Victory for the Galactic Federation!

The Rebel Flagship has been destroyed, the utter majority of the Rebel fleet has been thrown into disarray, forced to retreat into their remaining territory from the destruction of their commanding Admiral and his Flagship; a near-impossible accomplishment, but at a great cost.

The Federation fleet has survived, but has been crippled. A state of emergency has been called.

'Operation Restoration' has been put into effect.

All diplomatic options have been opened, a last resort should the Federation be on the verge of destruction; almost all key major and minor space-faring races have been chosen and requested as possible allies to the weakened Federation fleet, ignoring most past transgressions with various past races. Several dozen diplomats are being loosely escorted to various systems, among the candidates are even the aggressive Mantis, the deviant Slugs, even the honorable but arrogant Zoltans.

The more-than-wary peaceful Equestrian race still a near dead-wall challenge, highly cautious and reclusive of the violent conflicts and races above and beyond their own planet; choosing reclusiveness instead of joining in the aspect of inter-galactic war allied with the Federation, the majority choosing instead to refuse all contact with military forces of any kind. Very few aspects of the Equestrian race engages with other galactic races, choosing instead to send scientists and researchers to understand their galaxy better as a whole instead of understanding the conflicts they hear of, a few 'ponies' choosing to call independence from their world, tempted by the call of adventure and exploration of unknown space beyond their skies.

Former Federation human Officer, Lieutenant Matthews, has been automatically contacted and offered a military pardon to return to the badly under-staffed Federation forces, despite his reported desertion early in the Rebel conflict. Duly expected with the report of desertion, he's been formally stripped of his rank and enlisted as an Ensign as a remainder of good faith.

Unbeknownst to him however, he will be assigned by Federation Allied-Engi STG (Special Task Group) for a special project in an attempt to gain an advantage against the retreating Rebel Fleet, getting paired with an unusual companion when the station he's aboard suddenly goes dark; himself getting unexpectedly 'imprinted' to an initially hostile Artificial Intelligence, designated as Twi. E. Sparkle.
