Equestrian Space Program
First Contact
Load Full StoryTwilight, former apprentice to Princess Celestia, hero of Equestria, former bearer of the element of magic, and the newest princess, was nearly bouncing with joy. Tonight at midnight a large meteor shower would light up the night sky. She had finished her Princess duties early and had set up her personal telescope on the highest point of her castle to enjoy the spectacle. The only thing that really bothered her was that so few other ponies were going to even notice it. Most ponies took no interest in the announcement that the uncommon celestial event would occurs in the skies over Ponyville, and of those who did take interest few of them were willing to go through the trouble of staying awake through the night to see it. She sighed to herself wishing that more ponies would take interest in the amazing phenomenons of the night.
She readied her quill and parchment, and prepared to make last second adjustments to her telescope as the midnight approached. Just as planned by Luna the sky begin to have streaks of light stretch across it. Twilight tried her best to follow one of the streaks with her telescope so to get more details on the shooting stars, but they would go far to fast and last for only a moment. She gave up on the whole idea of examining them after a few minutes and instead backed up from her telescope to look at the entire event with her own eyes. While the telescope could show her a close up veiw of one of the shooting stars she wouldnt see the many others that burned up quietly in the sky. After a few minutes the meteor shower slowed to a stop and while no scientific data had come from her observations she still considered the endeavor worth the lack of sleep. Twilight began to put away the items she had brought out with her and go to bed, when she happened to take a final glancing look of the sky. Twilight took a double take at what she saw, for another shooting star had appeared over the Everfree forest but was traveling remarkably slower then any of the others she had seen that night. Twilight squeeled with delight at the opportunity that had been given to her, she quickly reset the telescope and prayed to Celestia, and Luna that the meteor would last. Amazingly when she peered into the telescope and zoomed in on the falling star, it did last. Twilight could not believe her luck, the meteor was traveling so slowly that she could easily follow it, and it was so well defined that she could make out its appearance. She quickly jotted down notes.
Object is traveling slowly, less then 3000 feet per second.
Is lasting a remarkable amount of time. Over 3 4 to be determined amount of minutes.
Seems to be cylindrical in shape with a tapered end at the front.
Object seems to be increasing in size as i
Twilight brought herself out of note taking mode as she realized what she had just noted. The shooting star was getting bigger, but as that is impossible she came to a blood chilling conclusion. It was getting closer. If a large chunk of rock hurtled into the ground nearby ponyville, even at its relatively low speed, it would spell disaster. Twilight quickly calculated where the large junk of rock was going to impact and when. Edge of the everfree, in less then two minutes. Twilight took flight towards the, soon to be, ground zero. She had to stop, or slow down the meteor no matter what the cost, the town and her friends depended on her. As she flew towards the Everfree she noticed that the object was continuing to slow down as it fell, to a point beyond the explanation of air resistance. When she landed she immediately charged a levitation spell to slow the objects decent, when suddenly her concentration was broken as the object stopped glowing orange but instead shined bright white lights down on her, and a burst of heated wind blew her away from the impact site.
Twilight got to her feet and watched in shock as a white cylindrical object descended slowly from the sky with a jet of blue flame shorting at the ground. The objects main body was a cylinder however many other odds and ends poked out of it, like shark like fins, cubes or much smaller rounded cylinders. Twilight had to look away as the object descended the last 20 feet due to the amount of smoke, and the bright light given off by the a cone shaped object at the bottom of it. Suddenly the sound of the flame stopped and twilight heardbthe sound of scrapping and a loud thud. Twilight looked at the object as the smoke cleared to find the object on the ground with strange thin legs she had not seen before and the cone like object separated from the rest of it and laying on the ground. Suddenly a ladder somehow extended from just under a small hatch halfway up the strange white and black object and touched the ground. Twilight realized what was going on, she was about to make first contact with an advanced alien civilization from another world. Her mind filled with fear and excitement as she imagined all the possible outcomes and all the things she could learn from such an intelligent species. Would they be friendly? Whould they try to conquer the planet with advanced weaponry? Or have they come to spread peace and knowledge? Twilight held her breath and prepared for anything as the hatch hissed open.
Suddenly a small white form with a red stripe that went across the center of its head, plummeted to the ground from the hatch. Suddenly a second form with a yellow stripe fell and landed on the first, that form was followed by a third with a blue stripe, and a fourth with an orange stripe fell from an even higher point of the craft into the pile. Twilight watched as the four stuby little bipedal creatures slowly got back up and the first three smacked the large round head of the fourth with their minotaur like hands, then while the third and fourth begin smacking each other, the second one looked at the cone shaped object that fell off the bottom of the craft, and finally the first one moved a few feet away from the cylindrical craft pulled out a small rod that quickly expanded and sprouted a small yellow flag with a variety of geometric shapes. The first creature then stuck the flag into the ground and posed placing its hands on its hips. The third and fourth looked at the first for a moment and then pulled out flags of their own and fought each other using them like swords. Twilight had no idea how to react to what she was seeing, surely an intelligent race that traveled the vastness of space all the way to Equestria would have the professionalism to not fight amongst eacother upon landing on an alien world, or to actually use the ladders they are provided. She just stood out in the open while the creatures remained completely oblivious. The lights on the craft turned off revealing the green faces of the creatures within the white suits. Each new discovery made the aliens more and more foreign and strange. Another two forms with green stripes climbed out of the craft calmly on the segmented ladder the fifth one reached the ground and noticed Twilight immediately, and Twilight was able to see its face. It had a large cylindrical head that was the size of its own torso and two big eyes that scanned over her with intelligence. The fifth one said something Twilight couldn't understand and pointed at her. All six of the creatures then faced her with interest with exception of the fourth one that hit the third one on the head one final time. An awkward few minutes followed as the six aliens stared at the purple alicorn mare. Twilight noticed that the first four aliens had lazy eyes similar to Derpy the mail mare, while the two with the green stripes had normal like eyes. The first creature broke the silence by shouting out with a big smile on its face. "Aloh!" It then proceeded to walk straight up to Twilight, grabbed her front right hoof with its stuby gloved hands and shook it. "Em tse Jeb."
