Sugarcube Corner's doors opened and in stepped a bubbly, pink earth pony with a paper bag in her mane. Her friends sat at the table and greeted her as she sat down. "Hey there Pinkie! What's that in your mane?" Rainbow Dash pointed at the paper bag. "Is it for Sugarcube Corner?"

"No; I'm off, silly!" Pinkie let out a small giggle. "Do you want to know?"

"Yeah I do!" Rainbow Dash's hoof went into the air.

"Are you ready?"

"Yeah!"

Pinkie pulled the bag out of her mane, set it on the table, and looked at her fellow friends. "These are... the amazing... the extraordinary... the mind-blowing..." she pulled out two smaller plastic bags with what looked like many colourful elastic bands inside, "LOOM BANDS!"

Everypony on the table tilted their heads, and Applejack looked at her as if she was insane (which she probably was). "Pinkie, Ah knew you were never wired up right, but Ah had no idea that it was this bad."

"Yes darling, what could you possibly do with these 'loom bands' of yours?

"Well, I found rubber bands helpful for flicking in class as a filly, and elastic bands would work even better."

"Umm... I have no idea what you would use them for..."

"Looks like you could strangle a pony with those."

"Twilight!"

"Sorry."

"No-no-no-no-no! I got these imported from Earth!"

Twilight shook her head. "Earth? Where in the hay is that? Even I haven't heard of that."

"Uh, sugarcube, you plant crops in the earth, not elastic bands."

"No, Earth the place! The planet where humans come from! Our viewers! They're reading this right now!"

"What in Equestria are you t-"

"HELLO HUMANS! I KNOW YOU'RE READING! Special message from Pinkie Pie! I've just got some of your fancy loom bands! From Pinkie Pie!" She waved to the air.

"O-kay..." Twilight scratched the back of her neck with a hoof. "So, what are these bands for?"

"Oh my gosh! I totally forgot to tell you what you can make out of them! You can make bracelets, and rings, and NECKLACES out of them! Doesn't that sound great?" She took out six pieces of paper. "Here, take these. These are instructions. Oh, and..." She pulled out four more bags and handed the six bags of them to her friends and herself. "Here's some bands. Have fun!"

A few days later, on her day off, Applejack walked out of Sweet Apple Acres and went to Ponyville. On the outskirts, everypony she walked past was wearing jewellery of some sort. She dismissed it as a silly last-minute local holiday and walked on. Suddenly, out of the blue (literally), a figure landed in front of Applejack. "Applejack! Look at this! Isn't it cool!"

"Huh?" Rainbow had lifted a hoof and showed Applejack a bracelet made out of elastic bands. "When'd you get inta jewellery, Rainbow?"

"I know, I shouldn't, but they're just so fun to make! Plus making them gives me extra wing exercise, come to think of it. Everypony is wearing them, didn't you see?"

"Yeah, but Ah thought it was some weird holiday."

"You still have the bag, don't you?"

"At home, yeah."

"You need to go get them! Everypony is making them at Sugarcube Corner! Wait, oh yeah! They supply the bands for free!"

"Yeah, that's real cool," she said, walking past, "Ah guess Ah have nothin' ta lose, do Ah?"

Rainbow Dash flew alongside her earth pony friend. "But a lot to gain!"

In Sugarcube Corner, everypony wore loom bands somewhere on their legs, horn or neck. Rainbow Dash and Applejack sat on a table where all of their friends were, chatting and making loom bands. All except for Pinkie Pie.

"Hey guys!" Rainbow Dash seated herself. "Look here at this one I made last night! It's awesome, isn't it?"

"Yeah," Applejack said, "Ah'm gonna take some instructions and bands and make mah first 'un."

Applejack took some loom bands and a sheet of instructions as Pinkie walked in and sat down. "Everypony's looking good in their loom bands! Wait, Applejack, why don't you have any loom bands?"

"Ah didn't get time ta make 'em, Ah'm gonna try now... wait, what sort of language is that... and what are those things on the pictures?"

"I told you they were imported from Earth! Things are different over there! HELLO READERS!"

Twilight spoke up. "What language is that?"

"Oh, what language? It's English!"

Applejack had the loom band twisted in a figure eight around her hooves, and the two on top. "Wait a minute, how am Ah meant ta pull these over?"

"Do you need help?" Pinkie Pie asked.

"Nah, Ah'm fine." She was fine until one of the bands snapped and hit her in the face. "Gosh darnit!"

Applejack stayed at Sugarcube Corner until its closing time, when only Pinkie was around. She tried and tried but the loom bands would either snap in her face or fly off her hooves. Applejack tried staying after closing time, but she got kicked out, which sent bands sprawling on the floor because she had grabbed them.

The earth pony walked home upset. She could not do loom bands, but she was determined. "Ah'll be the best like nopony ever was!"

The poor pony didn't sleep for hours. She tried and tried and tried, but she couldn't get it right. Her face was starting to hurt. "DAMMIT!" And with this she threw the bag of loom bands and s-clips out of the window.

The next morning, she was woken by Apple Bloom. "Sis! Big sis! Look at mah loom band! Ain't it pretty?"

"NO-" she took off the bracelet- "IT'S-" she took the s-clip off of the bracelet- "NOT!" she flung the bracelet out of the window, followed by the clip.

Apple Bloom looked at Applejack, distraught. "YOU. ARE. DISEASED." She walked out of the room with a huff.

"Well, there's one friendship gone, many more to go!"
