She had waited all this time. The glistening ruby heart around her neck glowed with power. Her usual half-necklace lay on the ground beside her, the brown string around it removed from it in order to let the power flow. Now she would get the power of the heart. Her sister would pay for what she did.
The dark forest was chilly with the fall air, as dry leaves blew in the wind. The moon was nearly hidden by the trees, and stars were unseeable as well. The forest was desolate and dry, a perfect place to plan and plot.
The cat's light cream fur, offset by dark patches, blowed gently in the wind of night. Her claws were somewhat long, and she stroked the gem with them. She sheathed her claws as she prepared to do the ceremony, or whatever you'd call it.
She focused as she kneeled, in the center of many heart shaped gems like the amulet on the gold necklace around her neck. But there was another gem as well.
A gray, spherical stone with a magenta gem set in the middle. She touched it, knowing it must hold great power. She could sense it. She had no idea what it would do, but it must do something. She giggled at that. It seemed naive of her to just go ahead and use it, but she needed all the power she could get.
The gems began to glow, a red light emanating from the main gem. Everything was going exactly as planned. She smiled. Princess Ava. Her perfect sister. She would finally fall.
Princess Ava had always been the favorite of the family, and, as the older sister, the next to ascend to the throne. Meanwhile, little Eva had been cast to the shadows. She never even got to protect anything. She did love her sister, but it was hard to when she was cast aside for the elder.
As a kit, she had always been blamed for everything. It was a little odd. What did she ever do? It felt cliche. Her teeth clenched at the memories, and her face became red.
The gems began to dull, and she tried to think of something else. The gems were powered by friendship. Why else would they be called the Friendship Hearts?
She thought about her two aloof dog sidekicks. She sometimes snapped at them, but they were friends. And friends do help, even when plotting to dethrone her sister. Even if they were dogs.
The gems began to glow anew. She smiled again. The gems lifted into the air. She closed her eyes as she was enveloped in a reddish glow. She calmly was lifted up into the dark air, and the gems began to circle slowly around her.
Suddenly, the six-pointed star set in the rock began to shine yellowish gold. It swirled fast and whirled as it grew larger, reacting oddly to the normal Friendship Hearts, and sucking them up.
Eva opened her eyes, and she struggled to make sense of what was going on. She gasped as she was sucked into the vortex of swirling gems. She was swirled in the portal and she wondered were she would be going.
She hoped Ava wasn't there, wherever she was going.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
A midnight blue mare trotted into the back garden of a castle. Her starry blue mane offset the night sky as she prepared to fly towards the forest for her nightly rounds. Luna's blue cape blew as the wind blew. She thought about Celestia.
Besides Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, she wondered if anypony else felt like her. Like their big sister was favored at times, maybe became jealous of her. Of course she loved Celestia, more than anything! She was alway there for her, even when she was mad at her.
Suddenly, a bright light filled the air, and Luna backed up, preparing a magical blast.
A small, creamy white cat with black patches was laying on the ground, clearly in pain. It was breathing, and it had something around its neck.
No! It can't be! Luna thought. An Element of Harmony! But they're in the Harmony Tree!
But, sure enough, a golden necklace with a red, heart shaped gem in the center.
Luna dimmed the magical blast. The cat clearly wasn't capable of doing any harm, other than cat stuff. No diseases or anything.
She tentatively trotted to the cat, as its chest rose and fell. Clearly, it was alive.
It slowly opened its eyes as Luna bent over it.
Then, it scratched her.
"Yow!" Luna yelled, jumping back and rubbing her muzzle.
"Who are you and where did you take me?" the cat said, bearing its teeth and claws. Judging by its voice, it was female.
"I am Princess Luna, co ruler of Equestria. Who are you?" Luna asked.
"I'm Princess Eva! What am I doing here?" Eva said defensively. She knew not to trust anyone until their motives are clear.
"How should I know? You just appeared here! Also, why so you have an Element of Harmony around your neck?" Luna said, asking the main question on her mind. A talking cat wasn't exactly weird. A talking dragon existed, so why not a cat?
"A what?" Eva asked. "This is the Friendship Heart! Not necessarily mine, though." she admitted.
"Where'd you get it?" Luna asked.
"My sister, Princess Ava. She makes me so mad sometimes." Eva gritted her teeth.
"I have a sister too. And she's a Princess too." Luna gasped.
"Is she older than you?" Eva asked.
"Yea." Luna answered.
"So, you are a lot like me." Eva said. "Maybe you can help me get back to my home."
"Sure, why not?" Luna smiled. "This will be quite fun!"
The cat climbed onto her back, and Luna trotted into the castle to look for Celestia.
Maybe she could make sense of this.
