Walking beside his two dragon friends, Spike headed to the edge of the cliff. "Are you sure that you want to leave?" The female dragon asked Spike. Her scales were white and her belly scales, spines, and fins were light blue along with her ice blue eyes. Her wings were folded neatly to her sides as she walked beside Spike, who was stretching his own wings. "I'm sure bout it, Rosetta. Besides, it'll only be for a little while. I already sent the letter to Twi so she knows that I'll be there and the longest time length that I'll be there is only a week..." Spike said as he stretched his body. "You sure, big guy? It's been sixteen years and then you finally decide to return for a visit to them. Do you really expect them to be the same as you left them?" The male dragon asked as they stopped at the edge of the cliff. The male dragon had blue scales and yellow belly scales, spines, and fins along with his bright yellow eyes. His wings were outstretched as he walked beside his friends.
"I'm sure they changed, Zacrum! But you know how much I missed them and Salru said it's best if I see them again or I'll never be able focus!" Spike said to him as he stood up on his two back feet. "Yeah, but didn't you runaway because of them?" Rosetta asked as Spike nodded. "I ran off because I got mad, Rosetta. It wasn't their fault and I wanna make it up for them! Trust me, I'll be fine!" Spike said as he looked at his friends. "Well, good luck, Spike!" Zacrum said as he gave a friendly noogie to him. "You better come home within a week or at least send letters to us." Rosetta said as she hugged Spike. Once their goodbyes were switched Spike jumped off the cliff and took a nosedive down the cliff as he closed his eyes. 'One...' Spike thought as he got closer and closer to the ground. 'Two...' Spike thought again as he began to open his wings. 'THREE!' Spike thought as he opened his eyes to see the ground probably ten feet away from him.
Spike opened his wings and pulled up from the nosedive at the last second, his claws nearly skidding on the dirt floor, and did a roll to avoid the tree in front of him. Quickly flapping his wings and rolling to avoid the trees, Spike flew above the trees as the wind blowed in his face. 'I'm finally heading home....' Spike thought as he saw a crystal blue lake come up and he flew near it. Placing his claw through the lake, Spike made a rip in the water as he flew. Once he was at the middle, he did a roll and flew into the water before jumping out of it with more speed as he resumed his path out of the Dragon Territory.
~Hours Later At SugarCube Corner, Ponyville~
Twilight helped Rainbow Dash bring the banner up within the sweet shop. "A little more to the left!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed as she guided them to the perfect spot for the banner. Twilight and Rainbow Dash flew to the left about an inch as Rarity helped Fluttershy bring the last of the cupcakes out of the kitchen. "Perfect!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed as Apple Jack finished placing all the balloons up. Twilight used her magic to nail the banner to the roof as Rainbow Dash read it out loud. "'Welcome Back Home, Spike!'..... Couldn't we had come up with something better?" Rainbow Dash complained as she and Twilight landed. "If ah don't remember, weren't ya the one who came up with the banner, Rainbow?" Apple Jack asked Rainbow Dash, who shrugged in response.
"Girls, does it matter if the banner is original? All that matters right now is that we will finally be able to see Spike again..." Twilight said as Rarity stood beside her. "Twilight has a point, I'm sure Spike won't care about the banner at all..." Rarity said as Fluttershy looked outside the window. "Girls..." Fluttershy said softly, but loud enough to get everypony's attention. "Yes, Fluttershy?" Twilight asked as Fluttershy walked over to them. "Spike is coming..." Fluttershy said as Pinkie gasped. "EVERYPONY HIDE!!!" Pinkie exclaimed as they all ran into their hiding spots within the cake shop and turned the lights off.
Trotting towards SugarCube Corner, Spike hummed softly one of his favorite songs, Quest (This Can't Be All (by Black Gryph0n & Baasik)). Looking at the sweet shop and seeing it's lights off, Spike made two inferences. 'They are either trying to surprise me or they aren't there... Well, maybe I'll give them my own little surprise...' Spike thought to himself as he snickered. "Oh, this is gonna be fun..." Spike said as he opened the door before using a quick spell with his Dragon Magic to turn himself invisible.
As soon as the door opened, the lights came back on and everypony jumped out of their hiding spots, screaming "SUPRISE!" in unison, but to their avail, Spike wasn't there. "Where is he?" Rainbow Dash asked as Pinkie shrugged. Just as Rainbow Dash had asked her question, Spike reappeared behind her and let out his loudest dragon roar ever.
"ROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!" Spike roared behind Rainbow Dash, making her jump to the roof and hold onto one of the support beams for dear life. The others looked shocked as Spike fell backwards, laughing his head off. "Oh sweet Celestia, that was hilarious! You should of seen your faces!" Spike exclaimed as he laughed. "Heh... Very funny, Spike..." Rainbow said as she letted go of the beam and landed back onto the ground. Gasping for air and still laughing softly, Spike got up and looked at all of his friends. "Nice try surprising me, but when your in the Dragon Territory, you gotta be ready for anything and be good with improvising..." Spike said with a cocky smirk, his signature.
"So, you were in the Dragon Territory for sixteen years?!" Rarity asked as Spike shook his head. "No, only fourteen. The first two years I was with two other dragons who were searching for the Dragonese Temple." Spike said as they all looked at him with curiosity in their eyes. "One question though. If this is a party, then why are we just standing around? Shouldn't we be partying?!" Spike exclaimed as Pinkie smiled and ran over to the beat box before putting on some music. "LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!" Pinkie exclaimed as Spike rolled his eyes and shook his head. After stealing a quick glance at Twilight, Spike walked over to the table with the treats and ate a cupcake. 'I knew it was a great idea to come back home....' Spike thought to himself as he watched Twilight trot over to him and the others starting to dance to the music. As soon as he and Twilight made eye contact, they both blushed a deep shade of red before looking away from each other. 'And now this is where things get awkward....' Spike thought as he looked back at Twilight.
