Epilogue: Phoenix Creation

"Do you really think this will work?" one of the hooded ponies whispered.

"I am certain. I did not find my way out of the Canterlot dungeon for this not to." whispered another.

She threw back her hood and revealed herself to those present, her normally grey eyes now violet, like those around her.

"I, Shining Star, defector of Princess Celestia and Luna, solemnly swear, to lead this company of rebels to the downfall of Celestia, and the rise of our Queen!"

A cheer rose up from the crowd.  Shining Star lit up her horn. Before her stood rows and rows of ponies, all cheering. She grinned.

"Bring forth the body!"

The cheers died down, and the crowd parted in the middle.  A struggling mare with a sack over her head and her hooves bound by magic rope was brought forth.  Two colts held her down as the sack was ripped off. The mare gasped for air, her frightened brown eyes looking frantically around the room. The young unicorn had a pale green body, and her long blonde mane was braided tightly.

"W-where am I?" she asked.

"The caves under the Canterlot castle, my dear. What is your name?" Star cooed, her voice sweet as honey.

"Lucenna..." replied the frightened filly.

Star closed her eyes and nodded.

"Ah, Shining Light, or Illumination. That's what your name means, did you know that?"

"Y-yes."

"THE TIME HAS COME! THE CLOCK STRUCK TWELVE!" yelled Star suddenly.

New terror appeared upon the filly's face. She screamed and struggled, trying to free herself of her bonds.

Star appeared to be indifferent.  "Your magic will not work.  I placed a magic block on you while you were unconscious."

She lit her horn with a spell and lifted Lucenna off the ground. She stopped screaming and looked Star in the eye, tears cascading out of her eyes, a pleading look on her face.

"Mom..."

Star faltered the tiniest bit, but then righted herself. She continued the spell concentrating hard, and Lucenna burst into flames.

As she screamed, her ear-splitting scream reached an octave nearly impossibly to hear. Soon, nothing was left but a pile of ashes.

"Bring the blood of Celestia, and the armor of Nightmare Moon, now!" Shouted Star, her voice no longer sweet.

Somepony hurried to her with a closed test tube containing a dark red liquid and some black armor that radiated evil. Everypony chanted:

"An innocent unicorn, brought by force, burnt to ash, dead of course. Blood of the sun princess, kind to some, armor of the evil one, do not be dumb. Mix together to create, our Queen Sunrise, the Magnificent and Great!”

A small spark rose from the ashes, then a small flame appeared. The flame grew and grew, until it was seven feet tall.  It slowly took the shape of a pony, and when the flames diminished, there stood Queen Sunrise.  Everypony bowed down.  The new being that stood before them bore no resemblance to the filly that she had been created from.  Her blue eyes now violet, the pupils turned to slits.  Teeth sharpened to points.  Her once light green body was now bright red.  Blonde mane turned into something identical to flames.  Her new wings more pointed than any pegasus ever.  Nightmare Moon’s armor was now the color of fire.  Instead of the cutie mark the girl had before, there was a pointed sun, its points not flowing like Celestia’s.

Star bowed down so low, her muzzle touched the floor.

“Welcome, my Queen.”
