Dead in civilization
Skeletal Guardian
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe skeleton pulsed and grew, it was now the size of a small hill. Marcia jumped frantically around. "BIGGER?! HOW DID IT GET BIGGER!?" The skeletal being seemed to be made up of various bones from different species. It had a large Minotaur skull and its ribs were made up of various sea creatures ribs. One arm was a single bone that was spiked at the end, despite this the bone still bent to and fro like a normal arm. The other arm was made up on large dragon forearm and an unknown creatures radius. The spine was a mix mach of bones, no two being the same. The rest of the skeleton was made up of unidentifiable bones, worn by time and being submerged in dirt.
"Alright, stay calm..." Nazz shuddered. "Dead, you're a bone-weaver, what going on with it? The guardian seems to be growing!" The changling stated as the skeleton pulsed and grew again.
"Its been enchanted by something, it will stop growing soon. Now you three..." Dead chuckled. "Remember that old bone necklace? Well I need you to find it."
"Wha... Wait I'm not going to question it..." Grim sighed. "Come on then!"
"I will keep the skeleton distracted. But as soon as you find the necklace I need to know." Dead sighed. The skeleton was now the size of a large hill and attempted to step on the group.
Twilight watched the foot come down on the necromancers. three of them dodged it. Dead did not. It went silent in Twilight's group. Everypony in shock at what just happened. "Did..." Rainbow stuttered. "Did that thing just crush Dead?" Rainbow was calm, Twilight assumed she was in shock. Nopony in the group said a word. The necromancers were scrambling around, they were digging and raising skeletons. Twilight noticed a small trail of ice form around the foot that had crushed Dead.
"Of course..." Twilight mumbled, a huge smile came over her face.
"What is it Twilight?" Cadance shakily said.
"She ate a lich. And she was just killed. Cadance, did you ever read that book on lichs and other undead creatures?"
"Of course. I read it several times before sending it over. What of it?"
"Dead is a necromancer, who was just killed. However..."
"Of course!"
A large ball of ice exploded out from under the foot on the skeletal creature. A skeleton resembling one who had recently been crushed emerged. White fire burned in the chest and eye sockets of the skeleton and two large skeletal wings formed on its back. The skeleton flew away from the larger skeleton and floated at chest height.
"Of course!" Cadance remarked. "She let it kill her! So that she could come back as a lich!"
"The amulet that she mentioned, it was in the book. If she puts it on within the first hour of being a lich, it will bring her back to life. However the amulet will shatter upon use." Twilight looked at the ground. "We need to start looking for it. If Dead's time runs out her mind will deteriorate. She will try and kill her friends... And us if she sees us."
The group spread out and began looking for the amulet.
Not good. Dead thought to herself. I need to be quick. She repeated in her mind, the icy chill of death clawed at her mind, shouting at her. Kill them. Kill them all. Why should they live while you suffer death. Dead fought hard against the will of the lich, its undead grip on her mind tightening. Dead flew up and hit the skeletal creature dead in its sternum with a large ice lance. The skeleton stumbled back and nearly fell over, however it swiftly regained its footing and charged quickly at Dead.
"Look out!" Dead shouted to the ponies below. She turned her eyeless gaze below and saw her friends raining away from the large creatures feet. She also saw Twilight and her friends digging up holes behind the treeline. Kill them! Oh shut up! What is Twilight doing here? Doesn't matter I need to stop this thing. Dead thought to herself. No you need to kill them! Dead sighed and attempted to fly up to the skeleton's jaw. However one of its arm slammed her back down. Why do you fight what you are? Just kill them. They will understand. Dead was now getting rather annoyed by the voice in her head, the voice that told her to kill those she liked. She knew she would not be able to fight both the skeleton and the voice for much longer.
Dead flew around the skeleton and charged into the bottom of its spine, she hit the skeleton with such force that it began to topple over. "Look out below!" Dead shouted without the use of a tongue. the skeleton fell down with a large crash and began to rapidly shrink. Grim briefly tried attack, however his claws bounced off the bones of the guardian.
"Argh! Its not use!" Grim tried to charge his claw, however this bounced back a second time. "Dead! We need help!" Grim called out.
Dead landed next to Grim. "Grim, there are others in the treeline. I counted seven of them. Gather them, alive preferably." Dead chuckled. "I will deal with this skeleton." Then you will kill your friends! HAHAHAHA! "I don't know how much longer I can hold this up... Its clawing at my mind." Grim nodded and signaled to the other two necromancers to follow him. Dead looked at the skeleton and grinned slightly.
The skeleton raised one of its large bony arms and conjured a white fire bolt and hurled it at Dead. Dead conjured up an ice lance that impacted with the fire bolt just before it came crashing into her. The skeleton quickly charged through the settling debris and picked up Dead in one claw. The skeleton slammed Dead into a nearby rock and began pummeling her into the ground. After seven pounds Dead's vision started to fade. In a brief rush of adrenaline she quickly teleported away. She decided not to question how she had an adrenaline rush without any bodily systems.
Dead quickly regained her bearings and conjured another ice lance and charged it at the skeleton. The skeleton was thrown back by the sudden impact, Dead then Charged at the skeleton and grabbed it with her magic. She threw it at a nearby rock, causing its skull to split. Dead could make out a quiet rattling sound from the skeleton. Dead resumed hurling ice lances at the skeleton until it started ignoring them.
Dead started hauling ice balls at the skeleton. The skeleton started keeping it distance. It side stepped past Dead's attacks and attempted to ram Dead every now and then. Surely you can see the futility of it all. All you have to do is stop. Dead shook her head, in the lapse on consecration the skeleton was able to connect a heavy hitting blow. Dead flew until she connected with the ground. She shakily stood up. "Urff..." Dead mumbled. The skeleton slowly moved forward and enclosed on Dead.
Dead charged up all her energy, she knew that this would end in two ways. She would keep her mind, or lose it. The torrent of white energy unleashed itself from Dead's bony horn. A white bolt with a grey skull in the center of it slowly flew towards the skeleton as it moved in closer. The skeleton nimbly dodged the bolt, however as the bolt began to fly off Dead grabbed it in her magic and swung it around. The bolt locked onto the skeletons back and struck it. The skeleton flew forward and began to disintegrate, the skeleton disintegrated as Grim emerged from the treeline.
"Dead, we could not find it..."
"The skeleton's skull... Its in the skeleton's skull! Please, I can't..." Dead pleaded, the voice in her head attempt to take over what little free will Dead had. Grim ran over to the skeleton's ashes. He quickly searched through them and picked up a necklace with a skull pendant on. Grim threw the necklace to Dead who then flew off. Twilight emerged with the others.
"Where is she is going?" Twilight asked.Twilight attempted to run forward however Grim stopped her.
"Twilight. Her flesh burned off her body while she was dead. That amulet is about to do the reverse of it. While she can feel it." Grim looked at the floor. "Twilight it would be best that you go home. Or at least out of hearing range... Once you hear it..."
"GAAAAHHHHHHHH!" A blood curdling howl could be herd from the trees, several flocks of birds flew out of trees and away from
