Tall Tales
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryChapter 1
Silver Quill sat on her couch at home staring blankly at her glowing screen, the page still blank on a chapter for a novel she was working on and needed to complete. Messing her mane in frustration she turned off her computer and lay down on her back looking up at the ceiling, "Why is it so hard to come up with idea's..."
Thankfully a knock on the door of her flat provided just the distraction from her work that she needed galloping at full speed to answer the door.
The pony behind the door was arguably one of her best friends in town; Peach Petal. Peach always had a way of giving Silver Quill the sudden flash of inspiration she needed to write her stories.
"Hey!" The earth pony exclaimed happily throwing her hooves around the unicorns neck and pulling her into a hug.
Silver Quill smiled returning the hug and showed her friend inside, "I am so glad to see you Peach!"
Peach walked inside sitting on the couch where Silver once lay looking at her computer monitor turned off, "Its one of those days huh?"
"Mhm," the Unicorn replied grumpily as she slumped onto the chair, "I'm having trouble thinking up idea's for my story again..."
"Hmm... did you try listening to some music like you normally do?" The earth pony asked trying to think of ways to help her friend.
Silver rolled her eyes and nodded again, "Of course I tried that first, but after awhile I found myself just repeating good scenes that don't entirely link together in the right order."
Peach smiled softly, "I'm sure you will figure it out, you always have before."
"Uh-huh," Silver Quill slowly went over to her book self scanning over her collection, several were her favourites and she never had a complaint about any of them. She wondered how they got so popular, how they would always come up with idea's to write about time and time again while keeping their stories interesting and suspenseful.
Peach noticing her friend lost in though staring at her bookshelf decided to creep away and raid her fridge for some snacks.
Silver Quill grasped the book on the top shelf in a sheath of her magic and floated it down in front of her self, Daring Do and the Quest for the Sapphire Stone. The Daring Do series was one of the few novels that actually got her into writing, as well as a few other choices that often made her squee. Even if she was re-reading them they still managed to hook her into the story and make her want to read more and ignore the rest of her life just to read that one more chapter that would soon turn into five.
Her friend trotted out a small plate with a sandwich on it placed perfectly on her head, Silver turned seeing this and pondered weather or not earth pony hair had some special magic that allowed them to hold things better in their mane.
Silver sighed. She was alone once again and found herself staring at her computer, the Daring Do novel beside her, earbloom's safely tucked into her ears filling them with her music as she began typing. She only got halfway down the page when she began reading it over, "No no no no!" she shouted in frustration deleting it all once more having nothing but a blank scene in front of her. The words didn't flow with one another.
She lay back once more with a heavy sigh the cursor blinking every second in perfect rhythm. She stared at it wondering if that might bring her some stroke of brilliance.
"I need to get out of the house," She said plainly getting up and going to check herself in the mirror. Her mane was a frazzled mess and her coat was no better.
It took her only a few minutes to sort herself out, it really wasn't too difficult a fix and she really wanted to get out of the house. Dashing out the door she shut it behind her with her magic. A warm smile spread across her face at the clean Ponyville air, she knew exactly where she was going to. The library!
Knocking her hoof carefully on the door silver waited patently for the mare who lived here to answer.
A purple unicorn mare smiled as she opened the door to see silver quill standing in the doorway, "Here to do some research for your books?"
"More or less, I'm actually trying to find something to get me away from that if I can." Silver said her eyes hidden behind the silver frames of her glasses as she peered inside the library.
"Well come on in, this is a library, it's open to everypony."
As the unicorn let her pass Silver Quill trotted in happily, gazing around at each of the books she wondered which one she would read first. Deciding on several she would spend the day muzzle deep between the pages, she pulled each book she would want to read and trotted over to a table setting the stack of nearly ten books down before sitting and pulling the first off the stack glossing over the title before getting right into it.
She spent most of her day doing that and found out some pretty interesting information she never knew before that might be usefull. As the day rolled on and swiftly turned to night, Luna's light rose into the night sky and reflected off Silver's glasses which resulted in an annoying glare that stole her attention away from the book. "Sweet Celestia is that the time!?" She quickly began placing books back where she found them with the exception of one.
"Signing that one out?" the purple unicorn asked smiling to Silver Quill, Silver felt so embarrassed at that moment having spent so much time simply lost in a sea of knowledge.
Giving a small nod she looked at the purple unicorn still floating a book of magic spells beside her.
"Well go ahead then, but be sure to return that, somepony might need that book too."
"Thanks Twilight," Silver then bolted out the door and towards her home. Arriving at her front door she reached for the handle, but spied something else out of the corner of her eye, an opportunity she couldn't pass up.
Peach Petal was resting at home, a book opened up in front of her, a book made specific unicorn mare she just so happened to be friends with. She looked out the window and smiled softly at the amazing view of Ponyville she had from her flat.
Looking back down at the book she gently closed the covers with her hoof, "I wonder what 'she' is doing right now?" Peach asked herself as she picked up the book and placed it on her bedside table.
Pulling crawling under the covers she smiled and sighed happily under the sheets of her double bed closing her eyes slowly and letting Luna's light shine on her face as she drifted off into a deep sleep.
Silver softly lay under a tree, a softly quilt drooped over her back as a book lay between her hooves, sure it was studying but it was also the perfect opportunity to read. Teleportation, the one spell that had eluded her for so long was now right in front of her and nothing was going to stop her from learning this one.
However her study was interrupted by a cloud hovering beside her tree however in such a manner that the pony on top of it was blocking the moonlight.
Silver could see a familiar smile as the pony on top of the cloud jumped down on top of her tickling Silver with her feathers, "No!" she, shouted but the pony who completely ignored her and continued to tickle the helpless mare.
