Equestria: Guardian Knights
Part I: A Lame Birth
Chapter One: He Won't Last Long
Three hundred days sounds like such a long time. When you first discover that you’re mare is pregnant.. You’re sure you’ll have time to read all the books and hear the foaling experiences from other happy couples and have the doctor answer all your questions.
It still seemed like you had plenty of time when she received her rhinopneumonitis vaccine in her fifth month and the doctor started discussing how to improve her nutrition during the last two trimesters.
Then the time passes far too quickly, and suddenly the seventh and ninth month of vaccinations have passed. Perhaps you weren't quite finished with the foaling stall, but at least you still had plenty of time to read all that information about foaling and predicting labor.
But now that spring is here, those three hundred days seem to have flown by. Most couples expecting their first foal tend to get a little nervous as the big event nears. But a second foal, the nerves still remain. This is normal, and it’s probably close to how your mate feels, too…
She is in the hospital room, and the doctors made the stallion leave.. the foaling process was not going to well.. It took a turn for the worse.
She was in pain! She felt as if she was being stabbed over and over again! That’s when she knew something was wrong. Her first foaling was not as nearly as painful! That and the doctors took her mate away!
Her body began pushing. The abdominal pushiness or heaving that she felt was just like throwing up, only it was in a downward direction. The pressure was intense, not very mild at all like her first. She felt intense rectal pressure as the baby moved down, like her butt was going to split in two. She really didn't like this sensation. After hours of agonizing torture, finally, the rectal pressure subsided as the baby began crowning. In its place I felt intense stretching and stinging as the baby's head emerged more and more.
It was finally easy… Too easy.. She felt dizzy, the fast moving doctors did not help at all.. Her umbilical cord snapped prematurely. This resulted in bleeding from both mother and child that the doctors sprung quickly to control. The doctors utilized clamps, sutures and sterilized fishing line to tie the ends and stop the bleeding.
The baby, dangerously close to death weighed only fifty pounds. Far too small for the child to survive long without the blood it just lost in its birth.. Doctor’s gave him two weeks at the most.. they cleaned the foal and put it in a intensive care unit to put fluids into him and do what they can to keep him alive.
As the nurse took care of the foal, the rest of the crew worked on saving the mother. She lost a lot of blood and her motor functions were slowly shutting down as she went into shock and trauma. they spent two long hours on her. They manage to stabilize her and brought her mate back in.. He stood in that room, standing in silent vigil over his mate and his weak son. He stood for hours ever vigilant for any sign of danger.
Eight Hours later……
The Mare awoke to the sound of steady beats from the heart monitors. She turned her gaze to meet her mate’s as he stepped to her side, holding her hoof. He was strong, not because he wanted to be, because he had to be.. for all three of them..
“Tesoro? What is wrong?” She looked down at herself only to see that nothing was amiss. “Why, do you cry, Mi Amore?” She placed her hoof on his cheek and he nuzzled her hoof for comfort.
With a start to his voice, “I almost lost you Bliss..”
He sniffed as he wiped his tears.. “I’m sorry my love.”
Bliss looked at him confused. “Whatever for mi Caro?”
He took a moment to steady himself, then stood and walked towards the wall behind him. nearby was a crib, and in that crib a small child. He gently picked him up with his strong wings and carried him to Bliss..
Bliss gasped “Mi Amore! We have another son! Oh, hello piccolo tesorino!” She cuddled him and continue to make gentle motherly greetings and comforting noises. Her mate, watched with a pain in his heart and another tear in his eye..
“So how long do they expect our son to live?” Bliss asked while still cuddling her foal. Her mate averted his eyes. “Two weeks…” He heard her scoff “Two weeks, ha! This child is your son! He will last longer than two weeks! He will last a lifetime!”
The stallion turned to look at his mate and smiled.. He knew she was being strong, hell, he practically felt her heart tear. But then a miracle happened. The child finally opened his eyes, to see two ever hopeful, loving parents. “Welcome to the world my little pony!”
