Applejack Takes a Nice sroll through one of her apple tree fields in the middle of the night and his suddenly mare-napped and is brought to a old basement wist unconscious and then strapped to a cold stone wall in very dim light room. A grey colt with a Light blond mane comes in to her sight from darkness and Applejack is forced to pay for her long past failed poker matches in other ways than money.
This takes place one year before Applejack meets the mane 6 and this is one reason why applejack became honest in my own words
