Applebloom was standing in the kitchen washing the dishes she had just finished using. At the age of 15 and her cutie mark gained, like the rest of the now disbanded Cutie Mark Crusaders, the apple family decided it was okay to leave her alone for a few nights. She hummed a song from the past and thought of 'Scoots' and Sweetie Belle. She smiled at the carefree days when she was a little filly. Phhh! How she thought her cutie mark was going to be APPLE related. Now that she thought about it she never was really that good at anything apple related at all, her real forte was construction and building. She smiled at how proud Applejack was when she got it. Then scowled as she remembered how horrible Diamond and Silver had been when it was different from the rest of her family it was. Though, at that she had made up for her being the biggest asshole in the word a looong time ago. The dishes done Applebloom pranced into the living room.
The TV was already on. The X Factor.
"BOOOORRRIIIIIIIIINGGG!!!" She shouted. Then slumped onto the sofa and flicked the television onto Sci-Fi. Star Trek, nice! then UGH! Voyager. After about five minutes of flitting around the channels she settled on a documentary about Celestia and Luna. She sat there just watching TV, melting her mind with the one sided propaganda like- the truth about Celestia and Luna! Yeah. That's right... Right yeah! Celestia was actually a murdering ghost summoning psychopath who hated everyone and Luna was under a spell to not say a thing. Phhsss! All lies! She got up after the program had finished and had a once over of the room making sure it was nice. Alright I guess. She thought with a shrug. Then went up to bed. She passed the door. Then made sure all the lights were off on the bottom floor. The hall smelt of apples and sweat as usual and the third step creaked as usual and the door to her room squeaked as she went into her bedroom.
She showered the slipped into bed. Her light out and door ajar, she soon dozed off . Disturbed sleep followed as a bad dream plagued her mind. Horrible creatures of death and blackness. The world warping and changing as she ran through the shadows and into the light.. Then, she woke up. Suddenly she couldn't move she stared at the wall and started to breath rapidly in the pitch black of her once comforting room. Applebloom tried to cry out, but her voice didn't respond to her pleas of help. She didn't know what to do. Then there was somebody else in the room... Huge, completely black and seething with hatred. Somehow it stood out against the all encompassing darkness. It scared her. She wanted to get away but she was still immobile. It stared at her. Teasing her with it's merciless, yet rather bored ,blank face. Tears started to roll down her fluffy yellow cheek. It took an age of terrifying nothingness before the huge shadow leaped at poor Applebloom. She let out an awfully loud scream and it shattered.
She sat bolt upright and flicked on her light almost instantly. Then sat there silently crying for her big sister and even her brother.
Applebloom curled up on the apple red sofa in the living room and sighed. She looked at her shaky hands and thought about last nights events. What happened? Why did it happen? Could it be a ghost? She thought Then pushed the covers off her and walked over to the mirror. She looked deep into her eyes and groaned. Why would a ghost be after her? What had she done? All these questions came to her as she thought about it longer and longer. Did it want to kill her? Was it an angry family member. Was it- No. It couldn't be. But the one question remained. What the bloody hell did it want?! Fearful as she was she still had things to do. She got dressed checked the house and took off without a care in the world. Oh! How naive.
It was a nice day the the smell of apples hung light in the air as the strode through Sweet Apple Acres. The wind blew her crimson hair wildly across her face from behind. The autumn leaves fell onto the ground without a sound. The apple trees had just been harvested so the trees were bare of any and all fruits. Her sister made sure of THAT. She could no longer see the huge farmhouse but she knew the place so well she could walk back from anywhere in the oversized orchard. She thought about school and whatever girls think about at that age and smiled. All was well. Maybe. Probably. Hopefully. But then her happiness was abruptly interrupted.
"Oh shit!" She exclaimed as the walked right into the fence on the edge of Sweet Apple Acres. Her shin ached with the power of two hundred and fifty seven bison. "Owowowowowowowowowowowow..." She went off on a series of pain noises as she writhed around on the floor with pain spiking in both her shins. After a while she recovered and pushed herself back onto her two feet and limped back to the house.
By the time she got back it was mid afternoon. The door clicked open as she walked in. *beep* The answer phone went. She picked it up, it was Applejack.
"Aw hey sweetie it's AJ here just wanted to say that something' came up and were gonna need a teensy bit more time up here. So we'll be back in a few days instead of tonight. Really sorry sis'. Love ya' Big Mac says hi!" You here an 'eeeyup' as she hangs up and the message ends. No. No. No. Not now! Not now! Not while this ghost thing was in the house with her! She gulped and thought about ways to protect herself. AJ would kill her if she left the house unattended so she had to stay. Ummm.... A weapon! An axe would work, they had one in the storage room. Applebloom ran into the storage room and grabbed the weapon from the cabinet. This would do this would do nicely.
A very tired Applebloom sat impatiently in her room with her blanket wrapped around her. Far too worried, about what would happen if she slept, to sleep . That probably isn't a good thing, she thought. The whole house had taken a darker atmosphere. It seemed that the disappearance of the sun and the rising of Luna's moon had sucked all happiness from the usually bustling household. Her hands tightened around the handle of the heavy weapon as the clock struck midnight and rung loudly throughout the hollow building. But then the lights went out. "Whajuhapehn!?" Said Applebloom. Clearly unable to form a word. After a while her senses kicked in. Power cuts were common, this far from the newfangled Equestria power plant She leaped from her bed and proceeded to run down the stairs to find a torch. Leaving the axe all they way up in her bedroom.
"Man, this is eerie!" Applebloom said to nobody in particular, walking into the store room. There was so much in here; tools, nails ,batteries, and would you believe it apples. There in the drawer a few ma torch lay a literal beacon of light in the darkness. She flicked the torch on. Nothing happened. That's strange! Knowing this house like the back of her hand was helpful when it came to fumbling in the dark. She grabbed one of those huge lantern batteries and swapped it with the current one. Another try failed. The colour drained from her face. Oh..... Dear. She slowly drew the curtain to see the street lamps down the drive, frighteningly, on. She started to panic as she bolted for the front door.It was stuck. "Ooohhhh fu-" The breath was knocked out of her as a object hit her in the stomach and she fell to the ground. She turned her head to see the dreaded figure from last night. IT tilted it's head as if to say hello there, miss me? She creamed as if she thought it would get rid of it again. Oh, how wrong she was. The scream seemed to annoy it. IT must have flinched a bit but it just seemed to get stronger. Applebloom ran. *BOOF* She ran straight into a wall. Her ears rang. This was not good... She bolted for the stairs. Running up the stairs Applebloom tripped in the dark. The creature seemed to see this as an opportunity and she heard it jumped forward, threateningly close to her. She picked herself up and stumbled back. "NO! NO DON'T YOU DARE." Applebloom tried to swing the nonexistent axe. Oh great! She thought, I left it in my room... She flipped around and ran for them weapon in her bedroom, but it grabbed her and swung her hard against the wall. *CRACK*! Pain shot through her head. The creature was unimaginably strong. She again, got up but fell straight back down. Blood was now gushing from her head wound (As they do). her hand went up to it to try and stifle the bleeding. The walls were spinning as the creature approached her and she stumbled into her room. There, the axe lay. She picked it up and swung it at the monster. *Plink*. The axe bounced harmlessly off it and landed, now dulled. "No!" She screamed desperation filling her voice. it grabbed her throat and picked her up a metre off the ground. up against the wall she tried to struggle but it was futile. It had got her. "No... please? I don't want to die...".. It tightened it's grip, crushing her throat. It's other hand reached toward her stomach and it started to to push her more fully against the wall. It then pulled with all it's might against her throat.
In Applebloom's world time seemed to slow down to a halt, the pain in her head and lungs were overpowering causing her to gasp for what little air she could get. Then out of nowhere an intense tearing pain appeared in her throat. It's going to tear my throat out... She thought sadly. Coming to terms with her inevitable doom. The pain intensified as the tear got bigger and bigger until it was completely away from her neck. Her vision failed as Applebloom tried to scream in pain but all she could do was gurgle pitifully. Her eyes glazed over asher life slipped away. The creature that hated her so much, simply faded away...
