The Hunt For Monsters
Chapter 1: The Plan
Load Full StoryNext ChapterDear Princess Celestia and Princess Luna,
To fight monsters we need monsters. I never thought I'd utter these words, let alone write them down on a note to you two but recent events have proven that our own methods of handling this matter have been futile. If not plain out useless. I believe you will agree with me when I say, that friendship wasn't meant to handle this kind of darkness. Even the ponies know this. Me and my friends have come into confrontation with other ponies who are in a state of paranoia and panic that they ask why haven't we handled protected them or their love ones from this evil. Every time we try to explain our reasons, they cut us off with accusations of lies and they wouldn't be wrong as we have to nothing but lies, justifiable maybe, but lies none the less. The ponies are beginning to lose faith in us and some have even begun to question both you and Luna's leadership. They believe you two don't care about them, which we know is not true but what this should show you Princesses, the same way It showed me, is that fear is beginning to cloud ever ponies judgment, if this continues than I fear that it will only be a matter of time before this horrible situation becomes worst. If that's even possible. But I believe we must now fight fire with fire. Since our options have run out and this is has always been a last resort that we knew, we'd have to consider but always hope it would never come to, considering the events that have happened using monsters to hunt down our own seems like the most necessary, if not logical move to make. Should you and Luna choose to take this option into consideration you must find a force that can look into the abyss, without flinching, see the horrors of these monsters and not be phased, and laugh death of as a joke. They must be worse than our own monsters, but still able to control. I truly wish it wouldn't have had to come to this, whatever choice you make, I know you'll both have everyponies best interest in mind. And I will stand by your sides no matter what.
Your fellow Princess, Twilight Sparkle.
Celestia finished the letter, than turned to look towards the distance of Ponyville. She looked at her sister, Luna and than back at Ponyville, pondering on Twilight's note. The choice she and Luna would have to make. Luna looked at her sister, still staring at Ponyville. She could see it in Celestia's face, she was thinking on what to do, same as Luna who wanted to hear her sisters opinion on the choice, that had to be made. Luna knew that her and Celestia, had to make this choice together.
"What is thou thinking sister?" Luna asked, breaking the silence.
"If the choice we make for our little ponies will help or make matters worse." Celestia answered, continuing to look at Ponyville. "I wish we had more options."
"I do to sister, however as Twilight stated we have none." Luna responded, feeling sadden that her and Tia had only one option. "Would thou tell me if she's made a decision?"
"I've already made my decision Luna. Same decision as you." Celestia said, looking at her sister with an emotionless look.
Luna wasn't surprised. Despite the knowledge, that summoning monster from another world, who could potentially be worse than their own, to combat their own. Would leave a bad taste in Celestia mouth, Luna's was also at odds with herself. On one hand they might have the solution to their nightmare, ponies will be able to sleep at night without the worry of death. Either that or they would turn a horrible situation into an even worse one, if that was even possible.
"Than it is settled?" Luna sake her sister.
Celestia did not respond, continuing to look at Ponyville, almost in a trance like state. Luna could understand why her sister wouldn't want to give her, a answer to this question, but time was of the essence. Regardless of the many "what if" scenarios that came to mind. Celestia needed to answer the question before any one of those monsters could strike again and more fear could sink into more ponies hearts. Luna poked Celestia's wing, to get her attention.
"Sister I know this is a difficult decision, to an even worse situation but I know you have an answer. Please speak it." Luna said, trying to sound compassionate but also firm.
"Yes. You are right sister." Celestia said, looking at Luna.
"Than we are in agreement?" Luna asked, expecting an answer this time.
"Yes, we will summon these otherworldly monsters to combat our own." Celestia said, reluctantly agreeing.
"Good. Let us gather Cadence and Twilight Sparkle, we will need their help." Luna said, she began walking towards Cadence's room. "I trust you will gather Twilight Sparkle personally, correct?"
"Yes." Celestia answered, giving one last glance at Ponyville before returning her gave back to Luna. "You will inform Cadence of our predicament yes?"
"Of course." Luna said.
Luna nodded her head, in a reassuring manner and than walked away, Celestia teleported herself to Twilight's library. She was met with by Spike, who had shielded his eyes from the flash of light the magic had produced, Spike removed his hand from his eyes view and was happy to see it was Celestia. He greeted her with a smile, Celestia returned the gesture.
"Hello Spike." Celestia said, sweetly.
"Hi Princess." Spike said.
"Oh Spike please call me Celestia." Celestia said, moving closer to Spike. "Can you tell me where Twilight is right now?"
"Up stairs in her room." Spike answered. "Would you like me to get her?"
"Please." Celestia said kindly.
"Twilight! Celestia's here!" Spike shouted.
Celestia let out a small giggle, at Spike's method of calling Twilight. Celestia couldn't remember the last time she had a good giggle, she had to appreciate these small moments of enjoyments, which seemed to be very rare these day, since all the killing had begun. Most of the time now her and Luna spent days figuring out a solution to solves this nightmare, reading help letters from ponies, and fearing when the next victim would be. Truly it was a dark time for pony kind. That thought was interrupted by the sounds of hooves running down the stairs. Twilight came running down to see her mentor.
"Princess Celestia hello." Twilight said giving a bow.
"Twilight please your a princess now and my friend there's no need for you to bow and please call me Celestia." Celestia said, walking towards her friend.
"Sorry, force of habit." Twilight admitted as her and Celestia chuckled together.
"I trust you know why I am here." Celestia asked.
"I'm actually a little afraid to answer that." Twilight admitted
"You fear my answer?" Celestia guessed.
"No I'm sure I can guess what choice you made. I fear what comes next after you tell me your answer." Twilight said, as honest as possible.
"Me to Twilight." Celestia said, a frown growing on her face. "Me to."
After telling Twilight of her and Luna's decision. Celestia teleports, herself and Twilight to the throne room. There they see Luna and
Cadence waiting for them. Cadence has a look of worry and fear, Obviously Luna had already explained everything. Now all that was left to do was start this meeting, than they could focus on summoning the otherworldly monsters for the task at hand.
"Cadence as always it is good to see you." Celestia said, getting close to her niece to give her a hug. "I just wish it was under better circumstances."
"I know auntie." Cadence said, breaking away from the hug to met her aunt face to face. "Luna explained everything to me, I still find it hard to believe this is the only option."
"Trust me Cadence if there where more options me and Luna would have taken them before even considering this." Celestia looked to her sister, Luna gave a nod to her. "And we have."
"It's just –” Cadence stopped when she saw Twilight. “– Twilight."
Twilight and Cadence walked to one another, they gave a hug but it was short lived, letting go and then looking at each other. Each gave a reassuring smile to signify that they where happy to see each other again.
"I know normally we do our sunshine sunshine ladybugs awake dance but considering the circumstances –" Cadence was interrupted when Twilight putted her hoof on Cadence.
"Considering the circumstances, I'm happy to see you again." Twilight said, making Cadence feel a little better.
"Me to. I know you still choose to live in Ponyville, I was worrying for your safety every day." Cadence said. "Shinning Armor to."
"How is Shinning Armor?" Twilight asked a hint of worry in her voice.
"He's fine. Him and his stallions are still looking for these monsters." Cadence said, a sad look grew on her face. "Even though he doesn't go out much, I still worry for him when he does."
"Well with this plan you may not have to worry long." Twilight said. "That being said, this meeting should begin."
"I agree." Luna looked to Celestia. 'Sister care to begin."
"Yes. As we all know this past year began with the murder of two ponies. Where we're all horrified by this but where also confident that we would find the perpetrator, but after two more murders. We than knew that this was a situation that would get worse before it gets better. Sadly that was not the case either, more murders became recent but each one was different than the last, meaning that as the year has progressed more ponies have been attacked some murdered, other crippled, many have vanished, and much worse has happened to ponies. We figured out that all of these are the results of other monsters appearing. They are among the population, this has resulted in us unable to find them." Celestia took a minute to catch her breath, this was all a lot to explain but once she caught her breath, Celestia continued her explanation. "With tensions rising and fear beginning to take over, with the suggestion of Twilight Sparkle, My sister and I have decided to fight fire with fire."
"What do you mean by that auntie?" Cadence asked, starting to get an idea of what they might be talking about, an idea she didn't like.
"I mean, we shall summon otherworldly monsters to our world to fight our monsters for us." Celestia said confirming Cadence's guess.
"But with all due respect auntie this seems like an idea that just has disaster written all over it." Cadence said, this idea did not sit well with her.
"Cadence, I know this is not the best sounding plan but as Twilight had stated our options have run out and we must now use our last one and sadly this is it." Celestia explained, seeing the understanding growing in Cadence's eyes.
"When all else fails fresh ideas are the best thing to come up with." Luna added. "No matter how bad they may seem."
"I understand." Cadence admitted, she knew they're options where running out but now she understood that reasonable options where all gone. "I'm in."
"Thank you Cadence." Celestia smiled at her niece, she than looked to Twilight. "Twilight?"
"I've been doing some calculation on this, and I've decide that two monsters should be good enough to handle this." Twilight said confidently. "Will provide them with the necessary information, housing, equipment, and any other resources that they will need. With reasonable use of course."
"And they will report back to of us of their progress I suspect." Luna asked, all for this plan but still a little skeptical on how it will all play through.
"Yes." Twilight said. "Everything they do, will be reported back to us."
"I have to ask, these are otherworldly monsters we'll be dealing with. How can we be sure they'll be controlled or won't turn against us?" Cadence asked sharing Luna's skepticism.
"Will have guards watching over them when they are not investigating and that will practically be most of the day." Twilight explained.
"Why not when they're investigating?'" Cadence asked not understanding the logic behind this.
"We'll have to give them some space to handle this their way, otherwise they might be more reluctant to help." Twilight said, hoping that would ease Cadence's worries.
For the most part it did. But Cadence was still a little worried about this, however knowing that these would be creatures from other worlds "helping" them didn't help her mind either. Considering the reasons for taking this option, made her more understanding towards this decision, besides she trusted Celestia, Luna, and Twilight and if they believed this was the right course of action to take than she would support them one hundred percent.
"So how do we do this? Where do we get these monsters from?" Cadence asked ready to get this started.
"I'm sure Celestia and Luna have that figured out right?" Twilight said confidently, as she looked at the two princesses.
"Yes, you are correct Twilight." Celestia looked at Luna. "Luna?"
"Right." Luna said, powering up her horn.
Luna used her magic to display a planet shape projection in the middle of the room. This unknown planet surprised and fascinated Twilight and Cadence. Would this be the planet where they would recruit they're monsters? How would the princesses be able to get these monsters here? A lot of questions came to mind, over this plan but the looks of Celestia and Luna, told them they had this part already planned out.
"Sister would you like me to explain or would you?" Luna asked.
"Does not bother me which one of us does it, you can decide Luna." Celestia said.
"I would like to then." Luna said, wanting to finally get a chance to explain something.
"Go ahead sister." Celestia said, smiling at her sister.
"Thank you. Now this planet is called Earth, it's inhabited by a species know as humans. These humans are in many ways the complete opposite of our species. They wage war, feel hate towards one another, even kill, and there are much worse things that I will not speak of. Regardless of their flaws they do have their good qualities but that's a story for another time, what we need from them though is two of their most merciless and monstrous humans for this task." Luna took a moment to catch her breath, she now understood what Tia felt like during these explanations. "But they will also have to be intelligent, patient, and most importantly reasonable."
"Are these creatures really the best you can fine." Cadence asked, not in a complaining manner but in a worried tone. "How can we be so sure they'll be reliable enough to help us?"
"Despite their flaws, they are not mindless animals. They do have intelligence." Luna explained, confident this would put Cadence's mind at ease. "This is a factor that will work to our advantage. If we where to pick two creatures with animalistic instincts we'll only be making the situation worse. These humans are the best we can fine."
"I think the biggest questions should be what methods will these humans use to help us? Will they be able to handle these grotesque horrors? And how will we convince them to get involved in our problems?" Twilight added, more curious on how this plan would executed.
"Me and Luna have already thought about those questions, I can assure you we have this thought it." Celestia said, trying to answer Twilight's curiosity and calm Cadence's worries.
"How would we be able to teleport a human, from Earth to Equestria?" Cadence asked, asking a question Celestia could answer.
"That is another reason, besides this meeting, for why you and Twilight are here." Celestia said, ready to explain the next step of the plan. "All of us are Alicorns. With the power of are magic combined together, I believe we can create a teleportation spell powerful enough to bring two of these humans to Equestria."
"I apologize to say, that this is the only question we can answer for the time being." Luna interjected. "But it is only a matter of time before the next victim appears."
Twilight and Cadence looked at each other and nodded there heads, they might still have some unanswered questions but they trusted the princesses. Besides Luna was right, they where in a rush, who knows how long it would be before the next victim would fall prey to their own worlds monsters. They would get their answers from the princesses later, but one final question had to be asked before they began.
"Who are the two humans you've chosen to help us?" Twilight asked, expecting an answer for this question.
"John "The Hitcher" Ryder" Luna said, answering half of Twilight's question.
"Dr. Hannibal Lecter." Celestia said, completing the answer.
