Nightmare Moon, the tyrant of the night, has escaped from her lunar banishment thirty years too early. Without the Elements of Harmony to stop her, she starts to take control of Equestria with an iron hoof. Now, she wishes to see a new form of entertainment for all ponies to suffer through just for entertainment.

Each year, two ponies between the ages of ten and sixteen from each of the twelve districts must be chosen to participate in the annual Equestrian Hunger Games on live television, and everypony must watch them.

This is a story of Amethyst "Sparkler" Star, who takes her sister Dinky's place in the Games. In this thrilling beginning to a multi-arc story, Sparkler must first overcome her own rowdy and rough attitude, all the while trying to prepare for the upcoming games she will soon have to face through. Will she gain the attention of everypony to increase her survival rate, or will she end up dead?
