I saw this ad while trolling through Netflix one night, trying to decide if my life was worth living. Little did I know that that fateful transaction would not only save my life, it would mend my heart and mind.
Hi, my name is Arkady "Ark" Visovic, Orthodox Russian reprobate, brony, and a former Sergeant with the United States Army. I lost my legs while on deployment in Syria back in 2051. Goddamn IED blew them off… I know live in The Village in NYC, in a little brownstone once owned by my Mafioso uncle, just off of Little Red Square.
I live off of VA benefits, disability checks, and whatever handyman work I can get. Even though my uncle left me a small fortune, I need all the money I can get to pay for maintenance on my cybernetic prosthetic legs and the anti-rejection medications I take, plus the antipsychotics.
Like I said before, I was contemplating taking a pistol to my skull and ending it. Between flashbacks of the wars I served in and the increasing helplessness I felt about my condition, I was reaching the end of my rope. Then one of my service buddies got me addicted to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
I never thought I would get into a "girls show" but the well-rounded characters, the engaging plotlines, and the adventurous nature of the series drew me in. It probably also helped that I was attracted to one of the characters from the show, Fluttershy.
I watched the whole series through Netflix but when it was over, I felt empty again. Then I got hit with an advertisement by some company called Vogon Biotech that offered something I had to think twice about. Twenty thousand is a lot to ask for, especially if this was some scam. But as a wise man once said, "Fortune favors the bold." I bit the bullet, figuratively, bought The Fluttershy model, and waited…
I didn't expect a living, breathing version of the Pegasus. I sure as Hell didn't expect her to care for me the way she did. I sure as shit didn't think I would fall in love with her. I did, and if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a single thing. Hey, I'm still alive, ain't I?
