Twilight Explodes

Just a Little Problem

"Okay, Spike, don't bother me for a little while. I have a very important experiment I have to do." Twilight closed the door to the basement, hovering a chemistry set in front of her.

"Yeah? What about?" Spike rolled over in his chair, spilling chip crumbs all over the previously clean floor.

"You're cleaning that up." Spike rolled his eyes. "Anyways, you know how this is just an illusion of our library tree? If I'm very careful, I can make a potion to permanently place it in reality! It will work alongside a spell I use to help pull it from an alternate dimension, but it's not stealing if I want it more than they do, right?"

Spike sat up and gave Twilight a long stare. Her hair was a little frizzed, but... she looked sane for now. "I'm not sure that's how it works, Twi. I mean, you wouldn't steal from Applejack, or Rainbow, or-"

"Shush, Spike! The serious study has started!" She cackled and laid out beakers, test tubes, and other equipment Spike didn't bother to learn the names of.

"Seriously? I mean, really? And isn't that the chemistry set you had when you were a filly?" Twilight's magic threw Spike out the front door.

"I could explode, you know!" Twilight yelled from behind the closed door. "Wait. The whole library could explode. Again. What if I explode the palace? What if, what if I explode Equestria?!?"

Spike rolled his eyes and decided to head into town. Maybe Sugar Cube Corner would have some gem stuff. That word that started with "pas." Pastly? Words were for egg heads.

The bell above the door clanged happily- or irritatingly, depending on one's mood- as Spike walked in. Sometimes, thought Spike, just sometimes, the pink girly happiness oozing from this place is a bit much.

"I thought you said words were for egg heads, silly!" Pinkie Pie appeared behind the counter, with frosting all over her face. "Oh, wait, oozing is a cool word, right. I bet you read it in a comic book.  Anywhooo I have some gem cupcakes already boxed in case you came in today!" She leaned dangerously far over the counter, and licked all the icing from her face. Her deep blue eyes searched Spike for approval, and he felt himself drawn to her charisma.

Then he remembered she was Pinkie, and she was scary as buck. "Thanks, Pinkie. I think I'll stay here to eat them though. Twilight is kinda going crazy with an experiment." He reached for the box she was holding out, his tongue out in anticipation. Then the door slammed open, scaring the heck out of Spike.

"CELESTIA DAMMIT! I mean, noooo, my cupcake!" Spike looked hopelessly at the box on the floor, then turned to glare at the offending pony.

Rainbow Dash sheepishly grinned. "Mah bad. Uh, I saw some smoke coming from the palace, and when I went to check it out, Twilight just screamed at me. Is that okay? Should I go back? I mean, I already checked on her. once" Dash hovered midway to the counter, looking from Pinkie to Spike and back again.

"What did she say?" Spike picked up the box, deciding a smushed cupcake was better than no cupcake.

"Something about explosions and it can only get worse from here. Pretty creepy, considering the face she was making." Dash shrugged, and pointed at a cupcake. "Hey Pinks, can I have that one?"

Pulling the cupcake from the display case, Pinkie hummed in thought. Spike carefully picked up the remains of his cupcake, then licked the icing smeared on the box.

"Do you think maybe she exploded?" Pinkie asked with a straight face. "She did mention explosions."

"Nah, there was only the one boom." Rainbow leaned against a table, carefully unwrapping her cupcake, then shoved it in her mouth. "What's she doing anyway?" she managed through half of a cupcake.

"Stealing the library from another dimension with a foal's chemistry set," Spike offered after swallowing. Rainbow snickered as Pinkie gasped. She popped into the seat next to Dash, shaking her head in disapproval.

"That is a meany-pants thing to do. Other dimension Twilight needs her library! Or she just really likes it. Or she's indifferent. Or she hates it and wishes it would burn to the ground! So many options..." Pinkie fell silent as she began to muse.
