling fiercely. "Mother, I will not see a lone child killed!"

"Would you rather die with her? Or do you intend to care for her yourself?"

"I... I don't know..."

It was then that Clair saw the white pegasus stallion, his cutie mark bearing wines. She slowly approached him, leaving Drake and Lady Lumine to their bickering. The pegasus panicked a little when he saw Clair, but stopped when he realized she wasn't killing him "You gave me quite a fright, what are you doing here?"

"Drake brought Clair here then started yelling at Lady Lumine"

"Oh, well, Danny's never seen a bat this close before. He thinks Clair is kinda cute." Clair giggled as Danny tussled her mane.

"Why is Danny talking like Clair?"

"Danny wants Clair to feel at home."

"Clair doesn't have a home"

"She can stay with Danny if she wants."

"Clair would love that!" Clair hugged her new caretaker. The only other bat Clair had seen was her mother, she didn't know anything about the war, or why Lady Lumine wanted her executed, or even what executed meant. This was only the beginning of Clair's story. However, a lot of nothing happened once Danny took her in.
