1st Night: Reading the Fine Print
11:52 P.M.
The night of Ponyville had a rather cool breeze in the air. The stars in the sky shined brightly and the moon was so bright, that one could see the grounds they walked on. Despite my desire to take to the nearest club to let loose my daily inhibitions via a few hard ciders and a dance with a cute mare, I knew that I couldn't.
Unfortunately, I had gotten into a bit of trouble with the Flim-Flam Casino down in Appleloosa. I had started to play a few games of blackjack, just for recreation. But then when my hand got hot, I decided to press my luck. Before long, I was staring at the big prize, drooling of all the bits I could've raked in. But I had pulled one card too many. And just like that, my night went downhill. I started to play game after game, hoping to get my winnings anywhere close to where I had them. But I only managed to get myself swallowed in debt.
So here I am, knocking on the door to Sugarcube Corner, donning my new uniform for my night shift. What am I wearing this uniform for exactly? Well, I read in the paper that there was a job opening for a security guard at Sugarcube Corner. And much to my relief, they pay a solid one-twenty every night. The only thing is that I get paid weekly. But one-twenty times seven is a stacked eight-hundred forty bits. That's almost a thousand bits just to sit on my plot for six hours. Sure, I'd lose some sleep, but how bad could that be?
Knocking on the door, I waited for the owner of the establishment to let me inside. Thankfully, I didn't have to wait for long.
"Oh, hello there, Caramel. How was your day?" Mr. Cake, my employer, asked me.
"Well, it could've been better, but I'm positively chipper about this job."
"Great! Come on in!"
As I walked into the darkened bakery, I saw that much of the establishment was already dark, save a few lights above the doors. When I looked around, I saw that the tables were set up nice and neat. The chairs were evenly aligned under the tables and there were party hats lined up in rows. The stage on the far side of the room had it's curtains closed. Walking even further into the back, I could see a room with a 'Do Not Enter' sign written in heavy stencil plastered on the door. Though the sight of it made me a little uneasy, I dismissed it as nothing more than pure speculation. Finally, our brief tour ended as he pointed to a chair in the center of a small room.
"Well, here we are. I know it's a bit... cozy, but I guarantee that you'll have very little problems with your shift."
"Thanks." I said, entering into the room. I took a look around, seeing a small generator on the side of the chair. On the seat was a small tablet that I assumed was connected to the security cameras. Honestly, I wondered if it could play games.
"Now are you sure that you don't need anything?" Mr. Cake asked me politely.
"No thanks. I'll pick it up from here, sir."
"Good to hear. I'll see you at six."
12:00 A.M.
While he walked off, I had taken notice of a set of buttons beside the doors to either side of the room. One was labeled 'door' while the other was labeled 'light'. Of course, I understood what door meant, but I just didn't see why there was a need for two light switches. When I had pressed the light button, I could see that the area outside of the door had lit up. Though the light had flickered slightly, I had figured it was an electrical error. When I had released the button, I saw that the light had went off as well.
In all honesty, I was surprised that this kind of establishment that raked in so much money on a daily basis couldn't even afford something so trivial as a rehashing of the faulty electrical system. But at least the doors were magicite-reinforced, meaning that any magical creature, no matter how strong, won't be able to get through those doors. And being that all ponies had magical properties, that only meant that they wouldn't be able to break in. Yet I'm left questioning the practicality of having windows when you need magicite doors.
Or better yet, why would they even need magicite doors?
*PLOP*
When I had turned around, I saw a rather unsettling sight. A scroll had appeared on the desk of the workstation. I looked both ways, trying to see if I could find the reason this scroll could appear from nowhere. After a bit of thought, I had remembered a certain princess of ours that had a dragon that could make scrolls appear and disappear from smoke. I guess that someone, probably a certain unicorn had sent me a letter.
Oh gosh, I hope it was a love confession.
If anything, I had always had the hots for Twilight Sparkle. She was the innocent bookworm that the town had come to know and love. Now she was the princess of friendship. If she had noticed me now, then I could easily say that I had a princess as my secret admirer. Eagerly reaching for the scroll and undoing the red seal, I opened it.
Unfortunately, I dismayed at the realization that it was from another pony.
Dear chief replacement,
It has come to my attention that you are taking the job that I once had in your place. I offer you my sincerest congratulation on your success. Once again stating, I had worked in that very same office before you. Now I know that running a shift this late can be a tad taxing on the mind, but I'll assure you that you're going to be just fine.
Now, to throw a bit of focus on what they probably haven't told you already. The greeting is pretty much a simple means to avoid any legal ramifications. I'm more than certain that they just gave you your uniform and shoved you in that room, so allow me to give you a more proper welcome.
Welcome to Sugarcube Corner Sweetery, where dreams of lollipop and bubblegum come true, fun for the whole family and you. Sugarcube Corner Sweetery is not responsible for damage, property, or pony on discovering damage or undernourishment has occurred. If worker is unable to be found or found unconscious, a report of missing pony will be filed within ninety days after the floors are cleaned with bleach, the carpets have been replaced, etc.
Now I know it might sound bad, but there's really nothing to worry about. The nightly occupant, known to the town as Pinkie Pie can be a bit quirky at night, but do I blame her? No. If I was forced to sing those same, silly songs seven days a week, go out and save Equestria and come home to not having a sex life, then I'd be a bit irritable at night too. So keep in mind that she does have a special place in the hearts of foals and that she deserves a little respect, as well as privacy. Right?
Right then. Just be aware that she can wander around for a bit, also that she does invite her friends from time to time. They usually come around this time of the year to spend the week or so there. Of course, it's that time of the year. If you've been in health class, then I'm sure that you know what I'm talking about. So they hole themselves inside of the one place that's filled to the brim with chocolate. They used to allow the girls to stay around during the day, but there was the kitchen incident around thirty-two moons back. To think they had to explain to the foals what one of the girls and Carrot were doing was a special type of hug.
Now, concerning your only real safety issue at this time. If any of these girls happens to see you, they'll probably drag you out of your chair and move you to the upstairs room, where they'll have turns of rutting your brains out. Sounds great but it really isn't. With the estrus season being in full-swing, they tend to get a little excited and will pretty much try out any sort of devious fantasy that they so desire. Again, it sounds nice but then there would be the lack of concern for your health as they repeatedly ride you dry. Eventually, they will start to get a little out of control and cause some significant bruising and even a few fractured bones. Also, they'll be switching out from time to time. It's not easy trying to please six heat-ridden mares at once.
By the time your shift ends, you'll be in a mess of chocolate sauce, whipped cream, saliva, semen and vaginal fluids. Not quite the most glamorous thing to bathe in before you head out in the morning. Yeah, they really don't tell you these things up front but I'm more than sure that you'll make it past the first night. Best of luck to you, check those cameras and close those magicite doors whenever you absolutely need to. That generator by your chair is your only source of power, so you gotta conserve that. Gotta save that power! Alright, goodnight.
I stopped reading the scroll, looking at the words on the paper in mild horror. As soon as I placed the scroll down, I immediately ran to the chair, picked up the tablet and started checking the rooms for anything that resembled a pony walking towards my direction. Laying my camera down, I looked at the analog clock on the side of the wall.
1:00 A.M.
I have five hours left. There's no need for me to get worked up. After all, this is a bakery. They should be able to have all the chocolate in Equestria to soothe their nerves. I should be fine. No need to worry about this on the first night. I mean, I can just simply talk to Mr. Cake in the morning about the additional details. Perhaps I need to check the cameras again.
Left Hall A
A dark hall that has a open doorway to the event hall is all I can see, though I can't really see that much. These cameras aren't very efficient for security purposes. Why don't they ever upgrade this stuff? Either way, there's nothing down there. Next camera.
Right Hall A
Another dark hall that also opens into the event hall. Yet again, a faulty camera that glitches every once and a while. I don't like how this is going to be a daily thing. Next camera.
Left Hall B
The hall shows only darkness in the distance. Thought if I had to guess, that was the hall I took to get in here. So in other words, if I take this tablet with me and walk outside... Nah, that would be a bad idea. I wouldn't even know if one of those mares would've snuck into the security room. By the time I'd come back, one of them would be waiting for me.
If any of these girls happens to see you, they'll probably drag you out of your chair and move you to the upstairs room...
You know... I should really be looking at the rest of these cameras.
Right Hall B
The camera shows the same dark hallway, only this time, I could see the little bit of light flooding into the back area. Apparently, this camera is set a little further back than the one on the left hall. So it's safe to assume that both B-Hall cameras are the halls just outside of this room. Okay, next camera.
Event Hall
This is the same room with all of the party hats neatly set up in rows. Again, the camera's really glitchy so I can't make heads or tails of things. At the very least, the room seems to be a little brighter than the others. Let's carry on.
Event Hall Stage
Nothing but curtains. I don't see a thing this way except for the microphone stands bunched together in the far corner. Next camera.
Register Counter
It makes sense that this one would have to be the best camera around. Despite the fact that it's a little grainy in visuals, it still gives out a pretty decent picture. Just before the register, there's a sign that says 'On break.' I suppose that they normally put that up there when the register isn't in use. The doors that lead into the kitchen are as still as a bump on a log. No activity here. Might as well carry on to the next camera.
Kitchen
Just great. I went from what was probably the best camera in this place to the worst. All I'm getting is a black screen that says audio only. I guess this one's dead. Next!
Supply Closet
Well... I can clearly say one thing. These posters on the wall may seem kid friendly in the day, but the shadows it produces in these grainy cameras makes them seem nightmarish. I've seen that poster outside just earlier today and now, I'm just scared to look at it. Aside from that, it just seems like a bunch of cleaning supplies, a mop here, a broom there, a vibrator on the...
...and that she deserves a little respect, as well as privacy. Right?
Vibrator... oh no. Next!
Stairs
This one makes sense. It makes all of the sense. Have a camera that I would probably need the most and have it offline. Same situation as the kitchen, nothing up on the visual feed. Not even the audio is up and running.
*Beep*
"What was that?" I asked, jumping up as I tried to identify the source of the sound. I looked over to see a small box that had a series of light on top of it. I guess that must be the generator that goes to the magicite doors. I seem to have a decent sixty seven percent cha-
SIXTY SEVEN PERCENT!?
That makes no sense! I didn't use the doors at all. Not only did I not use the doors, but I also kept the lights to a minimum. In fact, I only cut the lights on just once! Why would this be happening?
Calm down. Nothing is going to happen. There's no reason for concern. They probably just forgot to charge it all the way since the last pony who was here. Yeah. Let's go with that. Now let's see what time it is.
2 A.M.
And now I'm freaked. Just earlier, that clock had more than just one number. I just saw the minutes on that clock and now I can't even see that. The only think I know is that it's two in the morning.
3 A.M.
Correction, three in the morning. If this is some way to play with one's mind while trying to avoid being in a puddle of Celestia-knows-what, it was working. I needed to look at my cameras again to see if anything had changed.
Stairs
Once again, no feed. Lets look somewhere else.
Register Counter
The counter seems as it usually is. The doors are swinging...
Just be aware that she can wander around for a bit...
Why did I even read that letter? That just ruined my whole entire night reading that thing. Now I'm paranoid as all Tartarus. But then again, there wouldn't be a logical explanation for such heavy... wooden... doors to be... Kitchen?
Kitchen
I'm currently holding my coltish squeals to myself as I hear the rattling of pots and pans sounding off in the feed. I hated how I couldn't see anything. I could at least be somewhat comfortable knowing that there was a video feed of what was going on in the kitchen. But instead, all I hear is the sound of pots and pans ringing out in the room.
"Hmm... Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate..." She sang as heard her rummaging through the kitchen.
"Gotta have my chocolate..." The sounds of the pots and pans banging in the kitchen seemed to have intensified as she continued her raid of what I assumed to be the fridge. I couldn't see who it was, but based off of the voice, I could only assume that it was Ponyville's premier party planner, Pinkie Pie.
"Some for the girls..." The metallic ambiance seemed to have slowed down to a halt as I heard the slam of a padded door.
"Meh, I think that's enough."
Obviously, she definately has what she was looking for. Let's get a visual of her and see where she's headed to next.
Register Counter
The doors swung wide open to reveal the pink puffy mane of the party pony. As she emerged from the kitchen, I could see her carrying several large tubs of chocolate ice cream. I could also see that she had carried a few bowls and spoons to share with her friends, if they were even here.
"Ooh! This is going to be so much fun!"
I guess she's going back upstairs.
Suddenly, she placed all of the ice cream she was carrying on the counter. All of the bowls and spoons soon found rest along side the frosted treats, as she glanced at the camera.
"Hi, mister security guard! I'm ready for my close-up!"
"Nope!" I dropped the pad and immediately reached out for the buttons to close the door. As one shut, I reached for the other one. Finally sealing myself inside of the room, I popped back into the seat, nervously checking my camera.
Register Counter
Only the ice cream and the bowls she carried remains.
I dropped the pad as I tried to take in deep breaths. I was not going to screw up here. I didn't need to screw up here. This was the first night. It was supposed to be easy. I wasn't supposed to be chased down so early. This wasn't fair!
*knock knock knock knock knock*
The magicite door to my right sounded as I clutched onto my security pad for dear life. As I looked back down to the battery, I could see that the usage icon below the charge number was steadily on orange, with a red bar appearing whenever the overhead light flickered.
So that means that the light is running off of the generator as well. I'm hoping she leaves sometime soon. I can't afford to keep these doors closed.
The knocking stopped. I still clutched onto my seat as if I was some sort of cornered mouse. Correction, I was a cornered mouse. I didn't want to open these doors because the only thing I would get is a pink mare dragging me to the upstairs room. And that was the last thing I needed to happen to me. I can't afford to work with a broken-anything. So I turned on the lights. As I did, the window to the outside showed that she was very much still sitting in the window, with a big, bright smile as she pressed her face against the glass.
"HI!" She shouted through the glass with a high-pitched voice. I remained silent.
"Come on, silly! I just wanna say hello and welcome you to your first night on the job!"
"T-t-t-t-th... thanks..." I stuttered as I shook in my chair.
"Come ooooooon! Aren't you going to let me in?"
I shook my head rapidly, not even wanting to speak. My heart was pounding out of my chest as she started to knock against the window.
"Pleeeeeeease? Pretty, pretty pleeeease? I promise that I won't bite... Unless you're into that kind of thing, which in that case I would bite you. But only if you bite me back. I love being bit, especially on the ears. When I get bit on the ear, I usually can't control myself. And then when I-"
"No thanks..." I finally spoke up, hoping that she'd leave before these doors started to drain the power out. My eyes slowly wandered towards the usage meter as well as the amount left.
So far, I was on fourty-two percent.
"We have ice creeeeeaaaam!" She sang-sung as she knocked on the door again.
"I'm not hungry." I'm lying, I'm craving a midnight snack myself.
The pink pony just stared for moments on end, watching for me to lean towards either door so that I could save some of my energy for later. I wasn't going to fall for that one, especially if she was going to make a move and run down the hall and come on back. She was already faster than what I had anticipated. I was lucky to get those doors down in enough time.
While she stared at me with large pools of sapphire, I tried to come up with a plan to get her to leave. If I tried being offensive, then she'd turn it into some sort of joke, then we'd definitely be here all night. If I tried to be immodest... well that would be adding fuel to a flame that's already out of control. If I ask her to get me a snack, she'd leave to the kitchen and let me open the doors for a little bit. But then I'd have to close them right back when she was just down the hall... snack... THAT'S IT!!!
"Um... I think the ice cream you left out is melting." I stated as I looked back on the camera, seeing the tubs of desert frosting over beside the register.
The pink mare drew out a long gasp as her eyes expanded in horror. "Uh-oh. Be right back!"
In the fraction of a second, she bolted down the hall, leaving me to the room alone. I waited for a while before I could let myself summon the courage to open those doors. But considering that my battery was quickly draining, I needed to make that choice as soon as yesterday.
With a remorseful gulp, I hit both of the doors, letting my battery usage go back down to green. At least for now, I was safe. I just hope that I don't get any more visitors any time soon. Please let my shift be over.
4 A.M.
For some odd reason, I haven't been able to see much happening as I check the cameras. But I did discover a bit of news in this past hour, the more I check my cameras, the more battery I use. So not only the overhead light was using energy, but so was the light outside of the doors, the door themselves and the camera. I'm using power just sitting in here.
But I really need this one-twenty. I can't afford to get sued. I needed to make my money. At least it could be worse, I could only be making one-twenty for the entire week. That's literally four bits by the hour instead of the twenty I get now.
5 A.M.
Not much has happened since Pinkie decided to pay me a visit. It seems that her friends have stayed upstairs as well. None of the cameras have shown much change since the last time I've looked into them. Though that just makes me all the more uneasy.
It's too quiet.
I guess eating all of that chocolate ice cream must've done wonders on their heat cycle. Being that chocolate can be a major mood enhancer. But then again, what mood does it enhance? Does it fuel their further desire to drag me out of this room and do whatever they want to do with me or does it keep them calm? More specifically, why does it have to be chocolate ice cream? Why not chocolate sauce or chocolate cake? Why not...
By the time your shift ends, you'll be in a mess of chocolate sauce, whipped cream, saliva, semen and vaginal fluids. Not quite the most glamorous thing to bathe in before you head out in the morning...
I wonder how my battery is doing.
Um... I feel very uneasy. The battery has a eighteen percent charge on it. If that mare hadn't made me keep my doors closed, It would be a whole lot higher than this. Oh well. I can make it. It's not like I need to close my doors anytime soon. I'm almost done with my shift. I guess I could give these cameras one last look before the top of the hour.
Event Hall
The chairs and the hats are still neatly arranged. I suppose that nothing would be happening in here. Next camera.
Supply Room
Well, that creepy looking picture is still there. The mops and brooms haven't even changed up. The only thing that seems to be missing was the vibrator. I suppose that Pinkie must've taken it with her. Next camera.
Stairs
Why did I even look at this one? Next.
Register Counter
Not much going on here. The register still has the 'on break' sign in front of it. Not really much to look at here either.
*clip-clop clip-clop*
THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE SILENCE!
Left Hall B
I don't see much except for just a dark hallway. Perhaps I'm hallucinating. Besides, I'm more than certain that those girls have went to bed by no-
*WHOSH*
A shadow flashed right past the camera and down the hall, towards my direction.
"That's bad! That's really bad! I gotta close this door!" I mumbled to myself as I reached out to hit the button. As my hoof reached it, I felt something slap it away. When I looked at the doorway, there stood a cyan-colored pegasus mare with a rainbow mane. She held my hoof away as she slowly made her way towards me. She was also known to be Ponyville's fastest flier and best weather mare, Rainbow Dash.
What do I do? I can't go out like this! This is the first night and I haven't even gotten a chance to get paid yet! I can't fail on the first day of the job.
"And what do we have here?" She asked with a scratchy, high-pitched voice. She looked at me, smiling as she stood over me, or rather hovered as her wings kept her suspended in mid-air. "Pinkie didn't tell me that there was a new security guard."
I jumped out of my chair, trying to make a dash for the other door. Unfortunately, she was too fast for me to beat as she zipped across the room, closing the door before I could escape. Almost frozen in place, I watched as she casually flew over to the other door and closed it.
"What are you going to do to me?" I asked, starting to back myself under the desk, somehow hoping that it would offer me some sort of protection from my speedy captor.
She looked at me, measuring me up and down as her forelegs folded against her chest. She seductively bit her lip, humming with approval in her tone. "I have a few ideas in mind."
"Please don't hurt me." I squeaked, shaking under the desk as she landed on all fours.
Giving me a bedroom-stare, she licked her lips and threw her hooves at me, trying to grasp at me from under the desk. "Come on out! Quit being such a wuss!"
Like hell. I was not going to walk out of this room with any sort of bruising or broken limbs. I needed to stave her off until-
*Riiiiiiiiiiiiiing*
Both she and I looked at the clock on the wall.
6 A.M.
I jumped out from under my desk, running to the analog clock as if it had offered me some sort of miracle, which it did. I actually made it to dawn without being dragged up the stairs and rutted into a small crater by six mares. While I victoriously marched around the office, Rainbow Dash angrily flicked her tail as she stared at me with discontent in her eyes. Despite her angry demeanor, I chose not to care as I taunted her on her failure to capture me.
"Ha! In your face!" I shouted to her, pointing a hoof to her.
She rolled her eyes and shrugged as she started to wear a devious smile. "Okay."
Before I could question her sudden mood swing, she grabbed me and threw me against the chair with significant force. While I tried to mentally process how quickly I ended up in this chair again, she jumped in front of me, connecting her muzzle with mine. I was still in shock as her tongue briefly brushed against mine. Her wings flapped as she pulled away from me, a smile ever-present upon her lips.
"You got lucky. But that was just the first night. And to make it worse, you still got caught." She stated, flying away from me. "Just make sure you don't make it any easier for me. I like the thrill of a challenge." She said cockily before leaving nothing but a trail of rainbow behind her.
Somehow that didn't make these upcoming nights all that much more alluring. But I needed my check to pay off this debt I owe. So I guess it's all for the best that I didn't end up in a puddle of fluids. Anyways, my night shift is over and I need to go home and rest before I get back to my crappy day shift. That debt isn't going to pay for itself.
*squeak*
As I walked forward, I felt something roll under my hoof. Though I was off-balance for a brief moment, I stumbled to regained my composure and noticed what I had stepped on.
Trust me when I say that I really didn't want to know what I had stepped on at this point. If I could turn back time and prevent myself from looking down, just to make myself feel better for the other nights I had to work here, I would.
The object that I nearly tripped over was the vibrator that was sitting in the storage room.
Something tells me that Rainbow Dash had something more sinister in mind...
...I really didn't wanna work here anymore.
