Chapter 1, Life

“No, no, no! Go back! Mommy! Daddy! NO!” Flames engulf the house as I’m carried to safety.

***

I sat up in bed, dripping with sweat, breathing heavily, quickly.  My heart was racing. My eyes wide open to the small amount of light that was coming into the room. It had been 3 years since that day… the day I lost my parents in a house fire. I lay back down in bed, still breathing quickly. My orange coat and red and green mane dripping with sweat. I take a moment to calm down before I take a look out the window. It was nearly noon and the sky was clear blue.

I’m Flamebow Shy, a 10 year old Pegasus with problems. Like I said my parents died 3 years ago in a fire. I have a long-ish red and green main and tail with an orange coat. I have slightly discoloured patches in my coat due to it being burnt off in the fire. My eyes are sky blue and I am quite small.

When my parents died I was left to fend for myself. I lived on the streets for a month or two before the local orphanage found me and took me in. It was a living hell. I was beaten for no reason and punished for saying so. I developed a bedwetting problem by the age of 8 and got more beating because of it. By 8 and a half I had permanent damage and was incontinent. I got bullied and embarrassed for wearing diapers until one of the best days of my life happened.

“Foal!”

“Little baby diaper flank!”

The names just kept coming. The other children surrounded me. I felt the thick padding against my rear and whimpered. Tears formed in the corners of my eyes as I sniffled.

“Aww look, Shy’s crying again!”

I sat down on the floor and let them. They poked me, pushed me about, made fun of me. Anything that came to their hate-filled minds. I just sat there and cried to myself, wishing it would all go away, wishing I had died in the fire instead. I just wanted it to end.

That night, after everyone had gone to bed, a stranger walked in. I only knew of this because I saw him while I was having my diaper changed for bed. He looked royal in ranking and was talking to Mrs Wickerbottem. He was looking at some papers but I couldn’t make out what he was saying. He noticed me and smiled. I blushed a deep red as a cloth diaper was pinned into place.

The next morning we were told to make ourselves presentable. It was adoption day. I was sure I would never get adopted, being the smallest, weakest, and most pitiful of all the colts and fillies there.

We lined up in the main room as mares and stallions walked in, eyeing all of us over, judging who they would want the best. We were told that if we were not adopted within one hour then we were to go back to our rooms. I noticed some one the ponies eyeing me questionably and some even making quite jokes to each other.

I stood there in my diaper and looked at the floor the whole time, knowing that I would never be picked; I would never be given the chance for a happy life. Ten minutes passed, twenty, thirty then forty. By fifty minuets 4 or 5 of the children had gone, still leaving myself and 10 others. ‘I knew I wouldn’t get adopted’ I thought to myself sadly.

But then something amazing happened.

“Flamebow Shy!” I thought I heard Mrs Wickerbottem say.

‘Great, now I’m hearing things’ I thought.

“Flamebow Shy! Would you please step out of the line!” I heard Wickerbottem again.

I looked up amazed. I saw the royal man from last night standing in front of me. I blushed deeply and stared.

“Hello there Shy, I’m Charles Hooften, Princess Luna’s steward. But you,” he put a hoof on my shoulder, “You can call me Dad”

***

And that’s how I ended up here, in Luna’s castle, in a soaking wet diaper. I moved in two days ago and they were the best two days of my life. I got given proper food. I didn’t get made fun of or bullied. I was changed lovingly instead of hatefully by my new Dad. I even got to meet Princess Luna and Princess Celestia!

“Princess Luna seemed quite interested in you last night Shy.” Charles Hoofton said as he walked in.

I opened my mouth as to talk but don’t. I hadn’t talked since leaving the orphanage.

“Come now Shy, you must want to talk to me?” he asked as he sat down on the couch in the corner of my new room. He patted the seat next to him, signalling that I should sit down. I did as he wanted and sat.

“It said that you had worn diapers ever since you joined the orphanage on your information sheet. But I don’t believe them.” He said inquisitively “Why don’t you tell me the real reason? Hmm?”

I hesitate at first but manage to get some words out. “I-I wear dia-” I was cut off by a catch in my throat. I coughed loudly for a couple of seconds.

“Oh my Celestia!” Charles got up out if his seat and was about to call the nurse before I stopped. “Shy, are you ok my boy?” he sounded worried about me

“Y-yes…” I spoke in a quite high pitched voice.

“Oh, you scared the living daylights out of me! Please, do continue”

“Well, I-I wear diapers because… because…”

“Well? What is it?”

“They beat me!” I cried. I started to cry loudly as he pulled me in for a hug “Th-they punished me and beat me a-and I cloudlet h-help it!”

“Shh, shh. Its ok, it’s ok. Nobody can hurt you now.” he stroked my mane and help me close to himself.

I felt loved like I hadn’t felt in a long time. We spent another couple of minutes just sitting there as I calmed down and the whole time he was hushing and telling thing like “It’s gunna be ok” and “clam down”

“Now, how about we change you out of this wet diaper and get some breakfast?” he said as he looked into my eyes. I nodded and he picked me up. He carried me out of my room and into the one next to it. In there was a large changing table and a stack of cloth diapers and pins.

He laid me down onto the table and wiped a few tears from my eyes. He took out the pins of my cloth diaper and started to change me. He then got a wipe and wiped me clean. He took the wet diaper and threw it away.

“We have some much nicer diapers for you Shy, you don’t need those ones anymore.” He produced a dark blue cloth diaper with little stars all over it and placed it under me.

He then powdered me, which they never did at the orphanage. I giggled a little as the powder tickled. He then pulled up the front of the diaper, pinned it up and helped me off the table.
