Nothing, this is what i see
Load Full StoryNothing. This is what i see. Not Darkness, nor Light, Nothing. Your could say that i see Darkness, but i've never seen in my life. So who would be to judge that it really was Darkness? It could be something else. The main point is. I'm Blind. I don't See anything. I can't in take the light around me that would allow ponies to see. All i see, is nothing.
And i had to live like that for 11 years, I had been blind since Birth. With that, i never saw in my life. But being blind has it's upsides. Since i never saw in my life, i wouldn't of felt the fear of not knowing the world that i would've once known. I wouldn't be afraid to live the way i had once done it. This way, i'm ready for my disabillity and can overcome it. I'd overcome that disabillity for 11 years. And this is how i had to make the biggest decision in my life.
I woke up to the sound of my Alarm clock. The sound that would tell you "You're still alive" But also be like, "HAHAHAHAH YOU HAVE TO WAKE UP NOW? DID I RUIN YOUR DREAM?". In many ways, it isn't normally your best friend, but it's not your enemy. I reached over to shut it off and by doing so, i hit my glasses off onto the floor.
"Damnit" I softly shouted. I always told myself i should be careful where i put them. My Glasses served as defense between others seeing my eyes and me closing them. Because it's very hard to close your eyes for the whole day when you're not tired.
I pulled my Glasses on and slipped out of bed. After living here for 11 years, i knew my whole way around the house, after living here for 11 years. Everyone living here had to be careful where they left things so as i wouldn't bump or trip over them. I had a cane, but i didn't use it at home. I made my way Downstairs into the kitchen to be greeted by my mother.
"Good morning Autumn, I'll be serving breakfast soon."
"Ok, thankyou." i replied making my way to the table. I sat down in my seat as my mother finished making breakfast. When your blind, there's lots of different living arrangements around the house that suits your needs. I had my own specific seat at the table where no one else was allowed to sit, even though it's just my parents and me, it was mainly just for if we get any visitors. It made me feel a bit useless, but it makes everything easier.
I heard the sound of my father coming downstairs as he entered the kitchen. He has this distinct smell that no one else had.
"Goodmorning sweetie, had a nice night?" he asked giving me a cuddle. I didn't know much about parents, but there was one thing i knew, they like cuddles.
"Yes thank you, i did have a nice night" i replied as he sat down next to me. This was how breakfast went everyday. I heard him pull out today's paper. My mother finished preparing breakfast and started serving.
"Here you go sweetie, Pancakes at 12, Apples at 9, juice at 1 and oats at 3." she said specifying the co-ordinates of the food. When i was taught the clock circle, it made eating easier because i would just imagine a clock circle.
"Thankyou." i thanked before digging into breakfast. I was really enjoying it, but little did i know what news my father was going to give me.
"Hey, Autumn, you know, eye surgery just opened up a week ago. They're offering up legal replacement of the eye. You know what that means?"
Yes, i knew what it meant. I had the possibility of being granted sight. Sight, the thing i never had all these years that could be given to me. I didn't know what to say. I sat there thinking but my father spoke up first.
"However, it doesn't have a 100% success rate, the operation could fail and it could be risky."
Upon hearing that, my mind went blank. I could get the surgery, but the costs involved in it and the chance of failure were against me.
"Are you sure this is what i need?" i asked trying to reassure my father that i didn't exactly want to do it.
"Don't you want sight? You haven't had it for all your life i'm sure we can afford it?"
"No, what if it doesn't work?" The odds seemed high, i really don't want to go through with this.
"It will work, I'm willing to take the risk. And your mother is too"
"No, but i'm not willing to take the risk. Atleast not for now." My parents stood there in shock. Normally this would be a birth defected foal's dream. But i wasn't willing to take any risks.
"If... That's what you want sweetie, but it doesn't have to be soon" my mother assured me. "Oh sweet heavens, the time. You should leave now if you want to make it to school"
"Ok, but, i'm still not sure." I said making my way to the front door. I grabbed my cane and slipped the loop around my neck. The cane was designed for ponies to be held in the mouth and the loop is hung around the neck which holstered the cane. My cane made me feel even more useless, but i wasn't any close to learning echo-location. I heard before that there was a blind wonderbolt named Fleetfoot who used echolocation to her advantage, but she's long gone now.
"Goodbye sweetie, Have a great day at school!" my father said as i made my way outside.
"Yeah, a great day indeed" i whispered making my way to school.
It was the middle of recess when i caught up with my friends. Or to be exact, they caught up with me. I was lucky to even have friends. They were both really nice. Ebony was Human, and Ice Twirl was a pony like me. They were both naturally born into their bodies.
"Hey Autumn, Good to see you again!" Ebony said as she gave me a hug.
