Just don't know what went wrong
What went wrong
Load Full StoryDerpy sat down thinking about her happy life. She had invited her friends over to chat for a bit! Exept Vinyl. She had a concert that night, and couldn't attend her little get-together. Derpy placed Octavia's pillow next to Bon Bon and Lyra's. The six friends always sat down on the pillows with cups of hot chocolate or coffee, by the fireplace, with red blankets wrapped around themselves. This night, was Derpy's turn to tell a story. She heard a knock on her door.
"Hello?"
Derpy could make out the muffled voice of Dr. Whooves.
"Come in" she called, as she set his pillow and blanket next to hers.
Dr. Whooves scurried in as he slammed the door shut.
"Woah, there!" Exclaimed Derpy.
"Sorry, Derpy! It's just too snowy outside!" Said Dr. Whooves, apologetically.
Derpy frowned "really? Let me see" she said as she opened the door and was instantly knocked over by Bon Bon and Lyra Heartstrings.
"Girls!" Said Derpy in a anoyyed, yet happy tone.
Lyra shrugged. "Too windy and cold outside" she said.
Bon Bon shook off some snow that was on her cream colored coat. She quickly removed her scarf and boots, and set them by Derpy's small coat hanger. Lyra did the same as she went to the kitchen to choose her small treat and beverage.
"What about Tavi?" Asked Bon Bon.
"She'll be here late" mumbled Dr. Whooves, with a drop of uncertainty in his voice.
Bon Bon chose hot chocolate and a small Madeline cookie as she retreated to the fireplace. Lyra got a cappuccino and two Oreo cookies as she went to sit with Lyra. Dr. Whooves got a Espresso and a chocolate chip cookie. Derpy, as always got a hot chocolate with whipped cream and a muffin. She flew steadily over to her friends as she sat down.
"I think Octavia may not be coming" said Bon Bon.
"Oh, she's coming, allright" said Lyra.
"Anypony home?" Asked the muffled voice of Octavia.
"See?" Asked Lyra.
Derpy flew to the door. She opened it a crack, and saw her friend standing there, shivering with a scarf and small boots. "Come in" said Derpy as she gestured for her to come inside.
Octavia shot in slamming the door shut.
"How cold can it be?" Asked Derpy as she went outside and opened the door. Cold, harsh winds flew Into her face, and stung her eyes. She quickly closed them and went back inside. She shut the door, quickly.
"How cold was it?" Asked Dr. Whooves as he turned to face her.
"Very cold" replied the dazed Derpy.
"Well. Derpy, so kind of you to volunteer in inviting us here" said Octavia, as she took a sip of her hot cocoa.
Derpy cleared her throat. "So who's turn is it to ask me the question?" She asked.
"Me!" Said Bon Bon, as she waved her hoof in the air.
"Okay, Bon Bon, I'm ready" said Derpy.
"What happened to your parents? Ours are still alive!, why not yours?" Asked Bon Bon.
Derpy's face fell as she felt her heart sink at the thought. It had not occurred to her to think about that ugly memory. "I-i" was all she could manage to say.
"You don't have to do it, if you don't want to" said Dr. Whooves, resting his hoof on her shoulder.
Derpy sighed. "Fifteen years ago..." began Derpy."I was only seven...."
"Mother, how many times are we supposed to stir, this thing?" Asked Derpy. She could barley reach the counter, and her flank was blank.
"Oh, silly!" Said her mother, cheerfully as she lifted Derpy up on the counter and gave her the stirring spoon. "As many times as you can, but the cream has to be thick and nice" replied her mother.
Derpy began trying to stir, but failed to do it. She looked down. "I'm not good at baking" she said sadly.
Derpy's mother lifted her chin up. "Aw, Derpy, you may not be the best at baking, but what counts is that your being yourself and having fun!" Said her mother sweetly.
Derpy smiled as she looked back up at her mom and gave her a tight hug. "I love you mama" she said.
Derpy's mom hugged back. "I love you too. You'll always be my little filly" she whispered.
Derpy let go, as she grabbed the stirring spoon again and gave it another shot at stirring the batter, for the cake.
"See, Derpy? It's not how you fall down. It's how you get back up" she said lovingly.
Derpy nodded in agreement, as the batter began to turn the slightest bit thicker.
"Good job! Here, you can lick the spoon clean" said her mother as she gestured towards the spoon in Derpy's hoof.
"Thanks, mama" she said as she began licking the spoon.
Derpy's mom quickly, took out another one and stirred the batter until in was all thick. She quickly put it in the sink, when she was done.
"Mama, when is papa getting home?" Asked Derpy.
"Later, honey. He's at work" she said as she popped the batter in the oven and sat the time.
Derpy grinned as she jumped off the counter, and sat In front of the oven. She always loved watching the batter rise up, and make a cake. She licked her lips, at the thought of having frosting on it.
She heard a loud knock on the door. "Papa's home!" Said Derpy as she galloped as fast as her little hooves could take her, to the door.
Derpy's mother grabbed her. She was breathing heavily and had a worried look on her face. "Derpy, hide! Now!" Sue instructed.
Derpy didn't understand. "Why mama?" She asked.
"Do it! Now!" Said her panicked mother. She set Derpy on her back and hid her in a large coat pocket and put a hat on top of her. "Stay there!" She instructed. There was another loud knock, as her mother opened the door.
"Where's the child?" Ordered a stallion. He was NOT her father.
"I don't have a filly" lied Derpy's mother.
"Yes, you do!" Said the stalluon, fiercely.
"No. I. Don't!" Exclaimed Derpy's mom, angrily. Derpy had never seen her like this.
The stallion frowned and grabbed her quickly.
Derpy's mom screamed and struggled, but the stallion used his magic to chain her down to a couch.
Derpy's mom screamed as loud as she could, but no one could hear her. The stallion opened her hind legs as he opened his own, and did something Derpy would never forget. It lasted hours. Derpy's mom was screaming through cries. She gagged when the stallion opened his hind hooves by her mouth.
Derpy screwed her eyes shut and sank down, as she heard her mother choke and cough and scream and cry and moan in pain, and noises that still bothered her to this day. She would never forget the horrible names he had called her and the way that he had killed her.
When he was done he left her corpse on the couch and galloped off slamming the door shut. Derpy dared to peek out. Her dead mother had blood smeared on her tail and a foul smell by her mouth. She lay unmoving. Derpy put her front hooves on her. "Mama?" She asked. She climbed up on the couch, and burried her face in her mother's once soft and silky mane. "Mama" she whispered sadly, as tears streamed down her face. She felt her heart shatter and her spirits fall.
When her father came home, he himself mourned for her, and Derpy explained how she had gotten killed. They made a tombstone for her and many came ,to try and comfort Derpy, but nothing could fill the gap in her heart. Life was never the same without her caring mother. No one played or baked with her after school anymore. She had to trot to school and back. Nothing could fix her shattered heart. Derpy saw the world as a dark, cruel place now and lost interest in playing. It took her thirteen years to mentally recover and start behaving like a normal pony her age, but deep down inside, her heart was still shattered and beaten.
Derpy was close to tears as she finished her terrible story.
They were all speechless.
Derpy didn't hold back as she burst into tears. "A-and I'll never know why my mother was killed" she concluded.
Dr. Whooves put his hoof around Derpy and nuzzled her face into Derpy's soft coat fur.
Derpy kept on crying as the others went to Derpy, to try and comfort their broken friend.
