Friendship was never really something I had given much thought to. Yeah, the hive was pretty big back in the day, you know, before that whole failed invasion thing. Oh gods, we lost so many that day, it hurts just to think about it sometimes. But friendship? That was an unspoken word with an alien meaning. We had no use for friends, we had each other. We were like family, we worked together toward common goals, like expanding the hive, gathering love, ~~taking over the world~~. Because of that, maybe, that might have been the reason the idea of friendship was so alien, foreign… Equestrian. What use was friendship when you are all already part of a big family? Oh listen to me ramble on and on, being all philosophical and such. So anyway, who am I? My name is Sigma, and I’m the first changeling to attempt friendship with another race. But, see, this wasn’t my idea. Me and about six of my comrades, well I say comrades but we're more… um, well I just say comrades. We’re just trying to find our Queen and bring her home, well that was the general plan, nothing more than that. Just find her, nab her, and take her to the hive. Needless to say her life was placed in great danger and we blew our cover right in front of the pony princess herself. I was suddenly promoted the leader of our little group as they betrayed me, shoving me forward against my will. I hate them all a little more. Midna, you annoy me to no end but I still thought better of you than that! The pony leader, Celestia, was true to her word and didn’t vaporize us on the spot. Instead we were given a golden opportunity, save the Queen AND secure a bright future! I embraced that idea whole heartedly. The others, though, not so much. They joined me in the Everfree shortly after I discovered the Queen was alive, and unfortunately I know next to nothing about any of them. I know there’s Sven, and I know that he’s really quiet. I don’t remember if he actually spoke his name or we all just randomly started calling him that. He sat by himself most of the time, away from the group as we camped in the forest. I think a lot of us were too concerned for the Queen to bother asking him anything. And then there’s Midna, loud and easily excited, she just wouldn’t shut up and would never leave me in peace. I’ve given up on trying to shoo her away, but I’m literally the only one she talks to. No idea why, but probably because I’ve found the queen and she thinks I’m more important than the others and would get her a higher rank in the hive. If anyone among us was slightly normal, it would have to be Ara, she said she was the Queen’s hive-maiden her entire life. She was quiet but kept expressing the importance of saving the Queen, probably a little too much but I think she’s just worried. We’ve even got a kid, Cobalt, just barely old enough to start thinking of a career in the hive. I also think that little Cobalt is insane. The entire time we were in the forest he kept writing in this little notebook, staring at trees, and he even attempted to eat bark! Apparently he’s never left the hive, as young as he is that’s expected. But still, all he did in the hive was read books about the hive. Never been out, never even bothered to ask about the outside. I think he wants to be an apprentice to one of the advisers or something. Knowing this, I can’t help but wonder, how the hell did he wind up in Canterlot? I have no idea. Just thinking about the last two in our little group makes me nervous, alright who am I kidding? Those two scare the living daylights out of me. There’s Faina, she’s incredibly strong and angrily blows up at almost anything. Seriously, Cobalt just says he’s tired and boom, she’s screaming her head off about he shouldn’t even be here because he's weak and on and on. Then not long after that, on our first night she killed a rabbit and bit its head off! Who the hell does that?! We don’t even eat meat and yet first thing she does is bite the head off a rabbit! Needless to say I now try and avoid her notice. The other one, Roruo I think his name was, just kept antagonizing Faina! She would get pissed, whip out her claw blades, and try to take his head. That fool Roruo would simply laugh at her and summon two swords and fight her. Now, this isn’t like how normal changelings or ponies would fight. This was more on par with demons fighting each other. I swear I saw Faina block an attack and the raw power behind it made her fly through a tree, then she leaps out and delivers a blow just as strong! Luckily they fought each other to a standstill, the surrounding forest completely destroyed around us. Unfortunately they just resorted to yelling at each other about how they were better than the other. This attracted unwanted attention. We were ambushed by a manticore. While the rest of us feared for our lives those two took the interruption as a personal insult. They screamed at it for being rude, then spun around and kicked it in the face like some freak choreographed dance move. I will never be able to get the sound of a manticore skull being smashed to bits out of my head, luckily the nightmares are fading. The image of them having a manticore eating contest afterword? Not so much. And so that’s how our days went as we searched to the Queen. Or I should say, Ara and I searched while Midna hung off of me, the two demons fought in the background while Sven hung back with Cobalt nearby, who was looking at anything and everything. And now here we are, cowering in fear and worry around our Queen. Or it seemed like it. Ara, at least, seemed to be focusing solely on the Queen, nuzzling her and trying to get some sort of response. “Whelp, I’m bored.” I heard someling say. “Same. I’m outta here.” I looked up, it was the demon spawn! Celestia seemed confused, simply sitting there and watching events unfold with her student. Rorou was heading toward the door while Faina headed in the opposite direction toward a window. “You- you can’t just leave now! We need to look after the Queen!” I pleaded. Roruo paused at the door to look back, “I’m not stopping you. Besides, I need to up my game if I want to beat the piss out of that bitch over there.” He casually said with a motion toward Faina, much to the shock of the ponies. Faina hissed at him angrily, “You are but an insolent fool! Your luck in the forest will run out and I will have your head as a trophy!” She spun around and made to fly out the window. Now you see, changelings don’t have such things as glass in windows, so when she crashed through the glass we were all taken by surprise, Roruo instead bursting out in laughter as he left through the door. I looked back between the confused ponies, to the broken window, to the other changelings. Celestia had a frown as she looked at me, not a glare, just a look of some sort. “Eh heh heh…” I scratched the back of my head in embarrassment, “I’m sure they’ll get along just fine…” I wasn’t too sure of that, even as she simply raised an eyebrow. All I could think of was, ‘Oh fuck, this will not end well.’ Author's Note And there you are, the introduction to Sigma Force! This title was the hardest thing to come up with but I think it fits.
