Warmth: A Prologue

Hello Dear Reader of this Journal, for I deemed the word diary or recording to not match the meaning of my hardships and plights. Along with my dear friends and newfound family, I have helped my land and my ponies through the darkness that has veiled it since the beginning. For tomorrow I meet my fate. But now I shall regail my adventures on this flimsy pathetic excuse of material. I am called Hearth Soul Fire, and to know me and my will be future, you must know how I came to be who I am now... For with the help of my friends, I have stood out and stopped the destruction of Equestria once.

But I have been urged to write down my thoughts and feelings about it so the next generation of ponies can learn from me. I see no reason why I'm a shining example of a so called 'hero' but this term is obviously defined by the society that the pony lives in.

So I will start from the beginning, the very beginning of it all for me. Of how I grew up, of how I came to be a 'hero'. Maybe after you are through you will realize that sometimes you don't want to be the hero. You want to hide in a cave and put your hooves over your ears and ignore it all, for I wanted to do that at every turn. But have Heart, for you are stronger than you think. I will narrate to you, but I cannot convince you to continue on to fight and become the hero of legend that will be praised, for that much is up to you.

I had no idea about the factors of my life back then, but I know that it all started on a sunny Tuesday in Maneida, the place I grew up in. The place where the orphanage taught me how to deal with rejection and disgust from those who had more than me. It was the place where I had no biological mother, father, brother, sister, or at least none that I knew. But now that I know all these, I think it was best that this environment took its toll on me. For I would not be the same pony, the same 'hero' if I had been with my own blood.

So as I said before, I shall start from the beginning.

In the crib I was placed in the night after I was born, Mother Soft Eyes glanced at me in the crib, and then out the open window that she was certain had been closed the night before and knew that there was one more addition to the orphanage, a pony who's bright cherry eyes matched his coat along with a blazing orange mane that gave the illusion of there being an outline of flame that coated a strip on his head.

She had come in from the sounds of a baby crying early in the Morning, and looking down at the tiny Colt crying in the crib below her, Mother Soft Eyes shivered as her spine tickled from a force she couldn't comprehend. Picking the young Colt up, she rocked him back and forth until his cries subsided below her calming whispers of pleasantries. Peering into the young Colt's eyes, she saw a fiery tornado of determination and courage. Although it flickered for only a second before disappearing into his sleepy drooping eyelids, Mother Soft Eyes knew that this one would be different from all the others she had nurtured and played the role of a Mother for. This Colt would do something with his life, something amazing.

Gazing down at the tiny little fiery baby in her hooves, she knew what his name would be already. "Hearth Soul Fire," She whispered as the Colt took tiny little content breaths as it slept.

Gently placing him back in the crib that had been empty the night before, she trotted out the door to fill out papers for a new addition to the orphanage of Maneida.
