Legends may be born in times of peace, but they only come to the fore when forged in the fires of war, and shaped upon the anvils of strife.

At the dawn of Equestrian history our nation was blossoming, destined to become the mightiest in the known world, but a darkness lay hidden in the shadows. Ponies back then felt that it was forces from beyond our borders that were the greatest threat to our fledging nation, nopony expected that our greatest foe of that time would be ourselves. From that darkness that lay hidden in the shadows, whispers crept into the minds of ponykind. Many fell into the clutches of chaos and its promises of power and the future it would hold for them. When they had garnered enough followers the Order of Chaos marched against Equestria, consuming it in fire and sorrow. Claiming the kingdom as their own, they used its wealth and might to further the goals of their master, Discord, and unleash him upon the world.

During this dark age, two legends were born. Today they sit upon thrones dedicated to the sun and moon, watching over us in both light and darkness. But back then, Celestia and Luna were the final hope for all of ponykind. Thrown into a conflict they had only ever seen on the horizon, they would embark upon a journey to unravel ancient secrets, inspire millions, and with the guidance of heroes and gods, free their kin from the grip of chaos.
