Celestia cried out in pain as she went into labor with her twin foals. Her husband, Fire Streak, a bookworm red earth pony with blazing orange eyes and a kind deep blue mane stood over her whispering and telling her to push.
Soon enough, a young alicorn was born with a red coat and a deep blue mane but had her mother's kind purple eyes and her horn was tipped in white, same with her ears. About half a hour later, the second foal was born.
A young alicorn filly with a white coat that was tipped in red on her wings, ears and her horn and she also had red socks on her hooves. Her mane was a flowing pink and when her eyes open, they revealed a blazing orange.
''What's their names gonna be, Tia?'' asked her sister.
''Well, the older one. The heir will be named Sunlight and our little one will be named Shining Sun.''
''Their cute names!'' butted in a young 3 year old filly who happened to appear in the room carrying a young colt on her back.
The filly was a black coated unicorn who a long starry blue mane. Her eyes were sliver and she already had her cutie mark at the age of 3?! It was a bright moon but it was half covered by the sun and a cloud.
The colt was a dark blue coated pegasus with a red mane and a beautiful pair of turqouise eyes. These were Luna's and her husband, Night Flare's filly and baby colt.
The filly's name was Eclipse aka her cutie mark which showed her talent for making eclipses happen when they should. The colt was called Lunar Flare after his father. Despite neither of them being a alicorn, Eclipse was the heir and when she was older, would earn her wings.
''Can I meet my cousins!?''
''Mama?'' mumbled Lunar as he barely talked.
''Sure but be quieter, Eclipse. There babies.''
''Like Lunar?''
''Wike woonar?'' repeated her brother.
''Yes, like Lunar.''
Luna picked up her son from her daughter's back and walked over to her sister and showed the twin fillies to the young colt who smiled.
''Woow! I wuv my wousins.''
''Can you pronounce their names. Sunlight and Shining Sun?''
''Wun Wight? Whining Wun?''
''Good.''
That night, a mare, somehow, got past the castle guards in a black cape which blended into the shadows. She walked up to a door which had been painted gold and was pictured with two baby foals that were identical to the young sun princesses. She grinned and gently pushed open the door.
No sound came from the door and she slowly sneaked in and walked over to the crib where the newborns were sleeping. Her hooves reached down and picked up Shining. The foals bright orange eyes open and she wailed, loud enough to make the mare panic and the yells of guards to be heard.
The mare looked at the other sleeping filly and gritted her teeth before running to the balcony window and jumping out just as the guards burst in the room and looked at the crib where formerly two foals were but now only one was there now.
The mare carried the young princess all the way to the Everfree forest which she was lucky to get to by dawn. She knew that the guards wouldn't search for her there even when there was a zebra leaving among these trees. She walked silently keeping the crying foal under her black cape will she saw a little cottage just on the other side of the massive forest.
A young filly bolted down the staircase of the cottage yelling. She had a pure white coat with her wings, ears and horn tipped in red and had red socks on her hooves. She was also a alicorn and a blank flank. She bolted into a room where a green earth pony mare was sleeping.
''Mother! Mother!''
''Shut up, Shimmer!''
The mare woke up, her green coat darkening gently as she looked at her daughter. Her red mane and sliver eyes gleamed. She half glared at Shimmer who was bouncing up and down.
''What?''
''It's my birthday!!''
''No it's not, your birthday was last year.''
''I guess birthdays are a annual thing? Mother, I'm turning 3 so can I please go outside?''
''You know the rules. You could be harshly punished if you step out of this door.''
''I know, mother....''
''You know I love you very much and don't want you hurt so stay inside.''
''Okay...Mother...''
Lime Light, her mother stood up and walked to the door, turning around once to look at her daughter.
''I'm going to the market to gets some hazels, I'm gonna make hazel nut soup.''
Shimmer nodded and with a frown, walked out of the room and down the hallway till she made it to the cottage's large library which had her bedroom as one of the top parts. She strained her wings to carry herself up so she could look at the higher shelves. Her wings gave out and she landed hard on the ground.
''Ow....Guess I gotta do it the old fashioned way.''
And what she meant by that was a moving ladder that could be moved by somepony pushing it on the ground or the wing power of the pegasus or in Shimmer's cause, a alicorn. She climbed out the ladder and began searching the books with her magic and flapped her wings, making the ladder move.
She came across a book named Princesses of Equestria. She picked it up in her magical energy and carried it down. She sat on the large rug in the middle of the room and began reading the book.
Long ago,in the magical land of equestria, shortly after the defeat of the chaos god Discord and his daughter, Screwball, lived two regal alicorn sisters. The younger, Princess Luna, used her magic to raise the moon at dusk and the older, Princess Celestia used her magic to raise the sun in the dawn.

9 months later, their daughters, Shining Sun and Sunlight. Sunlight was the heir with a red coat that was tipped white in places and she had a flowing deep blue mane but with purple eyes. Shining Sun was a white coated alicorn with tips of red in areas and had a flowing mane of bright pink and blazing orange eyes. Shining was kidnapped on the night of the twins birth and to this day, nopony knows where she is.
Shimmer stopped reading and picked up the book and ran to her arriving mother.
''Mother! Mother!''
''Yes, dear?''
''A-am I the princess, Shining Sun!?''
''No, no your not!'' yelled Lime Light, hitting the young filly in the face.
''M-mother?'' mumbled Shimmer, lifting her hoof to her cheek which was now as red as the red tipped ears.
''Never say your her again! Your my daughter Shimmer, if you don't do what I say then it will only hurt more.''
Her voice sounded like a death threat as she slammed the door behind her, leaving Shimmer alone. Tears began to pour out of Shimmer's eyes and she wailed, not from the physical pain but from emotional pain.
