Date Night: Octavia and Vinyl
The snow lightly fell over Ponyville one evening, a result of the Pegasi having missed a scheduled snowfall during the winter. One miss had become quite the problem, and they needed to make it snow large amounts to catch up.
Octavia Melody walked through the snowy wonderland that Ponyville had been transformed into. She was wrapped in a scarf, sweater, and winter boots in an attempt to keep warm, dragging her cello behind her through the snow.
The cold was getting to her, and all she could think about was getting home to the heat of her house and her loving marefriend.
The past week had been rough, and the snow hadn't made it any better. Problems with the music club she ran in Ponyville had been making her stressful, and many other things had not helped. All she wanted to do was see Vinyl, she knew she would understand. Vinyl was always there for her.
She slowly trudged through the snow, and approached the house that she shared with the DJ, her cello dragging heavily behind her. As she opened the door she realized the windows were closed and the lights were out, an odd thing especially for Vinyl, who loved to be in the light.
As she walked into the house she was overtaken by the warmth a very refreshing thing compared to the snow outside. The house was completely dark, save for a dim light coming from the dining room.
"Vinyl?" Octavia called out as she removed her winter clothing, leaving on only her bow tie. She turned on the lights to the room, and placed the wet clothes on a rack her and Vinyl had set up. She set the cello down next to the door and looked around to see if anything was wrong. Nothing seemed suspicious in the main room.
She walked over to where the dim light was coming from, and was greeted with a sight that cheered her up more than anything.
In the dining room was a small table, a white cloth covering it with two wine glasses already filled, a bottle of Octavia's favorite red wine sitting next to them, a pitcher of waters and in the middle of it all, a small candle. Two chairs were positioned on both sides of the table, perfectly across from each other as to ensure whoever sat in them sat face to face.
In one of them was her marefriend, Vinyl Scratch sitting down without her glasses, a smug look on her face.
"Vinyl!" Octavia gasped at the sight. "What's all of this?"
She looked on as Vinyl stood up and walked over to her, using magic to shut off the lights to entrance room behind her.
"Well," Vinyl began as she pulled Octavia over to the table. "I thought I should do something special for my favorite mare! I know how difficult this last week has been for you, even without you saying anything about it."
She sat Octavia down in one of the chairs, and quickly walked around the tale and sat in the other. The only light in the room was the dim candle between them.
"Viny!" Octavia said with a smile. "Y-you would do all this for me? I'm flattered!"
Vinyl blushed at her praise, but quickly waved it off.
"It's nothin' Tavi!" She said waving off the compliment. "I mean I realized that I really do need to do something special for my marefriend at least occasionally!"
As much as the unicorn attempted to act as if the praise didn't matter her face grew more red, and her smile grew bigger.
"You cannot simply wave this off as if this isn't special." Octavia said to her. "This is so... amazing! You really do know how to cheer me up don't you Vinyl?"
Vinyl's face grew even redder still, and she once again tried to shrug off the compliment. Her face was covered in blush, causing Octavia to giggle at her marefriend.
"Look Octy," Vinyl began, her face returning to its normal shade. "I want tonight to just be all about you and me. I know how much trouble you've been having at the Music Elite, so I figured I'd try and cheer you up!"
"Why thank you Vinyl." Octavia said with a large smile. "You really know how to make a mare feel special."
Vinyl lifted her glass telepathically, and gestured as if to toast with Octavia. Octavia caught in quickly, and raised her glass. They hit with a clink and the two mares both took a sip from the cups.
"You even got my favorite wine!" Octavia said with glee.
Vinyl chuckled a bit at the praise.
"Come on Octy you know me. If I'm gonna try and do something special I'm gonna make sure it's special!" She said before taking another sip. "Besides I always go big for my favorite mare."
Octavia blushed profusely before taking another sip of the drink.
"I thought maybe we could just drink and talk ya know?" Vinyl said casually leaning back in her chair. "I know you've been having some problems so I figured we might as well talk about it."
"Oh I've been having problems like you wouldn't believe!" Octavia said in an exasperated tone, rolling her eyes as she said it. "Some ponies simply do not understand the rules of the Ponyville Music Elite. Nor do they understand that when your subscription fee is three months overdue that they simply cannot attend the meetings."
"Let me guess who." Vinyl said with a smirk leaning forward. "Lyra?"
"Nope." Octavia said with a smile.
"Noteworthy?"
"No way!" Octavia called out. "He always pays up. But he's been annoying me in a completely different way." She rolled her eyes with the last sentence.
"Meadow Song?"
"Wrong again." Octavia said with a teasing tone. The way Vinyl had turned this into a game was adorable to her, especially since she got to tease her a little with every wrong guess.
Vinyl leaned forward again, determined to figure out who exactly the pony was. Her eyes widened for a moment.
"Was it me?" She said with a worried tone.
"Vinyl you haven't been to one of those meetings in months." Octavia said with a giggle. "Besides if it was you I'd probably make an exception."
Vinyl blushed again at the last sentence.
"Vinyl the pony is-"
"Hang on, hang on!" Vinyl called out cutting off Octavia. "I got this. Is it..."
She paused for a moment in thought, the entire time Octavia was giggling at her at her mare friends struggle.
"Fiddlesticks!" Vinyl said as she slapped her hoof on the table.
Octavia looked at her, drinking wine as she stared Vinyl in the eyes.
The DJ looked on expectantly.
Octavia slowly pulled away from the glass, enjoying watching Vinyl's annoyance at being unable to find the answer.
"Yes Vinyl you would be correct." Octavia said slowly with a smirk. She took another sip from her wine glass.
"Yes!" Vinyl said throwing her hoof into the air.
"I told ya I'd get it!" She said happily, as she began to refill Octavia's now empty wine glass.
Octavia giggled again.
"So what else has been buggin' ya?" Vinyl said as she leaned back.
"Well you have that," Octavia began. "then add in various other things from the week such as Noteworthy being unable to comprehend that I'm already in a relationship and things have been... a twinge annoying."
Octavia quickly drank more of the wine.
"How about you Vinyl?" She said as she calmly put down her drink. "Anything you want to talk about?"
"Hehe no!" Vinyl exclaimed. "I'm awesome! Nothing wrong with me!"
Octavia smirked.
"I didn't ask if anything was wrong." She said still smirking. "But now I know there is."
She said the last words in a teasing tone, causing Vinyl to blush.
"Okay." Vinyl said. "Maybe there are a few things."
"Like?" Octavia said easing an eyebrow.
"Really nothing major Tavi. Not a big deal." Vinyl said shrugging it off.
"Vinyl you can't act like you aren't worried about something." Octavia responded. "You do realize you aren't wearing your glasses."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Vinyl asked confused.
Octavia smirked.
"It allows me to see the concerned look in your eyes." She said before smugly drinking from her wine glass.
Vinyl looked at Octavia in shock, as she realized how right she was.
Man am I that bad at hiding my emotions without those things?
"Okay okay." Vinyl said. "It's really not a big deal... it's just..."
She stopped for a moment, embarrassed.
"Just...?" Octavia said raising her eyebrow.
"Well... ya see..." Vinyl said squirming uncomfortably in her seat. "I- I don't like the way ponies view me!"
She said the last part quickly before throwing her hooves over her head.
"Really?" Octavia said in surprise. "What makes you say that?"
"Well the thing is Tavi is that some ponies just don't really... get me ya know?" She said before downing her entire glass of wine. "Like... they all think I'm some crazed party obsessed... drunk! I have a sensitive side!"
"I see Vinyl." Octavia said. "Well I know of your sensitive side.
"Yeah..." Vinyl said looking up at her. "Only a few ponies do."
Octavia nodded, and urged her to go on.
"Ya see the thing is, I don't eve party that much! Have you ever seen me at a party where I wasn't the DJ?"
Octavia thought about it for a moment and then shook her head. She never really thought about that, but it was true.
"That's cause I don't go to them! I do my DJ job and go home! Partying gets tiring sometimes, why would I go to them if that's all I do for a living? They're fun and all, but I'm not some crazy party addicted person! I do my job and have fun doing it."
"This is true Vinyl, but what does this have to do with your sensitive side?"
"Well... by sensitive side I meant that they don't see the normal pony of me. Just some crazy dubstep loving party chick. Some think I'm an alcoholic! The only time I drink is special occasions and well... when I would feel down I used hit up a bar."
"Vinyl you haven't been to a bar in a long time." Octavia said confused.
Vinyl looked up to her and smiled.
"That's because I met you." She said softly.
Octavia blushed.
"Don't worry Vinyl. More ponies know you for who you are than you think." Octavia said with a reassuring tone. "If not we could always spread the word."
"Thanks." Vinyl said with a smirk.
They both sat there, filling their wine glasses some more and drinking. They didn't talk for some time, but they didn't need too. The connection they had between each other was enough to share how they both felt.
Vinyl finally broke the silence.
"You know Octy I'd be lying if I said I wasn't trying to get you to sleep with me tonight." Vinyl said in a joking voice.
Octavia caught on, but decided to play along anyway. Mess with her marefriend a bit.
"And I would be lying if I said it wasn't working." She said in a sultry voice.
Vinyl blushed profusely at the words, and nearly spit out her drink.
"Woah!" Vinyl said blushing. "O-Octy!"
She couldn't believe that she was going along with it, especially since it was meant as a joke.
But if she could Vinyl decided to try her luck.
"Yes?" Octavia said softly, fluttering her eyes.
Vinyl tried to say something else to smooth talk her, but could only manage to make mumbled words, causing Octavia to blush.
The cellist got out of her chair and dragged it over to the other side of the table, putting herself right next to Vinyl.
The unicorn blushed even more and started to drink from the pitcher of water. It suddenly felt hotter in the house than before.
Octavia laid down in the chair, pushing Vinyls arm upward and sliding her head underneath. She was now being held by the unicorn, laying her head in her lap. Octavia looked up at Vinyl, her light purple eyes sparkling in the candlelight.
Vinyl blushed even more, and started to gulp water from the pitcher, obviously very nervous. Octavia giggled.
Vinyl finally out down the pitcher and gasped.
"I-is it kinda hot in here to you?" Vinyl asked sweating slightly.
"Just a little." Octavia said. "But it's cold outside, and I get to have you to keep me warm."
Vinyl blushed profusely, and when Octavia leaned up and kissed her she blushed even more.
"J-jeez Tavi." Vinyl said stuttering, obviously embarrassed. "Y-you really know how to make a mare feel special."
Octavia simply nodded and kissed her again.
"It's because I know your sensitive side." She said giggling. "You're not the smoothest mare when you get to romance are you?"
Vinyl blushed again.
"Y-yeah Octy. Maybe I'll leave the romantic stuff to you!" She said giggling.
Octavia sighed softly.
"I love date nights." She said gently, before leaning in and passionately kissing the embarrassed unicorn.
