It was a normal day in Equestria and more importantly it was the last day of the school year. All the teenage mares and stallions were gathered in their classroom at Manehattan high, they found their seats and began to talk silently but excitedly.
Everyone was excited to get to go home that day after class and not come back the next day even though the school day had just started.
After a few more minutes the late bell rang and in walked the classes teacher and with him came the complete and respectful silence of the class room.
The teacher walked to his desk and took off his brown fedora setting it on the well used hat rack in the corner behind his desk.
The teacher then sat and said.
"Good morning class" to which the entire class replied
"Good morning Professor. Cal"
The teacher's name was Cynderic Cal and today he wore his usual black business suit and pants and his red tie and as always he had his brown fedora with him although he did not wear it in his classroom.
Cynderic had black fur and black and white mane that was slicked back in its usual tidiness.
The black unicorn flipped his teacher's book open to the appropriate page and read to himself what the days lesson plans where.
When he finished he stood and walked to the chalkboard.
As he began to write the main lesson on the chalk board he asked a question.
"Does anypony here know what the theory of Cold Fusion is?"
A Hand shot up.
"Yes Prism"
The mare known as Regal Prism stood, she had chestnut fur and a sky blue mane.
"Sir the answer to your question is the theory that fusion may occur at room temperature"
It was not a question but a straight confident answer as Cynderic had taught his students.
"Very good Prism you may sit down" Prism sat.
Cynderic went on with his lesson on cold of fusion.
Finally when the lunch bell rang his first class of the day departed for their lunches.
The rest of the day went as planned and Cynderic left the school at the end of the day once he was finished with his paper work.
He felt relieved to step out of the school and begin his trip home.
Halfway to his house a runaway stampede of cows came bustling towards him.
Stunned purely by shock and confusion as to why cows where in a large city such as Manehattan.
Cynderic tried to jump out of the way but landed just short of safety and was stampeded by thirty three cows leaving him on the road, Injured and unconscious.
200 Years later - Cynderic opens his eye to see the what at first he interpreted as heaven but was in fact the inside of his hospital room.
"Too White in here it hurts my eyes"
Cynderic complained before realizing he could see out of only one eye.
His hands moved over and investigated the strange eye patch before lifting it and feeling the whole that was now there.
gasping Cynderic realized In a sudden shock that this was not a dream and his eye was indeed gone.
Cynderic thought back to all the things that could have caused this and he remembered getting trampled and the sudden popping sound he heard after a cow had stepped on his head right before he lost consciousness.
As Cynderic began to try and accept his new condition and that he was now considered lame he observed the room he was in with more care.
He learned that he was not in fact in a hospital room but he was instead in what appeared to be in its essence an empty white room accept for a heart monitor and what he had awoke within which he figured was some sort of pod and not at all a hospital bed.
As Cynderic continued to explore he found a door and opened it, on the other side was a plain looking room with faded light blue paint and a few chairs, perhaps a waiting room of some sort.
Once Cynderic walked in the door shut behind him and locked itself, turning on his hooves Cynderic noticed that what he had thought was a wall was actually a type of one way see thru glass that only looked like a wall on the other side.
Was he being observed?
Cynderic had to find out, as a science teacher Cynderic loved to solve problems but he hated the unknown and thoughts of what he may or may not know would often keep him up at night, Cynderic considered this a small flaw but an annoying one.
Cynderic found a old and musty looking pair of clothes and replaced his hospital style gown with them.
Cynderic was also pleased to find his favorite brown fedora that he wore almost everywhere.
Cynderic continued for days to search the strange facility he had woken within.
He was now not only driven by curiosity but also hunger and thirst for he had found barely anything to eat or drink thus far and as a physical science teacher he was well aware what could happen if he didn't find something to sustain himself soon.
Cynderic finally came to a different door than the ones he had seen, this one was made of metal and glass like most doors leading in and out of buildings.
This glass though was to dirty to see through and Cynderic was to curious to wait so he simply heaved the door open which took far more force than he originally thought such a small door would take. on the other side Cynderic's thoughts stopped dead in their tracks as had Cynderic as well.
Outside was Manehattan but instead of the normal bustling city he was used to he was confronted by destroyed and collapsing buildings and crumbled masses of what had at once been houses.
The rubble looked to be hundreds of years old with wear and tear.
Cynderic fell to his knees before the massive fallen horsehead statue that had at one time sat upon one of the largest buildings in Manehattan.
The once beautiful statue was now crumbling in decay right before the building Cynderic had just exited into what was once in his mind a glorious city.
As tears rolled down his furry cheeks a single line seemed to be drawn across the sky, Cynderic barely noticed it at first but after a while he noticed it had changed directions.
It took Cynderic a moment to comprehend what he was looking at, in the dark dust colored sky a single rainbow had appeared and it caused even more tears to roll down Cynderic's cheeks.
The rainbow had moved in multiple directions as if the atmosphere and hit the light particles but then Cynderic gasped as the rainbow curved and flew towards him smashing into the ground in front of him with a long crash.
A tall and lean mare with an overconfident posture stepped out of the dust as if the speed and impact that she must have hit the ground at had not bothered her in the least.
she was a cyan blue pegasus with a rainbow mane and tail and had an extremely athletic body and was wearing what the wonderbolts would have worn.
she stepped closer and said in a very confident if not commanding voice.
"Who are you and how did you get out here?"
"My name is Cynderic Cal I am a Physical Science teacher at the Manehattan High School"
"I hate to be the one to tell you this but not any more"
This confused Cynderic so he asked "What do you Mean by not any more?"
"You just woke up in a pod looking thing right?"
"Yes how did you..."
"That means you were cryonically preserved for a later date like me. My name is Rainbow Dash by the way."
"Nice to meet you Rainbow Dash now if I might ask what happened to manehattan?"
"All out nuclear war I was told."
Cynderic had absolutely no words for that answer. It shook him to his core. He had never guessed that any nation within or outside of Equestria would ever need to seek war on it. How could such a thing have happened?
Rainbow Dash seeing his confusion decided to explain further.
"Celestia lost her mind when somepony from the Zebra's land denied her idea's and insulted her all at once, both of these sent Celestia on a serious warpath. Even if her own ponies where in the way she would cut them down just to kill the enemy. If you weren't a pony like me or you then you died and that was that. Of course the zebra's and the griffins who decided to side with the zebra's decided to fight back and eventually Celestia was fed up and nuked them and that's when the war started, when some of them still survived she personally left canterlot to murder them."
"What happened to Celestia?"
"Luna had to put her down herself, she was never quite the same after that and with all the grief she couldn't keep up with her duties and for a long while it would be sunny out for days or weeks and vise versa for night."
Cynderic was for the first time in his life completely silenced while still conscious. How could any of this have happened? It felt like he had left Manehattan only days before and yet here he was in the so called 'Future' and he had no idea what to do. he fell to his knees again and everything seemed to crash down on him at once and he lifted up his head and cried out.
"WHY FAUST WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS"
