The heavy rain pounded against Twilight's windows as she searched through her library for a book on sicknesses and ailments. She needed to find it quickly, or her friend might not have any chance of getting better. Rainbow Dash had recently fallen ill with a disease only known as pax-12. It was a rare disease that no one knew the cure for, though she was sure that if she looked hard enough, she could find a cure. She scoured the library looking for any book that might contain information regarding this terrible disease and its cure.
"there has to be something here that can help poor Rainbow." She muttered to herself as she threw book after book to the ground, none of them even mentioning the disease. All she knew about the disease was that her friend had it, and that if not helped it could be fatal. She sighed in frustration as she tossed her last medical book aside. "None of these books are any help at all!" She yelled in frustration.
"Uhm... Twilight?" Asked a familiar voice. She turned around to see Spike holding a rather worn book with an image of a cross with snakes coiling around it. She recognized the symbol immediately as the caduceus, the international sign of hospitality and health. "Have you tried this one yet?" Spike asked in a worried voice. Twilight quickly snatched the book out of his claws and open the book to the table of contents. She skimmed through them, mumbling the names of the chapters to herself as she read them.
She suddenly yelled "Spike, you're a life saver!"
"yeah, yeah. I'm going off to bed." for it was very late in the night, and Twilight's searches had awoken the baby dragon.
She didn't respond to him, as she had already flipped to the chapter marked "Pax-12 and other similar diseases". She read through it ferociously, taking in the words as if they were her very life essence. She flipped through the pages until she found a page about the cure of pax-12. Her eyes widened as she read what the cure was. She immediately got up, grabbed a few things, threw them into her saddlebag, and headed out the door into the dark, stormy night.
Twilight flew through the midnight sky, rain pelting against her, wetting her wings and impairing her vision, making it very difficult to fly. This did not deter the lavender alicorn, she was determined to help her friend no matter what. Suddenly, a flash of lightning danced across the sky, nearly frying her in place. Twilight did not care. She would keep on flying no matter what. She would get to Rainbow Dash, even if it killed her. She sped up and finally reached Rainbow Dash's house and knocked harshly on the door. After another lightning bolt struck not too far away, she decided she would just let herself in.
She entered the cloud house and shut the door behind her. "Rainbow Dash!" She called as she walked around the pegasus' house. She did not know where Rainbow's room was; Rainbow dash wasn't exactly one to invite people inside her house. Twilight eventually came upon the cyan pegasus' bedroom and set her saddlebag down next to the bed. "Rainbow Dash, wake up" she said, shaking her sleeping friend. Rainbow groaned,
"Ugh. What time is it? Why are you in my house?" She asked groggily.
"Nevermind that right now", Twilight said urgently. Rainbow dash sat up in bed.
"Seriously what are you doing in my house?" She asked.
"Just be quiet and let me prepare this." Twilight said, slightly annoyed now. She put all the ingredients she had grabbed from her house into a bottle. She then took out the last thing in her saddle bag, a kitchen knife, which gleamed as lightning struck outside.
"Whoa what are you doing!?" Rainbow Dash asked frantically.
"Relax, I'm not here to kill you" Twilight said, very annoyed now. She then held out her left hoof over the bottle of ingredients and closed her eyes. Rainbow watched wide eyed as Twilight brought the sharp blade down on her hoof.
"What the hell, Twilight!?" Twilight ignored her question and let herself bleed into the bottle. Once the bottle was about half filled with twilight's blood, she wrapped her hoof in some bandages and handed the bottle to her horrified friend.
"Drink it." She said impatiently.
"What is wrong with you Twilight?! I'm not just going to drink your blood!" She yelled at the now disoriented and tired alicorn.
"It's the only cure for pax-12. Drink it." She said blatantly. Reluctantly, the rainbow maned Pegasus brought the bottle to her lips, and let some of the mixture slip into her mouth.
She gagged when she tasted it.
"Are you sure this is the only way..?" She asked.
"If it weren't do you think I would have given you a pint of my blood?!?" Twilight was very impatient with her friend's shenanigans. Rainbow Dash didn't respond except by shakily bringing the bottle to her lips and downing the whole thing. "How do you feel?" Twilight asked.
"Horrified." Responded the sick pony.
"I mean, do you feel any better. Not how you feel about drinking my blood." Twilight said, rolling her eyes.
"I-I feel... better. I really do. Thank you, Twilight. I... I think It really worked" Said Rainbow Dash.
"It's nothing, really." Twilight replied.
"No... I-I thought I was done for... but... but you... you gave your blood for me. I am so lucky to have someone like you." Rainbow said, tears welling in her eyes.
"Really, it's nothing. Anyways, I should get going now. It's pretty late and-" just then lightning struck again.
"You shouldn't go out in that storm. Just stay here tonight." Said the cyan Pegasus.
"I guess that's probably best. Where should I sleep?" Asked Twilight.
"Actually I only have the one bed..." Dash said, embarrassed.
"Oh... well then..." Twilight mumbled nervously
"Oh come on, Twilight." Twilight sighed and got into bed with her friend, making an effort not to touch Rainbow Dash.
"Really though, I am so lucky to have someone like you." Rainbow said gratefully.
"That's what friends are for" said Twilight. Rainbow was silent for a while before saying
"Is that what we are? Friends?" Twilight looked at her, confused "like... I think we are more than just friends."
Twilight replied confusedly, "I guess... we are more like sisters." Of all her friends, Rainbow dash was probably her closest friend, with their shared love of reading, yet still they were very different so they always had something to talk about. Rainbow Dash was contemplating what Twilight said.
"I don't think of us as sisters either..." she said, and looked at Twilight, who looked back at her.
"Then what are we?" Twilight asked.
"What do you think we are..." Rainbow said nervously, staring intently at the alicorn next to her. They stared at each other for a while, and Twilight became uncomfortably aware of the lack of distance between the two of them. She blushed, embarrassed, causing Rainbow Dash to blush in turn.
Twilight then turned away and said shakily "Goodnight, Rainbow Dash."
