Interview with Celestia and Discord
Discord was a huge part of the keepers legend but not exactly in a good way. I have studied the keepers for years but I have always wanted to know the mystery behind that creature of chaos named Discord. When I interviewed Celestia and Luna I was given the chance to learn about him and all his mystery. I asked Celestia if she could tell me about Discord and his past, she hesitated for a while and then told me that it was a sad story and asked me if I was sure that I wanted to hear it, I replied yes.
Celestia told me all about Discord, and I learned a lot of things about him that has changed the way I see Discord forever. I guess I shall start with the beginning.
Celestia started with his family.
"Discord wasn't born the creature he is now. He was a regular pony with a regular family and a regular life. His name wasn't even Discord back then. Discord was a very close friend to the royal family, he was like an uncle to Luna and I. Every time we saw him he would give us hugs and candy and told us stories and legends. We adored him. One day, we saw him shouting at our father. We couldn't understand what he was saying but he was crying so we knew it wasn't good. I ran up to him on his way out and I asked him what was wrong, his eyes were saggy and yellow as if he hadn't slept in days. He didn't even look at me, he didn't twitch or speak or blink, he just kept on walking. I didn't understand. The week after that he didn't come at all, we didn't see him. It was like he completely disappeared until one day he came over but he wasn't the same. His face started turning a gray color, his body seemed longer, his eyes were red, I was scared. I went up to him again but this time instead of ignoring me he snapped at me in rage. I was very young so I started to cry but he only just kept walking. the next time I saw him he wasn't even a pony anymore, he was discord. The last time I saw him was about five years later when he overthrew the empire and took control. The ponies of Eqeustria lived in years of chaos and disharmony. On the darkest day, the keepers were revealed and Discord was locked away in stone for thousands of years, until he escaped." after she had finished speaking she bowed her head so I couldn't see but I could hear her soft and quiet sobs. I was shocked! never in my life had I ever imagined the princess weeping in front of me.
That was all Celestia could tell me but I wanted to know more. Instead of researching the topic I decided to test my luck and go straight to the source, Discord. I went straight to the cottage that he lived in with his wife, Fluttershy who is seven months pregnant. I knocked on the door and Fluttershys sweet face greeted me.
"hello there. Is Discord here?" I said with a smile.
"Oh, yes come in. I'll go get him." she waddled away and left the door open for me to come in.
I stepped in, closing the door behind me, and waited until Discord came to talk to me. Discord walked into the room and immediately asked
"is there something I can help you with?"
"I don't mean to disturb you at home, my name is Sand Digger, you can call me sandy if you like. I am an archaeologist and historian, I study the legends of the keepers" Discord froze at the sound of those last seven words.
"I have not heard those words in thousands of years. If you are only here to remind me of my mistakes then I'm sorry but you will have to leave."
I was not there to upset him I only wanted information. "I apologize if I am intruding but I was hoping that you could tell me about your past. You see, I am writing a journal on all my findings and information on the keepers. I know that you are not a keeper and that you would like to forget those painful memories but they could be the key to finding the keepers"
Discord didn't let me continue but instead interrupted "your trying to find the keepers?"
"please I have always wanted to know the mysteries behind your life and if I do find them it could be your chance of full forgiveness. Don't you wish you could go back and change what you did? to forgive and forget? but I completely understand if you don't want to unlock those memories and if you wish for me to leave you alone forever then that is exactly what I will do."
Discord stood there, in front of me, with a thinking expression until Fluttershy came in and interrupted the silence.
"Dear? what is going on? who is this?" her voice was so soft I would have thought it was the voice of an angel.
"This is a historian who would like to talk to me about my past."
"oh... Are you sure you want to honey? I know how you feel about talking about those times."
Discord still stood silently in the middle of the room thinking "I'll do it."
"Are you sure honey?"
"Yes"
I thanked him and we both sat down to talk, Fluttershy felt her bulging tummy and left to go lie down. Discord started, "where should I start?"
"how about with your family"
he sighed "well, I was an only child. My mother and father died when I was a young adult. I was the captain of the royal guard and was very close friends to the royal family including Celestia and Luna. They were like a second family to me and I loved them. The princesses were very young way back then, just children, its so hard to believe how grown up they are now..... all that time. They weren't my only loved ones though. I had a wife, Cinnamon Crimson, she was so beautiful. She was a lovely peach orange pegasus with dark, crimson red hair. She lost one of her front legs in a flying accident but she was still the most amazing mare. Cinnamon was my angel and I did love her." Discord started to sniffle "one day, at work, the king promoted me to guard a strange looking artifact. All he told was that a threat was made against the kingdom and that the artifact had to be guarded at all cost. He also told me that what ever I do I can not touch it. He wouldn't tell me anything else about it. I stood their for hours doing absolutely nothing but staring at this pyramid shaped thing that had circles on the outside almost like some sort of writing. Eventually, after hours and hours of watching it, I couldn't help my self, I had to know what it was, what it felt like, what it is for. At that point I had forgotten all about the kings warning and it was the biggest mistake of my life." His eyes started to water but he held back the tears "I leaned in and touched it and my hand stuck to it immediately as if it were a magnet. In less then five seconds my hand was released as if the artifact didn't want it anymore. I stood there and blinked, I had seen a vision of a world in complete chaos and ruin. That day I went home to my lovely pregnant wife but when I got there she was nowhere to be seen. I searched the house for her, I went into the street and called her name but there was no reply. Instantly I ran back to the castle and demanded to the king that he told me what that pyramid was for and he told me, he told me that it was a prison. I didn't understand, how could anything fit in that tiny box? he said it was a magic prison for the worst enemies that they have ever faced. It was for the enemies that could not be reasoned with, for the enemies that were from other lands that they had never heard of. I asked him how it worked and he told me that it takes it from your mind. He said that you think of the thing that you want to put in it and then you touch it and it imprisons it in a different dimension that is inside the box. When I realized what had happened I stood there in horror with tears running down my face, I had imprisoned my wife in hell. When I explained to the king what had happened he looked at me in shock and reminded me of his warning not to touch the artifact. Over the next year after that I searched for a way to get her back I searched and searched until I found the journal of a pony who studied the artifact in the early ages when it was found. it spoke of another half, a half that allows you to go into the dimension and fetch out the creature you wished to get. It took me months to find the other half but when I did I used it as soon as possible. It worked the same way the other did, you use you mind to enter the dimension in the box but when I went into the dimension instead of bringing it to my wife so I could get her back it brought me to the grave of my wife. She had died in that dimension, alone, scared, and unhappy. Laying beside her was a small pony, a child, it was curled up in her arms and I realized it was my son. He was light green with a dark brown mane. I was horrified, my family, everything I loved, it was all gone. It looked as though had just recently died but I later found out that the prison preserves whatever you put in it, they could die but they don't age or wrinkle so they both could have died there months before but I couldn't tell. When I was released from the dimension I had more visions and headaches. As the weeks went by and my depression got worse something changed in me, something snapped. I started to go crazy, visions and chaotic dreams occurred, my mind only longed for chaos and destruction. When it started to get really bad even my body started to change, I grew wings and antlers, my body stretched and bent, my legs transformed, my tail grew longer. I became a monster, I became Discord." Discord looked at his paw and his claw and then at the mirror on the wall as though he had forgotten what he looked like "for thousands and thousands of years I wreaked havoc on Equestria. Until I met Fluttershy."
"Could you tell me how you fell in love with her?" I said.
"The first time I broke free from my stone prison I was still crazy my mind longed only for chaos, and I believe you know that story."
"Yes, I do" I replied.
"they locked me away again but something seemed to settle within me, as if chaos did not seem as wonderful. The second time I was free it was their doing, they believed I could be reformed. My craving for destruction still remained but when Fluttershy showed me her kindness and friendship it somehow changed me and I tried to follow in her ways of love and kindness but the creature inside me fought back," Fluttershy came into the room and sat down. She rubbed her tummy and then looked up to listen. "but I fought harder. When I won the battle within me it wasn't just friendship that blossomed it was also love. I knew that I had to win her over but I never thought that she would actually love me back. We were friends for the longest time and for the longest time I longed for the day she would say that she loved me back."
Fluttershy added her part to the story "it didn't happen instantly though, my feelings for him began to grow when I started to notice all the romantic thing he did for me. Whenever he came over for tea he would bring me flowers, every time he saw me he would tell me that I looked lovely. It was all those small things that I noticed and then I started to have feelings for him too. One day he asked me if I loved him and I asked what made him ask that and he said that it was because he loved me. Of course I immediately told him that I did love him back. He wasn't the same creature that he was before, he was sweet and kind and romantic."
I had to ask "how did the other girls take the news"
"Honestly, not to well. They kept telling me that there was no way that I could ever truly love him they said that it was a trick, that it wasn't true some of them questioned my health and others asked me how I could ever love such a monster. I told them that I loved Discord with all my heart and that nothing they said would change that. That tore us apart, I ran back to Discord with tears. He sat down next to me as I told him what happened, I could tell that he was hurt. When I saw the look on his face I stared at him with complete love. When he noticed my loving gaze he stared back and I leaned in and kissed him and told him that I would love him now and forever and beyond. I knew we would be together forever. The other girls soon realized that my love was more important than their grudges so they came and visited me in my home. I forgave them all and they forgave Discord. We had lunch and talked."
I turned and looked at Discord who was staring lovingly at Fluttershy. "Discord, do you ever wish you could be a pony again?"
"No."
"Really?!" I said it with more surprise than was needed but I could tell he didn't mind.
"For the longest time I did but then I realized that if I became a Pony again I would be the person I was all those years ago and I don't want to see that pony again. I don't want to be the pony that I once was because I am not I have changed so much and have been through so much that if I became a pony again it would be a lie because I'm not a pony anymore, I'm Discord."
I paused and looked at both of them in envy.
"What about Celestia and Luna? What is your relationship with them now?"
"Sandy, I wish it was well but its not and its all because of something I did. I did a lot of terrible things in my life but what I did to Celestia and Luna I will never forget. It was long ago when I was at the climax of being the chaotic lord of evil. I had successfully taken over the kingdom and had turned it into the most chaotic place in the world but not without a horrible price." Discord looked at Fluttershy with a shameful look "I killed them. I killed the king and queen so that I could live in a world of ruin and disharmony. I killed Celestias parents." Discords eyes were filled with tears but only one rolled down the side of his face. I could tell he was trying so hard to hold back the loud sobbing. I sat there in astonishment as he continued "Celestia was there. She watched me murder her parents right in front of her young eyes. I was like an uncle to them but now I am only a monster." My eyes began to tear up and then the tears just started running down my face like a waterfall. I didn't make a noise but I couldn't control myself. The tears just kept coming. "Celestia was only a filly, she ran away from me in terror. I'll never forget the look on her face. It haunts me every moment, not a day goes by that I don't regret all the things that I've done."
"Discord," I still had tears streaming down my face. I wiped them away and continued. "I think we are done here." I could read the expression on his face, it said "shame and regret" but it also said "I'm different now, I'm not the same." As if he could read my mind he turned his head to hide the tears flowing down his face.
