Determining Fate
Pinkie's Lie
Load Full StoryNext Chapter"Hey, Pinkie Pie, I can’t wait to go over to your sweet party later! What time is it at!?” Rainbow Dash yelled from across the field. She took the ball up in her hoof and whacked it as hard as she could, sending it flying to Pinkie.
She, naturally, jumped up to try to catch it. Instead, she was thrust back, the force of the ball hitting her hard in the chest. She coughed, trying her best to smile. “W-wow…..good...throw…..”
Rainbow Dash flew down, as quickly as she could, to Pinkie. She hadn’t meant to hurt her. It was just a simple accident, right? It intrigued Dash that a ball could do so much, yet so little. Maybe it was a miracle this had happened, for it apparently had taught Dash a lesson, even though it had hurt her best friend.
She would never, of course, get that answer.
Helping her up, Dash grinned half-heartedly at her. “It’s your turn Pinkie. Throw it as hard as you want….”
Pinkie Pie just looked up, staring Dash in the eyes. The look of evil hovered in her eyes for a couple of seconds, before the light blue in them took over and she smiled. “It’s ok, Dash! I think I’ve had enough ball throwing for the day! I have a party to plan, and you know I LOVE my parties!”
Pinkie watched her as Dash just shrugged it off. She precariously stepped back, reaching for the ball. She had felt the same darkness that Pinkie had felt in that moment, and was too afraid to step near her.
Oh Celestia, I’ve done it again…..
It wasn’t like she had meant to. They were her friends, and she knew that; Pinkie just couldn’t shake the feeling that something had happened to her. She didn’t know when it did, buuut it did. She needed to get away from here as quickly as possible. "Oh but you can’t just leave, Pinkie. All your friends are expecting a party later, and you have to provide, right? That’s what you’re used for?"
Ignoring the voice, she sat there, tears beginning to stream down her face. She had never felt a sadness like this. You truly don’t know what friendship is until you’ve lost it….
She stood up quietly, wishing there was an escape. Pinkie would have to leave, but not until this party was finished. It would be the best party she’d ever thrown, no doubt.
~~~
Everybody was gathered around the table. They were all chanting for Dash, who was busy chugging down a hard gallon of cider.
“Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!”
Everypony except for Pinkie was cheering. She was watching them all, mostly Dash, just smiling as she realized that the party was in full swing. Everypony was dancing, having fun, and socializing. It couldn’t be going any better! It wasn’t even time for the Coup de Grace yet, and all the ponies were hyped up on apple cider, pleasure of the Apple Family. A voice from outside called out to her, and Ms. Pie proceeded to follow it.
“Hey Pinkie, you have GOT to come check this thing out! It’s funnerifically fantastic!!!”
Of course, Pinkie couldn’t resist the call of fun! Bouncing her way out of the door, she stared down upon the most spectacular thing ever. It was an ultra-deluxe, super party cannon! Behind the cannon, was the wall-eyed mare, Derpy.
She rarely ever actually spoke to Derpy, but everypony was her friend, and she would be no exception. Both her eyes positioned themselves opposite of one another. Her eyes watered, realizing that this would be the last anypony saw her.
“Hey Pinkie, think you could help? I accidentally got something stuck in there earlier, and I need it moved out so I can give this cannon to you.”
For her!?!?! She couldn’t believe it. Now she had to remove this object from the cannon! Pinkie leaned in, her head squeezing through the large hole. Not seeing anything, she tried to get her head out, but found her head to be stuck. It seemed weird at first, but then she began to laugh. This was obviously a prank!
“Alright, guys, you got me! Let me out now! I wanna have some more fun!”
Nobody was helping. She started to get scared, thinking she would be trapped there forever. Death would even be better than this! “Somepony, please help me! I’m stuck!!!”
Derpy was trying to be reassuring, saying that she was doing her best, mumbling under her breath about some “Zecora stuff.” It was only then that Pinkie realized the cannon was cursed. Before Derpy could be warned, she pushed the cannon button, and away Pinkie went.
The speed of a bullet, Pinkie was launched through the air, straight towards Canterlot Castle. The princess of the night, Princess Luna, stood guard atop the towers. As Pinkie closed in on the castle, Luna yelped, jumping down to try to save her. Realizing Pinkie was going too fast, she called on Celestia, but it was too late. Pinkie Pie was ten feet from the castle, then five, then two….
BAM!
~~~
Pinkie sat up fiercely in the bed she was lying in. “W...where am I!? Am I dead!? What just happened!?”
There was a nurse pony standing over her bed. She looked down at Pinkie with a smile. “It’s alright, Ms. Pie. You’re in the psychiatric hospital. I know you may have many questions, but I advise you to wait until Doctor Sparkle gets here.”
Pinkie’s eyes went wide. Twilight was HERE!? What was Twilight even doing in a hospital for crazy people? Pinkie was going crazy trying to figure out why she was in one of the beds at this hospital. Then it hit her: They thought she was a patient! Pinkie broke out in laughter at the thought. Her? Crazy? "Well, you are. You have me, didn’t you know?"
There was that voice again. It had always been present in the very depths of her mind, and it made her angry that she couldn’t get rid of it. It was a mystery as to how it existed inside of her mind, or even why it wanted to talk to her specifically. Although fun during the day, Pinkie had spent countless hours of night doing research on all things voice-y in a pony’s head.
Pinkie looked around. It was a plain white room, with a TV to her right. The TV blared static, and no remote was present. Closing her eyes, Pinkie had just hoped it was all a dream, but, upon opening them, had come to discover that this was all too real. Throwing off her blanket, Pinkie found that she had been covered in cuts all over her body.
Had the fall really been that bad on her?
She inspected every inch of herself, stopping for a few moments at her flanks. There was no cutie mark there. It was just a pink flesh of skin, bland without her special brand. It had shaped her, and now was probably going to haunt her forever. Honestly, how could a party pony be a party pony without proof that she was a party pony. All these thoughts were confusing Pinkie, who just wanted to go back home.
“Now, my dear Pinkie, who says there ever was a home to go to?”
She recognized that voice. “Twilight? Is that you?”
The voice spoke in a sharp tone, quick and defiant. “I assure you, my dear, that my name is not Twilight. I am Dr. Sparkle. I have been assigned to you, Mrs. Pie, in hopes of treating all of your ailments. If I am correct, as usual, you are suffering from a severe case of both depression and schizophrenia. Now, we have been conducting tests to try to cure you, all of which seem to have been in vain.”
Pinkie didn’t understand a word she was saying. Depression? Schizophrenia? What even were these things? Right now, did it really matter what they were? “Please, I just want to go back home with you!”
“I told you, there is no home. It appears that you’ve put yourself in a state of delusion. A couple months ago, you were admitted here, apparently having suffered head trauma and, consequently, a coma.”
Wait….had Pinkie really been there for two months? She couldn’t remember...in fact, she couldn’t remember anything before this “coma.” She wanted the truth. Why in Equestria was she here!?
“I told you, there is no Equestria….stop living in this fantasy world of yours. Yes, I can read your thoughts. It surprises you, obviously, but I can. Now, you need to sleep.”
She was NOT going to sleep. She was GOING to get out of this place. “Dr. Sparkle, I wanna know what you’ve been doing to me! Tell me RIGHT NOW!!!”
Twilight just shook her head, a smug grin on her face. “And what if I don’t? Are you gonna go all Pinkamena on me?”
Pinkie looked to her left, at the instrument table. She grabbed a scalpel and lunged at Twilight. Apparently she didn’t expect this, not being able to dodge in time for the knife to reach her. Twilight fell over, motionless.
Pinkie walked out the door, walking the hallways. Doors of every shape and size lined up in rows along the corridor she was in. The hallways seemed endless, yet she began to walk them. All of the doors were white, and all had windows in them. She kept peeking in them, curious as to what kind of ponies were kept in a facility such as this one.
Most of the ponies seemed normal, all except for one. Above the door, a label read, “Ms. Jack, the most dangerous of them all.” Pinkie slowly crept the door open, about to enter.
~~~
Pinkie sat up in her bed, back in Sugarcube Corner. Standing at the foot of her bed were all her friends, all except Twilight. The others said she was on important business.
“A-am I alright? What happened to me?”
She learned that she was thrust out of a cannon at top speed. Luckily, Rainbow Dash caught her just in time. That was an impossible feat, as Pinkie was two feet from hitting the stone walls of Canterlot Castle. She didn’t get much information, as a soft voice seemed to whisper in her ear, vaguely resembling Twilights’.
“Sleep….”
And Pinkie settled down for a long nap.
