So the Elders sent me to go and find a new leader for the Brotherhood. They say I have a talent, though I don’t see it. Then again, I can’t see anything. But they agree that I am by far the best when it comes to finding the “correct” leaders. I guess that I don’t mind, though I do have the tendency to bump into everything in my path. I just wish I wasn’t blind.

So, I walked the deserted halls, stopping in front of every room, only to deny the pony that lay there, eagerly awaiting a message. Door after door, hall after hall. I couldn’t find the pony that would become our new leader. I froze in the middle of the hallway, and meditated for a moment. Then, without knowing it, I began walking. Had I passed a room without noticing?

I continued walking down the hall, not sure where I was heading. Then, I just... stopped. I turned my head to and fro. I wasn’t sure where I was, but I knew that I still in the Sanctuary. Then, the outlines flowed into my mind. I began to pick up the aura of everypony in the vicinity. If the “one” was in the Sanctuary, their aura would appear green instead of red.

I figured that my newfound ability to see the aura of ponies was my “special” talent that the rest of the Elders talked about. I scanned the entire area, but to no avail. Then, I looked down at the floor. I caught a slight hint of green, and looked at myself. It was me?! I was the only pony here with a green aura.

I started to shake in fear, and just like that, my aura faded to a red. Then, the “sight” shifted. I was viewing outside of the Sanctuary now, and could see every pony that was within a ten mile radius. That’s when I saw it. The green hue. It looked like this pony was walking out on the road, which wasn’t safe, especially in this blizzard.

And just like that, the sight faded and I was back to being blind. I grabbed at a coat, only managing to knock over the coat stand.

“Oh come on Snowdrop! Why must you be so clumsy?” I facehoofed myself and got down to the floor, feeling around for my coat. Finally, I grabbed it and carefully shrugged it on. I sighed, shook my head a few times, hoping to get that sight back, but it didn’t show up.

“Well Snow, looks like you are on your own now. Have to go and find that pony in this blizzard. And it doesn’t help that you are blind. Ugh.” I stepped outside and was automatically knocked off my hooves. I landed in a fresh pillow of snow and sat there with my head buried. I sighed heavily and shoved myself out of the snow. I started to walk in the direction of the pony that I had seen.

I was stopped repeatedly, because I kept walking into trees and falling into snow. I finally stopped completely and started to meditate.

“Maybe if I can do the same thing that I did back in the Sanctuary...” After a few moments of hard concentration, I was allowed my “sight”. I scanned the area for the mysterious pony, and caught the faint hint of green in the distance. I would’ve said that they were about three to five miles away, but my judgment on distance was horrible. I began to trot, which was nearly impossible in the thick snow.

“Come on Snowdrop. You can’t just lose this pony. She is the future of the Brotherhood!” I continued to trot, picking up the pace to more of a gallop. I was actually hopping in the snow more than galloping, but it was the same difference to me.

“Goodness me! This pony is fast! I can’t rest though. Not until I have them back at the Sanctuary!” Then, the pony stopped and turned my way. They just stood there, as if they were waiting for me. I sighed in relief and slowed my pace slightly. When I finally reached the pony, I had already lost my vision. I stood there panting, and could feel them staring at me. Once I had caught my breath, I said, “Hello. My name is Snowdrop. I am in need of your assistance. Would you please come with me?”

Silence, then a response, “Why hello there Snowdrop! My name is Derpy Hooves! I would love to go with you, but I don’t know where we are going.. would you mind showing me?” I sighed heavily. Was the pony that would lead the Brotherhood in the largest assassination really Derpy Hooves? Oh dear. What would the Elders say?

“Sure thing. If I can remember which way it is.” I could sense that she was confused, so I explained, “Derpy... Um I mean Ms. Hooves, I am blind, therefore I cannot see.” I heard her laugh ever so slightly and then she said, “Just call me Derpy please. Do you want a muffin?” A muffin? Who was this mare? Well, we both had disabilities, but really? A muffin at a time like this?

“Uh, thank you, but no thank you. Maybe later. Give me a moment.”

“Well okay. Whatever you say!” I concentrated, hoping that I would be allowed to see my trail. Lo and behold! I could see exactly where I had come from! I motioned Derpy to follow me and stuck to the path I had made. I looked back to see Derpy’s aura. It allowed me to see what she was doing, which was catching snowflakes on her tongue. She was a rather adorable mare.

I kept walking, and she followed. She seemed fascinated by all of the snow everywhere. I would have to stop frequently, in order for her to catch up. She would jump into every pile of snow we passed. I would’ve done the same, except I had an objective. I cleared my throat and called back, “Derpy! If you do mind, I am in a rush to get inside! It is really cold out here and my hooves are freezing!”

“Oops. Sorry Snowdrop.” I told her that it was okay and we kept walking. Only a few more paces. I stopped and told Derpy to go down the path. It should lead her to a door. She did as I instructed and called out, “Okay Snowdrop! I’m there!” I nodded to myself and walked to where she was. I opened the door and said, “Inside, quickly.” She bolted inside without question and ran straight towards the Mane Hall.

I followed at a distance and when we entered, closed the doors so that nopony would see us. I took a deep breath and said, “Okay Derpy. Welcome to the Sanctuary.” She paused and said in a questioning voice, “Sanctuary?” I nodded and said, “You are to be our new leader. I was sent to find one, and you happened to be the one pony with the sacred green aura.”

“But I thought you were blind.”

“I am, but I have a gift. Unlike anypony else, I can see the aura of others if I concentrate. Now, you must go through an initiation in order to join the Brotherhood.”

“Brotherhood? What are there no girls here?” I facehoofed myself again and said, “There are. It’s just that ‘Brotherhood’ sounds more formal.”

“Oh. Well that makes sense.” I nodded and said, “ I don’t know what the initiation will be, so we shall wait here until the rest of the Elder Council arrive.”
