The Warmth of Ember

A snow white colt awoke to the sound of buzzing in his ears, he looked over at his clock, “well I better get up” he said as he started to pack his saddle bags. Today was a special day for him, he was finally allowed to move out of his parents house, he was planning on moving to his cousins house in ponyville, “hmm, I wonder what she will be like after 6 years of not seeing her, she has probably not changed much from that clever kind pony I remember” he said day dreamily. His alarm went off again, “oh god I might miss the train if I don’t hurry” he said panickly, he rushed out the door with a daffodil sandwich in his mouth and his saddle bags placed awkwardly on his flank. As he got to the train station he noticed his parents waiting to see him off, “honey, come here darling” said the also snow white mare, “now you treat your cousin with respect she has done many things since she has lived there” she said this time sprucing his hair up, “ok mom, now if you will let me I have a train to catch” with that he jumped on the train and waved goodbye to his parents as he began to make his way towards his destination.

As he arrived at the station the first thing that he noticed was that the air smelled like manure which made him gag slightly, “well this is my new life, better get used to it” he said softly to himself. He then began to make his way towards town center, since this is where he was meant to meet up with his cousin, but as he was about to turn towards it a pink pony ran right in front of him, “hi I am Ember and y…” was all he said before she jumped in the air and gasped before running off to god knows where, “well, ok then. That was strange” he said yet again to himself. “Ember, darling is that you dear” said a voice that was all too familiar to him, “Rarity that you” he said back, the two quickly embraced each other in a hug before talking, “so Rarity how have you been”, “oh darling things are simply wonderful”, “hey just a second ago I was stopped by some pink pony, do you know her?” he said while looking behind him half expecting to see the pony in the distance, he heard a giggle from his cousin, “what’s so funny?” all  she said was, “you are going to love it here, come to my house and I will show you where you will be staying” she said with a smile.

“Man what is this place” he said while pointing at the boutique, “that darling is where I live and where you will be living for the next however many years” she said slightly mad, they began to walk towards the boutique but they were interrupted as a rainbow maned pegasus stopped them, “woah, cool hairstyle” Ember said, he then got a nudge on his shoulder, “oh man, did I say that out loud” he said while blushing “who is this guy” said the pegasus while laughing, “this, Rainbow dear, is my cousin, Ember” said the white unicorn in response, he simply waved to the other mare that was 5 feet away from them, “so is he new around here?”, “well yeah I just got here about 30 minutes ago” he said for the first time with a straight face, “well you have a lot to see around here in ponyville, you have the ap…”, “Rainbow I must really be getting Ember settled in to his new home” said Rarity now slightly annoyed at the fact of being delayed, the pegasus stopped them once more “oh yeah, pinkie is having a party today and she wants to see if you will come”, “well tell her I will be there”, the two then walked into the boutique, “your room is upstairs on the left” said Rarity going towards a changing room, “hey rarity what are you doing?” inquired the now confused colt, “I am simply choosing a hat for the party” she said behind a row of hat racks. He simply went into his room and unpacked his bag and laid on the bed, and went to sleep.

Sometime later he awoke to something something nudging him on the shoulder, he saw a piece of paper with the words read me written on it. 'Come to sugar cube corner in the center of ponyville as soon as you get this'. He simply yawned and got out of bed and made his way for the door.as he stepped outside the same manure smell hit him. “why does it smell like a farm here” he found the place the letter mentioned and walked inside, “oh sorry to interrupt but I got this l… umm, why are all the lights turned off” he began to feel around for a light switch, once he found it he turned it on, *surprise*, he was so shocked he fell backwards out of the door, he got up and rubbed his head, he heard laughing coming from inside, “darling you must be more careful” said Rarity now stepping through the door followed by 5 others, he recognized the rainbow maned one from before and blushed slightly, but before he knew it his vision was blocked out by the same pony that he met on his way to his cousins.

“HI I AM PINKIE PIE, AND YOUR NEW AROUND HERE AND I KNOW THIS SINCE I KNOW JUST ABOUT EVERYPONY HERE AND I HAVEN’T MET YOU BEFORE SO I KNEW THAT YOU WERE NEW, SO I JUST HAD TO THROW THIS PARTY FOR YOU” she said with a smile, “umm, translation” he said while laughing, “oh darling you must get off the ground you might get dirty”, “yeah well since when did you become so, clean and pristine” he said laughing even harder than before, all of the other ponies began to laugh as well, “last time I remember you were tearing up everything, always making a mess and playing in the dirt, when did you become so…nit picky” he said laughing even harder than before, “Rarity dirty, ah think ya got the wrong pony” said a heavily accented voice, all Ember could do was stare at the pony that said this before he fell back on the ground laughing again, “oh god it hurts” he said while tearing up, “it hurts to laugh” he said yet again, he was having a laughing fit.

It didn’t help that in the background the pink pony was defying the laws of physics. One of the ponies began to look at him then Rarity “are you sure you two are related?” she said jokingly. Ember managed to stop his laughing fit, “yep, but I guess some of the things about us have changed” he said with a smirk. “Like the fact that you use to have an impossible task to keep her clean”, they all looked at each other smiling, then at Rarity, “well a lady may not be born, but a lady has presented itself” she said in response, “oh come on Rarity I doubt that you have changed that much” he said half sarcastically. “oh partner trust me, from tha way ya made her sound, she has completely changed” this actually made Ember quite unhappy, “well I guess that has deleted some ideas I had hoped for”, “why is everyone standing around, LETS PARTY”
