starlight, starlight......
i remember it often.
i dont know what to call it, the best day of my life, and the worst day as well.
unlike my mother, who often went to sleep early, i would be staying up late, cursing my other side. i was always tired, tired, tired, but not able to sleep. most of my nights were spent looking off the balcony, watching the moon and stars while waiting for the return of my father.
my father, dark light, would always pack a few things to eat in his saddle-bags, maybe more, i never tryed to look. he would pick me up, hug me, kiss my forehead, then trotted to the balcony, jumping off, and taking flight, not coming back untill dawn.
waiting for him became boring, as i had read all the books i found in his study, because i had already read all of mine.
when he found me reading a dark magic book when he came back one day, he walked up to me and picked me up, holding me tightly in his magic aura.
" starlight, i dont want you ever, ever, trying to use some of the spells there. its something that you couldnt handle, that i couldnt handle. "
those words struck fear in me, as i had never seen him this angry. i promiced and begged that i would never, ever do them. after a while, he nodded, placing me down on the couch, snatching the book up, and marching away. i huddled on the floor, crying my eyes out before dragging myself to bed, where nightmares haunted me, nightmares of the images i had seen.
a while later, i decided to use a spell, just to see how it went. i made a list, gathering and snatching a few things away from fathers study, here and there.
i waited untill the right time, when father had just left
i wanted to try a spell that would, somehow, inhance the ponys magic. little did i know what it really was.
after i had gathered the right essencials, i mixed them up properly, then sparked what little magic i had to make it work.
i downed the awful potion in one gulp, not really feeling ill afects. i sighed, about to put the items away when a sudden blast of pain over took me. i screamed, unable to do anything as it just got worse and worse, then, blackness.
i opened my eyes to a dark forest, with whispers echoing around me. i nervously waked through it, jumping at every little sound i heard. " how... did this enhance my powers.....? " i wondered. I tried lifting up a stick with my magic, to no avail.
biting my lip, i carryed on, something telling me where i needed to go. as i walked around, fear starting to take ahold, the whispers came louder, as more and more shadows, animals, whatever they were started to move faster, darting away as soon as i looked.
was that a pair of eyes? was that the glint of teeth? did it just hiss?
those thoughts were running through my head as i tryed to calm down.
" i... its ok... its just my imagenation...... " i kept telling myself over and over as my heart raced. sudenly the whispers stopped.
"....... its all real....... is... all REAL. "
a sickening voice came from the shadows as things jumped down from the trees, there red eyes glinting at me.
i screamed, racing through the trees, sobbing as trees, sticks, and plants all reached out, grabbing my legs, holding me back.
the creatures were almost apon me, as i sobbed, staring up at the moon, strangly the only thing i could really see as darkness closed around me.
" help me!!!! any pony!!!! please!!! " i cryed out, as something bit my leg. i was being dragged, kicking and screaming.
suddenly, there was a bright flash of white light as the creatures let go. standing before my eyes, was princess luna.
i starte at her in awe, my fears forgotten, as she leaned down. " in the future, do not mess with dark magic, little one. " she said softly, as another flash happened. blinding me.
i was whisked in and out of consciousness
my mother, crying as she was running, holding me tightly in her magic aura.
my father, arguing with someone, pointing at my direction every so often.
being carryed down a bright hall, with what looked like.... guards?
being layed down on something soft, and a bitter liquid being forced down my throught, as i tryed not to choke.
a soft voice, echoing around me. " she will be safe here........ i will do everything i can..... she will hopefully be fine.... keep a eye on her..... "
then silence, and peace.

i awoke, hot, and somehow shivering. i blinked, and looked around. i didnt recognise where i was, in some room, not my own.
the walls were a soft shade of purple, as the roof was painted to look like a starry night sky. i sat up, looking at the soft pillows on the bed, and pushed away the navy blue canopy. i heard hoof steps coming from outside the heavy door. afraid for my safety i ducked under the soft pillows,in a effort to hide. the hoof steps came closer, then stopped altogether. i moved a pillow ever so slowly, to see if i could see out.... i squinted. all i was was a light blue.... fur? i sat in confusion for moment, as suddenly the pillows were lifted off of me. i gasped to see a frendly, blue face in front of me, the same face that saved me.
" princess luna....? " i said, suprised at how rasp my voice was. luna smiled, and nodded.
" we are sorry if we have disturbed thou. we were just checking up, from the events of last night. " lunas face became darker as she dropped the pillow. " what was though thinking? meddling with that kind of magic? thou could have been killed! " luna said, her royal canterlot voice about to turn on.
i pressed myself against the pillow, and held it up as a sheild. "i... im sorry... i just thought it was a talent... enhancer spell...... to make my magic a bit better? " i managed to say, as my mouth strangly felt like sand paper. "its just... i wouldnt have read the bad book if i already studyed all my other books.... and i wanted something to do waiting for father to come back, and i already learned everything from the other books, and i just wanted something newer,so i read it - " i would have continued, if not for the navy blue hoof suddenly being pressed against my mouth.
luna looked like she was trying to supress amusement.
" your saying thou wanted to learn something new? because... the other books have already been studyed?" she said, watching me closely, a amused twinkle in her eyes. i nodded, still not able to speak. luna dropped her hoof away with a sigh. " i see. unfortunetly, you picked the wrong book to try to study from. " she said, sitting down. " your father belives its best if you stay here... for a while, for me to watch you in case... the spell does anything else."
i looked down, biting my lip. " what about school... i mean, i dont really have friends, but its nice to learn something new and not just the same things. " i said, trying not to sound like a egghead, or even worse, selfish. i heard luna sigh.
" your a smart filly, starlight. smarter them most your age. i would be glad to teach you some things... if you would like-" this time, it was luna who didnt finish, as i had bolted up, hugging her.
" REALLY? " i gasped, feeling like the luckiest filly in the world. " you would teach me? oh thank you thank you thank you! " i squealed as luna laughed, picking me up off her and placing me back down on the bed.
" if you want to learn, i will teach. i have nothing to do, otherwise, since my sister has a student of her own. i think it would be best if i had got one, and thou would be terribly bored just sitting here doing nothing. " luna said, a twinkle in her eye. she leaned foward. " you must promice that you will only start with the small stuff. no dark spells, like the one you attempted. "
i nodded.
" good. once thou hast eaten, we shall begin. " luna said, a smile on her face as she walked out of the room.
