Chapters 1. Crush on the Farm Pony
Young Princess Crystal Heart’s horn sparked cyan with excitement as she tried to keep up with her class. Ponyville was a new place to her. “Now, I am your field trip leader, Mrs. Groundroot,” stated a red-brown earth pony with an orange mane, “and this is my son, Seed Sprout.” A brown colt with a dark green mane peeked out from behind his mother and squeaked. The wealthy unicorns giggled, while Crystal Heart’s eyes shaped shifted into blue hearts, sparks flew from her horn.
“Chryssie? Equestria to Princess Crystal Heart. It‘s your mom here.” Princess Cadance said, snapping her love struck daughter back into reality. Her classmates must have seen the whole love-form thing, because they where all staring right at her.
“Crystal has a crush on the farm pony!” an orange unicorn named Starsearch said. Then the whole room burst into a fit of laughter. Crystal ran into the utility closet, only to be followed by Seed Sprout.
“Hello?” Sprout walked into the closet, “Wanna, ya know, be field trip partners?” he asked. Crystal hugged him.
“As long as you don’t treat me like a princess… okay!” She said. The pair trotted out of the closet together.
“You know even after all… this, I still like you a lot.” Said a neon green colt named Evergreen.
“Out of our way, Nevergreen.” Crystal Heart said. She trotted away, Seed Sprout by her side.

Short, but this is just the prologue.
“Mom!!!!! I think I’m in love!” Crystal Heart half-screamed to her mother.
“That’s great Chryssie! Now, who is the lucky unicorn?” Princess Cadance said, eager to know more about her daughter’s crush.
“U- unicorn?” stammered Crystal. Unicorn? Who said her crush was a unicorn?
“Yes darling. It says in law that a princess can only be with a wealthy Canterlot unicorn!” Cadance said. Tears welled up in Crystal’s eyes.
“Well, my crush is a poor Ponyville earth pony. You’re the princess of love, you understand… right?” Crystal said, half-crying. Cadance shook her head. Crystal ran to her room, crying. What? She was basically the crystal heart in pony form.
“It- it’s not fair! Why shouldn’t I get to be with who I want?” she said into her pillow. 'I know! I’ll ask dad!' She thought. She flew into her father’s room.
“Dad I have a crush on an earth pony so…” she paused, “should I follow love or law?” she said.
“Honey Bun, you’ll get over it. It’s just a schoolgirl crush, nothing more.” Shining Armor said. Crystal stomped out the door, bumping into the captain of the royal guards, Evergreen.
“Hello, my dear. Having a bad day? Perhaps my good looks will help.” he said.
“Out of my way, Nevergreen.” Crystal said. For some reason, she had never liked that self-centered pony. She flew out of the castle. “Why doesn’t anypony understand me?” she said. She knew she would visit Seed Sprout the next day. Yes, Seed Sprout. He was the one, the one for her. Crystal just couldn’t help but start singing.
I never got why they don’t let me choose The one that is right for me I can make my own choices I thought that I was free
They urge me to take That self-centered Evergreen But I just don’t think That he is right for me
They just don’t understand That love breaks all laws And Seed Sprout is the best colt I have ever saw
I’ve just never seen why They don’t let him in While to me above all others He will always win
Why does law say the stupidest things I want to bring that law out of the ring that stupid unreasonable law the worst thing I ever saw
She cried herself to sleep that night, not wanting to go back inside.
2. A Visit to Soil-Down Farm
“Princess Crystal Heart, you have a letter from Soil-Down farm in Ponyville.” said Heart Letters, the Crystal Empire royal adviser, to a teen-aged Crystal Heart. Crystal grabbed the letter with her magic and opened the piece of parchment. It read:
Dearest Princess Crystal Heart,
I am sending this letter to inform you that we are running low on seeds, as well as money. We are wondering if you could supply us of just a few bits to buy seeds, so we may eat during the winter. We contact you because of smallest duties.
Thank you for your time, Seed Sprout
Seed Sprout. Crystal had heard that name before. She just knew she had. “Inform my mother that I am going to Ponyville.” She ordered Heart Letters.
“Hello? Anypony here?” Crystal called. Why had this ‘Seed Sprout’ asked her to come if he would not be there himself?
“Evi, I’m not giving you free…” Said a tired-looking brown earth colt with a dark green mane.
“Who is this ‘Evi’ you speak of?” Crystal said, trying to keep in character.
“Oh, Princess! I am so sorry. I’m Seed Sprout, the one who called you here.” said the bowing colt.
“Please, no ‘princess’. I am Crystal to you.” Crystal Heart replied. She could not keep her act up any longer, for there was something special about this colt. She made two carts appear, one filled with bits and the other with food.
“I… I don’t know what to say. Thank you!” Seed Sprout said in awe. “Please let me prepare you a meal with some of this amazing food.” Crystal giggled.
“As long as you prepare some for yourself as well.”
Crystal and Sprout sat down and started to eat steaming mashed potatoes over chicken stir-fry. “You know, I think I recognize you.” Crystal said. Sprout’s ears perked up at this.
“Follow me.” he said. He led Crystal to what seemed like a wall. Then he pushed a brick on the wall. Inside where books after books after books. "These are timelines for everypony in our family.” he explained. He walked far into the back and pulled out a book entitled ‘Seed Sprout’. He opened it up to a picture of him as a foal with… Crystal?
“I… you… Ponyville… field trip?” Crystal stuttered. Her eyes shaped shifted into blue hearts, sparks flew from her horn. The day flashed in her head.
“Crystal? Equestria to Princess Crystal Heart. “It’s Seed Sprout.” Sprout said to the once again love struck Crystal Heart.
“I… I need to go.” said Crystal. “Wait till I tell Mom!” She exclaimed.
