04. Thank You

Previous Chapter

It's been quite the boring day, really. The only one who made this day better than boring was Spike which practically—like a child—tries to have fun with everything around. His smile never leaves his face when I take him to a fun trip mounted on my back. Even though sometimes his claws bothers me, I put up with it and try—and succeed—to have fun along. Everything went well with Major Mare as I expected, and Spike and I are writing the letter to Princess Celestia on the way back. As I speak and manage to focus on maintaining the balance of Spike on my back, he supports the paper above my unbelievable long and ginger hair while scribbling every single one of the words that come out of my mouth. To be blunt, I'm surprised Spike can keep up with my speaking pace; I think even I would have trouble writing like this. Specially if the situation is the same as Spike.

"Prince spike, allow me to admit you have really astonishing skills when you are called for," I say. Spike seems confused with the words, so I roll my eyes and simplify so he can understand better. "You're awesome, to be short."

He raises his hand with the feather to the air and push away all the confusion from the previous sentence opening a smile. "Thank you, Ginger!"

"At your service, sir." He giggles and goes back to the letter, scanning it once again to see if something should be corrected. This nice walk went on and soon enough we were already nearing Twilight's Oak Library with the almost done letter. Today was better than I expected. As soon as I enter I see somepony specific sleeping in the couch, so peaceful. It should be considered a sin to wake up such an angel form it's peaceful slumber in a day so calm as this.

I just hope she's having nice dreams. I think to myself.

"Spike, did we finish the letter yet?" I rush the baby dragon to get it done as soon as possible only to do the remaining things as fast.

He scribbles a little faster on a second scroll above the main room table while looking to the first one. It never ceases to impress me his skills on writing. His tongue is outside for the whole world to see and his concentration may not be interrupted; it seems like he's inside his own world. As I said before, it's amazing."Yes," still admiring his masterpiece, he pull me out of my trance with a single word and in a few movements he hand over the scribbled scroll to me. I read all of the written words over and over, looking for any kind of mistake, but everything seems to be fine and well done.

"This will do," I conclude. "Thank you, Spike." We bump fist with claw and look into each other eyes, both showing one and the only feeling of respect. After we broke the moment the awkward silence took the place all over and Spike again is the one to fix it.

"So, what now?" he asks, genuinely curious.

"I need it to be in the princesses ha---hooves." I scratch my nape in embarrassment, but nevertheless I moved on. "Would you be a dear after you send it and help me with the bookshelf?" I hand him back the yellow fragment as slow as a turtle.

"Of course!" He takes the scroll from my hands and soon after breathe the magical green fire outside, caring not to burn the surroundings and only targeting the piece of paper. "Let's start!"

~~

"Hm~" she moans and tries to stretch every muscle she can to relax once more in the bed before raising from the slumber chamber. This really was pleasing. I wonder how's he doing by himself. Even though he said for her to trust him, she couldn't resist getting worried about him and her assistant wandering around town on their own. But all her worries left her slight slender body in a single second when she saw Ginger and the baby dragon organizing the books in the bookshelf in an amazingly synchronized teamwork and both of them seem to be having fun. And that's when Twilight's ear perk up to Spike's direction.

"DONE!" Spike screams and the shout echoes through the library and all of its rooms and depths, then catching the attention of Ginger which is on the other side of the room. He groans and finish his side of the bookshelf.

"I was so damn close!" They still didn't notice her presence and she decided to see where this was going.

"I do it basically everyday with Twilight, but you really were fast enough to catch up." He approaches his new bro, opening a helping hand to help him to get up. Taking this opportunity to avenge his loss, he pulls the baby dragon as fast as his body allows close to him and starts to tickle him with all the might and proud that's left after this defeat. Spike can't stop laughing, so as the tickler. After Spike declares defeat to him both bump fists and smile to each other.

"Oh, so cute those two," the spectator alicorn, owner of the library says out loud enough for both of them to hear it. Ginger approaches Twilight and pulling her closer he give her a peck on her lips. The blush on her face is priceless as always and the wings are a little stiffened, but he pays not too much attention on these details.

"Good afternoon, sleepyhead," slowly and smoothly he caress her mane and cheeks with those wonderful fingers then whisper to her. "How's your day? Did you call the girls?" The moment he finishes the sentence, she realizes she forgot to do the only thing that he allowed her to do the whole day and facehoof herself for this stupidity she just committed.

"Oh no, I was brushing my hair in the bed and... I fell asleep. I'll call—"

"Say no more. I'll take care of it for you." He let go of her and she kind of tilt her head to feel at least a bit more of his grasp but it's useless and he grab his part-time assistant to prepare and leave. "Will you help me, prince Spike?"

"But, Ginger—"

"Twilight, you deserve this rest. Let me take care of it," he insist once again with a quite convincing look on his face. Even though she's staring to Ginger's face she can't let the poor thing do her obligations all by himself. She wouldn't forgive herself if she did

"Yeah, but I don't..." She attempt to protest but her mouth simply idn't want to continue the same discussion of the morning all over again. Ginger saw that she's too uncomfortable by seeing him doing everything while she stay put in place doing nothing to help. it was making her feel really bad, and that's the last thing he wants her to feel.

"Ok, just so you don't go unsatisfied, I'll call only Fluttershy for you. I don't know where all the other five live anyway, so there will be no problem." Once again he turn around and with Spike on his shoulder he's ready to leave the house. It's rather cold but he knows he can take it with no problem.

"Ginger wait..." She still rties to call his attention and pull part of his sleeve to do so. It works and once again she's caught herself hypnotized by those enigmatic nut-brown eyes of his. "Thank you for being considerate with me."

Now it's Ginger's turn to be hypnotized by those wonderful irises, her flushed round cheeks and perfect muzzle and lips, made to love and to be loved. There's simply no way to escape this kind of magic. "No problem, Sugarcube." The human show her the best smile he can before turning around and leaving the house right away.
