Equestria's Darkest Days

*!CRACK!* The storm outside Twilights castle window brewed with ever greater intensity, brilliant flashes of lighting cascaded across the sky creating deafening booms of thunder. *!CRACK!*

"Um..... Twilight...... Are you awake?" Spike asked as he slowly entered her room and approached her bedside.

"Twilight......... Twilight, are you awake?" Spike asked again.

"Well, I am now" Twilight said groggily and a bit annoyed.

"Twilight, I cant sleep......." Said Spike

"What's wrong, Spike?" asked Twilight while rubbing her eyes with her hoof.

"It's this new castle, it's just too big and to be honest it's a little creepy too. And I miss having my old bed" Spike said in a sad tone of voice.

"I'm sorry Spike, there's nothing I can do about your old bed, and I thought you said you liked the new castle, you even have your own room now!" Twilight exclaimed.

"I do, but I just cant get over how empty it feels. It doesn't feel like home..... And not to mention the noises I keep hearing in the hallway!" Spike explained.

Twilight sighed, "Do you wanna sleep in here tonight?" Twilight asked partly smiling.

"Well.... If it wouldn't be to much trouble......" Spike said nervously

"None at all" Said Twilight cheerfully

"well if you insist" Spike said excitedly as he ran off to get his pillow and blanket.

Twilight just rolled her eyes and smiled turning to a large window on the other side of the room just in time to see a bright flash of purple lightning reaching through the clouds and touching down somewhere in the Everfree forest. She squinted and tilted her head to the side a bit. She'd never seen purple lightning before, and she'd never read anything about it either, and the strangest part was she didn't hear any thunder after seeing it. She'd expected the thunder to happen almost instantly because of how close the lightning was, it usually only takes a few seconds for the thunder to follow the lightning...... One minute....... Two minutes....... Four minutes....... No thunder.....

"Hey, Twilight! I'm back!" Spike exclaimed slightly startling Twilight.

"Good. Now we can all get some rest." Said Twilight just before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep
