The Missing Link

The cries of a newborn baby exited the night time air; the mother, one of a pure alluring night spoke out.

"Tis' a beautiful baby stallion indeed!" She reached out with a joyous smile as she took the child into her arms. She began to feed the baby before her, but worry hit her. The nurse at this time did not see the worry in her eyes for she was crying at the miracle of such a child. Her name was Nurse Redheart and she tended to the princess with the doctor named Doc. When she exited the hospital the next day  She did not expect the trivial background checks and news that would occur sending her mind into a frenzy. Seeing all of this as too much she knew she had to protect her child from the media, and before any evil beings decided to take advantage of such a young youth.

One night when she raised the moon she had prepped her child; it wore a blanket that was made from its bedding's. Using her alicorn magic she appeared before the mirror in the crystal kingdom. Taking a long sigh as she spoke to the mirror. She knew that the portal would only open once every Millennium and this was her chance. She with new-found courage Placed the hood upon her head she walked through becoming human in nature, as she traveled the night time alleys. Finally she arrived at what looked to be a safe place knocking on the door she quieted the child.

"Now now, you shall return one day but not at this time. For thou hast a great destiny before thee!" She frowned as the baby slowly was lulled to sleep.

She arose having heard the beings within shuffling near the door. Running and disappearing in the moonlit night a tear had befallen the child and the mother that left it to a different fate.

As she entered through to her realm she was confronted before the princess of the crystal Kingdom. The mare of the night burst into tears at what she had to do and the guilt that had come with it. She ran up and hugged cadence her niece and was quite upset about everything that had to occur. One night was all she needed to send her child to another world and one night he would arise again. She looked to the sky after the princess of crystal tended to her aunt.

"There there, aunt Luna it will all be alright, I assure you that one day your decision will have been a good one. There is no way that he will return corrupt let alone insane. You know that what you did was right and I respect you for it lets just hope that the spell you placed upon him will return him when the time is right."

Princess Luna replied in kind with a soft saddened tone, "We shall see you again young Arctic, for one day you will return here and we shall see how things come out."

Over in the human dimension the new-found parents were in shock. They saw a baby at their front porch and were always looking to have one. They both picked him up and looked at each other with a smile, "Looks like our dreams have been realized! We finally have a child to call our own. Whoever, gave this little one to us to take care of we promise to keep him safe!" The child smiled in their grasp sleeping soundly as they both lightly laughed gleefully.

20 years later!

Arctic, was walking down the paved walkway down towards his school. He managed to make it into college after all of his hard work. His buddy Miguel, came by behind him tapping him on the shoulder. Which caused him to jump in surprise, "Hey there buddy, you headed to college? Well good news your buddy here has made it in as well wouldn't you know it!"

"You of all people I did not expect to make to college with how long it took you trying to find a job. However, guess he is always full of surprises." He thought to himself.

"So then, what did you score on the entrance exams arctic? I got a c+ Just barely making it into the college!" He put his hands behind his head looking up towards the sky.

Arctic replied, "Well, I aced it Miguel it really wasn't all that hard. You just have a hard time breaking from your A.D.H.D." He laughed lightly teasing his friend.

"Well I have got to get going, I will see you later alright Arctic?" He yelled out and disappeared in the distance.

He laughed to himself at his friends enthusiasm to learn and so he felt that it was about time to hurry on as well. Only to find his skin beginning to glow like a radiating light. His skin color turned to that of fur, patches appearing all over his body until eventually he turned into a humanisc stallion. His eyes widened at his new hands rushing home as fast as he could he found himself looking in the mirror to see someone entirely different. He was the same but had changed into a pony of anthropomorphic nature.

"What in the world is going on here? What am I and what happened to my skin? Where did all this... this fur come from?!"

As he was trying to figure out what was going on he found himself thrown into the mirror by a magical force. His grey form flowing through a portal like path, until eventually he crashed landing straight into a tree on the other end. With a gasp he felt the air leave his body and slowly faded into unconsciousness.

The princess was excited for this day to arrive, the spell was currently taking place. She knew that she would see her child again! She was so ecstatic that she had rushed to the crystal kingdom. However, hours passed and she knew then and there. The spell didn't work the way she had planned. She burst into tears in the arms of the pink princess cadence. Princess cadence spoke out as she looked at the ceiling.

"Where exactly did you get taken to son of the night? What will destiny have in store for you only you can tell. Aunt Luna, lets get you out of here. Everything will be alright he is grown now I am certain that he will be able to take care of himself thanks to your decision. Lets try to find out where he went in the meantime alright?" Patting the dark blue mare she closed the door behind them as the mirror glistened.

The cutie mark crusaders were off on another one of their attempts to get their cutie marks. Atop a nearby tree where Arctic was unconscious the 3 were about to attempt zip-lining. A loud gulp echoed across the forest as the white young filly spoke out.

"Are you sure about this scootaloo? I've never even heard of a pony zip-lining before." She had a bit of hesitation and fear shaking in her voice.

She replied, "Neither have I, but spike told me it was AWESOME!" as she jumped from the large wooden platform of the tree. They all glided down by the rope and equipment until they stop midway. In unison they all speak out "Huh?" As the rope snapped and they began to fall. Tree branches snapping sap engulfing them as they landed straight onto Arctic's lap waking him up abruptly. He coughed a few times before looking around seeing the unknown place. He looked at the 3 fillies and his jaw dropped he took a deep breathe and then...

"Who are you? Where am I? What are you? Why am I here? Where is my world? WHATS GOING ON!?" He shouted all at once in complete confusion and panic at the situation.

The fillies coward back scared of the stallion before them. The white mare wore a purple short skirt that went a bit above her kneecaps. She also had on a white top with frills around the chest making her have a sense of fashion. Her mane was purple in 2 tones.

The other looked like a farm-girl, she had light yellowish fur a red mane and a bow-tie holding it up. Her eyes a deep orange and she wore a plaid top that covered her whole chest and stomach areas. She wore some tight jeans that were shredded a bit at the knees and some steel toed boots.

The last the dark orange filly that looked to have wings, she wore a light black top that hugged her chest and some shredded jean shorts her shoes were in tatters but still usable.

They all spoke out in unison to answer the stallion. "We are the cutie mark crusaders! We are trying anything we can to figure out what our special talents are! We see you don't have a talent either mister? Your in equestria although being a stallion yourself we figured that you would know already. We are mares your a stallion this world is made up of pegasi, Unicorns and earth ponies all alike. Your here because you were born here if anything, and I don't know whats going on at all none of us do we just landed on your lap by accident from failing zip-lining!" They stopped shivering and saw the stallion visibly sigh in an upsetting manner.

He stood up and stared at the fillies mustering up a smile. "Would you 3 please lead me to the closest town and help me get accustomed to this place? I have never been to this world before. In all honesty, I came from another world and arrived here and I need help."

The three got a sparkle in their eyes and spoke out in unison once more. "Cutie mark crusaders aiding extraterrestrials!" They rushed off towards ponyville leading the way for the stallion. He followed behind them unsure of what to expect in this world but braced himself for anything that might occur.

At the library in town twilight was busy reading a new book she got from the canterlot archives. It was related to the son of night. A story about the son of princess Luna which she never knew she had one. However, it was odd because the storybook was shown to be from another dimension so she figured it was from a dimensional rift.

The door behind her opened up to reveal spike with an orange colored mare. She had a stetson hat on with a tight red shirt on that accentuated her figure. Tied up in a knot in the middle it left her stomach bare and some cleavage shown at the top. She wore some tight short shorts that clung to her thighs as she wore some western boots to finish her attire.

Spike was now in his teens as he had grown quite a bit of muscle his spines grew larger. His tail was longer then usual making about half his height decorated with blunt spines. He wore a white collared shirt with some black jeans that rarity made for him.

"Howdy twilight, ah was wonderin' about that letter ya sent me a little bit ago. Ah don't think that a being from another dimension could possibly pop up here anytime at all. If it was the son of the princess of night ah don't know if things will work out for us. He might be evil for all we know if'n he was put into another world that we know hardly nothin' about." She spoke in retaliation to the mares suggestion.

The librarian turned to meet the gaze of applejack she wore a tight button down black top that seemed to just barely keep her chest contained. The skirt she wore was just around her waist with a slit on the side to allow her easier movement around the library. She chewed on the end of a pencil as she spoke out to her friend.

"I just can't help but think this book should not be here, if it is then why was it in the canterlot archives? Surely this must be a story of truth and not fiction like nightmare moon! We must look into this and I can't do this alone today is the day that the spell that would bring him back would occur. Let me get my coat and lets get a move on!"

Putting on her coat next to the door applejack turned to see her sister and her friends panting in exhaustion.

"Applebloom? Sweetie belle, scootaloo? What in tarnation are ya all doin' here? We were just about to head out to look for someone, apparently twilight here thinks that a being from another world will arrive today? We should really-"

She stopped herself short as a grey furred stallion walked up behind them and looked them both in the eyes. His chest visible from his torn attire showing his chizzled features leaving the mares to blush at the sight.

"Well, we just found this stallion out in the woods when we were tryin' to earn our cutie marks for ziplinin' it turns out he isn't from this world or so he says? Maybe he is who ya'll are lookin' for?"

She spoke out as twilight's eyes sparkled with fascination. She looked at his chest and spoke,

" Near your neck that mark do you know what that is?!" She ran into the library and got to work looking through each until she found a symbol. "Its the symbol of royalty! You must be the son of Princess Luna! The one who has control over the night like her, Did you know any of this?!"

The stallion just stood there his jaw dropped from all the information. Trying to rack his brain for anything that could come across as odd he spoke out. "Well all I know was that my parents said that I was adopted into their household when they found me lying on their front porch but I don't know how that relates to-" He was cut off by the librarian.

"Its true! The story is true see applejack I TOLD YOU SO!" She began to flaunt her hips around in a sassy manner as if to gloat before she turned back around. "Well then for now I think that we should let you stay here at the library until you figure out how things work around here."

The farm mare did not take kindly to the way twilight taunted and got a little idea in her head. "Or if'n ya want we could let ya stay in the barn on our farm? Ah am pretty sure that with the hay up there you could find plenty of room to do yer own thing." She smirked at the librarian who just stood there in shock at her suggestion.

They both began to tug at his arms arguing about who got to take him in. This went on for at least 15 minutes before Arctic spoke up.

"Please stop! My arms are hurting and quite frankly I do believe that I would enjoy some fresh air instead of being in a library. Seeing as I lived in one for most of my life back in my world! So I would like to go with this mare." He pointed out to applejack who stuck her tongue out glad to have won the argument.

"Well fine then! My name is twilight sparkle, I am the librarian of this town and princess of magic. Its very nice to meet you sir?" He spoke out to answer her. "Names Arctic, nice to meet you as well Twilight Sparkle. Who might you be miss?" He turned to the orange mare who let a light blush hit her face. "Sorry wasn't payin' attention heh names applejack. You can call me AJ if'n ya want."

With a sigh the librarian went back in letting the door close as the other 2 outside headed to the farm. "So then, I am a prince of night?  Right now I don't know anything about whats going on who I am or where I am? I think I should try to process all this over a nap. I hope you won't mind that, before I learn everything about your place and this town. He waved his hand as if to signify the entirety of ponyville.

She gave a nod, "It'll be alright ah am sure. Just make sure that ya can come by for supper tonight, would be a shame if'n ya didn't get to meet the family. Anyways, here is the barn enjoy your stay up the ladder to your right is your room. Adjust it the way ya like and then ah will see ya later." She waved before pushing her stetson hat down to hide a bit of blush covering her face. "What a nice lookin' stallion however, ah think ah should wait before anythin' would be a shame if'n he wound up bein' evil like ah thought." She muttered to herself as she disappeared.

He headed up the barn ladder within and looked at the very spacious area around him, moving a few hay bales around and finding an old bed beneath. He laid down and looked up at the ceiling trying to grasp his thoughts, until eventually sleep grabbed hold of him and he slowly drifted to sleep.

As things were getting closed up for the night a big red stallion noticed the male up in the barn loft. He heard from applejack and decided to take a look, giving a smirk he headed back down.  "That stallion better not get any ideas of my sister or he is in for one big fight!" He spoke to himself as he turned the lights off and closed the doors.
