Understanding

"Oh my gosh it is tonight my first date with Rainbow Dash" an excited Fluttershy exclaims. It was a week after Fluttershy confessed to Rainbow Dash that she had a crush on her and wanted to try and date. At first Rainbow was shocked she never knew that her friend was a fillyfooler.

In truth so was Rainbow Dash but she kept it to herself because the pony society had a very divided veiw on that particular subject. So Rainbow kept her sexual preference to herself. So when she found out that her long time friend Fluttershy was also a fillyfooler Rainbow didn't hesitate to say "yes" when Fluttershy asked her out. For a time now Rainbow also harbored a crush on her meek and timid friend for nearly a month now after she rescued her for a manticor attack. Rainbow was running an errand for Twilight the newly appointed Alicorn princess of Equestria. Twilight had asked her to go to Zecora's hut in the Everfree forest to get some potion ingredients from her something about a new type of cloud walking potion. She didn't really listen all she did was take the list Twilight gave her a list of ingredients "Sure thing Twi I'll be back in one hour with your stuff." Twilight nodded and thanked her. So when Rainbow went into the forest she wasn't paying attention to what was in front of her while she flew she just wanted to go in to Zecora's and back out in a flash. Truth be told she hated traveling into the Everfree but her pride and loyalty to her friends made her brave that forest. Anyway she was flying and accidently flew into a sleeping manticore. She woke it up and it started to attack her. Panicked Rainbow froze in fear she didn't really want to face another one after the Nightmare moon incident. She tried to fight it by herself only to be knocked out of the air and hit the ground hard. She had the wind knocked out of her. She weakly tried to stand but it proved futile.

All Rainbow could do was close her eyes and wait for the killing blow it never came. I looked up to see Fluttershy fly up to the manticor and speak quite sternly " Now, Mr. Manticore I know you are grumpy that Rainbow woke you up from your nap. But doesn't give you the right to go and kill her. Now you go and apologize for hurting her and find somewhere else to sleep." the manticore was humbled by that stare of hers. Rainbow was glad she never was on the recieving  end of one of her "STARES" and rainbow wanted to keep it that way.

The manticore walked up to me and gave me a tongue kiss on the side of my cheek and purred apologetically. Rainbow shakily says "N-no problem big guy I am sorry too. I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going." I then nervously pet the monster's mane it rolled it's eyes in contentment. It the got up and left. Fluttershy walked up to Rainbow and proceeded to check her wings and body for any broken bones. Rainbow laughed sheepishly "Uh thanks Flutters. You mind keeping this to yourself. I do have a rep to protect." Fluttershy giggled but promised to keep it to herself. With that she accompanied her to Zecora's hut. They got the stuff on Twilight's list and they left. They exited the forest 20 minutes later and they said their goodbyes. After Rainbow and Fluttershy parted ways and Rainbow began to fly back to the treehouse. Her thoughts distracted by Fluttershy. "I really feel happy she came to my rescue. She even helped me out and promised to keep my secret." Rainbow's heart started to flutter. Fluttershy had saved her. Fluttershy HAD saved her. Rainbow smiled goofily. That started a month long crush on Fluttershy. Rainbow wanted to ask her out and had several opportunites to do so. But every time an opportunity came up Rainbow chickened out. The reason was simple "What if Fluttershy isn't into mares. If she wasn't she would decline and then avoid me. I don't take rejection well."

So it was a surprise when Fluttershy asked her over to give her a hand with her animals a month later. Now that in itself wasn't unusual. Rainbow had at several times helped her with her animals. It was the way she blushed when she asked her. This made Rainbow's heart jump. "Maybe she really is into mares. Naw, She always talked about wanting to have foals some day. And I am not equipped to give her what she dearly wanted." She hung her head in defeat "If only I could grant Fluttershy her most precious dream" Okay now she was making herself feel depressed. Head still hung long Rainbow made her way to fluttershy's cottage. Rainbow arrived at Fluttershy's home within an hour by hoof. That's right Rainbow made herself that depressed that she decided to walk to Fluttershy's home. She Knocked and spoke up "Hey Flutters I'm here to help you."

After a few seconds I heard her soft and sweet voice answer "Be right there Dashie. Just need to finish feeding Angel bunny." Rainbow nodded and waited. After about one minute Fluttershy opened her door and beckoned Rainbow into her abode "Come in Dashie you want some tea and biscuits ready." Rainbow entered and nodded.

"Sure thing Flutters. I am a bit thirsty." Rainbow gave a strained smile. Thank Celestia she didn't notice or so Rainbow thought. After Fluttershy went into the kitchen to get the tea and biscuits Rainbow sat down on the chair across from Fluttershy's couch. Fluttershy returns after a few minutes with their beverages. Rainbow takes one cup of the tea that Fluttershy offered and a biscuit in one of each of her forehoofs and then proceeds to take a sip of her tea and then takes a bite out of the biscuit. After a few seconds Rainbow asks "So Flutters what do you need my help with. Feeding, helping you give those wolf pups you found wondering around your cottage a couple days ago, What do you need me to do." Rainbow gives Fluttershy a cocky smile.

Fluttershy blushes then shifts uncomfortably on her couch. Rainbow raises her eyebrow in confusion why was she acting like this. Finally spoke up in a quiet almost inaudiable voice. "I don't need your help Dashie I actually asked you here for another reason." Rainbow looks at Fluttershy questionable. Something was deffinately up. Fluttershy continues "I really wanted you to come here so I can ask you a question."

Rainbow raises her eyebrow again "Sure thing Flutters what do you want to ask me?"

Fluttershy spoke up in a more confident voice "Um.. I was wondering.. if is all right with you... I was wondering if you wanted to go out on a date with me for dinner on Friday night?" She then "eeped" and then began to stutter " O-oh n-never m-mind. F-forget I asked" With that Fluttershy practically tried to bolt up to her bedroom to hide her shame but Rainbow was quicker and cut off her exit and kissed Fluttershy. She "eeped" again.

After they broke the kiss of thanks Rainbow spoke up " Are you kidding, I have been trying to ask you out for a month. But everytime an opportunity presented itself I chickened out. I thought you weren't into mares like I was. Especially since you talk alot about having your own foals someday. So I assumed you were into Stallions. After all how can I give you a foal. But YES Fluttershy I would love to go out on a dinner date with you."

Fluttershy smiled and quietly "yay-ed" and then kissed Rainbow again. After they broke from the second kiss Fluttershy spoke again "True Rainbow I do want to have my own foals someday. But don't worry I talked to Twilight about magical impregnation. She said she had some spells that can help me. You see Rainbow I realized about a week ago that I really loved you but I was scared to act on it." Rainbow stared at Fluttershy in surprise. She had told Twilight that she was into mares. Heck even Rainbow hadn't told her friends about her sexual preference thinking they would disgusted by it.

Rainbow asked in a strangled whisper "You told Twilight that you were a fillyfooler and she was okay with that. Who else have you told. I haven't told anyone but you just no?!!"

Fluttershy actually laughed "Yes Rainbow I told Twilight. As for how many ponies I told only our four friends and you and the Princesses. You see I was worried something was wrong with me. So I sent a letter to both Celestia and Luna. They said that I was fine I was healthy. It was just that I loved mares more than Stallions and that it is okay. After I told the Princesses I told all our friends and I found out they knew I was into mares and they were okay with it. In fact they encouraged me to ask you out. You see they knew for a while that you too were into mares. They said you tried to hide it but they all saw how you flirted with Spitfire when she was here for that vacation she took here to get away from Canterlot for a week. But since you didn't want to talk about we pretended to be ignorant of your sexual preference. We figured you tell us when you felt comfortable with it. That was when I started to have feelings for you."

Rainbow Dash stared at Fluttershy in awe and spoke quietly " So you all knew I was into mares but pretended not to notice. I feel guilty for not trusting my friends of all ponies with my sexual preference. Can you guys ever forgive me?" Rainbow started to shutter as the realization set in that she couldn't even trust her friends with her desire to be with mares. Fluttershy walked up to her and gave Rainbow and comforting hug.

Fluttershy then spoke "It's okay Dashie we aren't mad at you. In fact we aren't angry or annoyed in the slightest. We knew you would tell us when you felt ready to. I, for one am glad you are into mares. It makes me feel better about myself. So Friday at 6pm then?" Rainbow nodded and grinned. they kissed again this time in good-bye. Rainbow left Fluttershy's home an hour later and promise to meet up for their first date in one week. As Rainbow flew home She was smiling. She had a date with Fluttershy in a week. She could hardly wait as she thought "I wonder if Twilight can actually impregnate Fluttershy or if I choose myself magically. Whoa Rainbow this a FIRST date. let's not worry about foals now. Let's just see how this date plays out first okay" She scolds herself firmly.
