Mike's Equestrian Adventures
Mike slammed his bedroom door shut, tears rolling down his face. His mother had just embarrassed him again, but this time it was much more personal. This was the fifth time this month that his mother had brought up the fact that he was a brony whilst their family was out in public. Mike’s mother had seen a small child wearing two plastic My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic rings. On one was a depiction of Pinkie Pie, on the other was Rainbow Dash. Mike’s mother had pointed out these rings to him, and in doing so attracted glaring looks and smirks from onlookers. This was the first time Mike had ever broken down crying in front of other people.
“Why can’t you just leave me alone and let me live my life the way I want to?” Mike sobbed into his pillow. “You always ruin everything! You embarrass me in front of other people, and even when I beg you to stop, you just persist!” Mike was practically yelling into his pillow at this point, even though he had gone hoarse from crying a long time ago.
Mike slammed his fist on the bed in rage. He looked around his room at the various My Little Pony memorabilia and instantly his anger turned into pure rage. He got up slowly and picked up a small wooden bat from his nearby dresser, the kind that they sell at gift shops at baseball stadiums. He picked up a small figurine of the character Fluttershy and smashed it to pieces.
“This is YOUR fault!” He yelled as he brought the bat down, smashing the yellow figurine to pieces. “If YOU hadn’t come along, then my mother wouldn’t constantly embarrass me, and my life wouldn’t be so miserable!” He brought the bat down a second time, and then a third, and a fourth, and so on, turning any remaining pieces into shards of plastic. He looked down at the small pile of yellow fragments and tears, and instantly his rage subsided.
“No… it’s not your fault,” He said, his thoughts now clear. He bent down and cradled whatever he could salvage from the pile of broken bits in his muscular arms. “It’s her fault,” he said, referring to his mother. “If she didn’t always speak so poorly of me and humiliate me like this, then maybe I could actually go places without attracting remarks from people. ‘Hey look, it’s that pony-lover! Let’s go beat him up!’ ‘What’s the matter, your pony friends aren’t here to save you? Tough luck, pony-boy.’ ‘Grow some balls for once!’” Cried Mike through his tears of anger, mocking the people who had mocked him. His eyes were red and burning from all of his sobbing.
Mike thought about his parents, about the insults, about everything, and suddenly came to a conclusion that would have shocked just about anyone.
“I’m going to disown my mother. Maybe then I’ll finally get some respect from people before she can turn them away.”
The thought filled Mike with sadness as he thought of how heartbroken his mother would be, but those feelings of sadness were quickly shooed away by the memories of the public humiliation she had caused him. “No… this is my decision, and it has to be done.
It was a rainy Tuesday morning as Mike was driving to the courthouse. This was it, the big day. It had been almost 2 months since he decided to legally disown his mother, and not once had he thought about going back on his decision. This was what had to be done, this was the only way for him to grow up to be respected. He thought about the night when he smashed the figurine, when he had decided to disown his parents, and it filled him with sadness. He knew in his heart, though, that this was what had to be done and what was going to be done.
As he took his exit to get on the highway to the courthouse, though, he thought about something. Maybe he was being too extreme when he made the decision. Maybe he was just upset. Besides, he knew that his mother still loved him, no matter what.
At that moment, Mike may have known what he needed to do. Heck, he may have even thought about turning around and calling the whole thing off. He might have thought about running home to his mother’s warm embrace and apologizing for everything he had done. But none of it mattered, because all of these thoughts would have been cut short by the truck that crashed headfirst, at over 60 miles per hour, into the side of his father’s Honda Civic.
Shards of glass went flying in all directions. Airbags probably deployed, but it didn’t matter, because Mike’s head went soaring through the windshield before then. The last thing Mike heard before he passed out was the sound of ambulance sirens and the concerned chatter of onlookers.
When Mike finally came to his senses, he was too tired to open his eyes, so he lay there for a while trying to visualize what happened. “I remember the car getting totaled, and the ambulance sirens, but what happened after that? I… ugh, my head.” He thought to himself. Oddly enough, though, other than his head, which felt like it was about to explode, he felt no pain whatsoever. He looked down at his limbs to evaluate his wounds, but what he saw instead shocked him.
He had no feet, and no hands for that matter. In fact, his arms and legs just sort of stopped and ended at a stub, almost like… no, it couldn’t be. He looked down at his haunches and saw something that nearly made him pass out a second time. A tail, Mike thought to himself, looking at the new brown-and-black appendage. Now why on earth do I have a tail?
Mike, now wide awake, began to survey his surroundings. Everything was bright and colorful. He was in the middle of a meadow, full of the most beautiful flowers he had ever seen. He looked up at the sky. There wasn’t a single cloud. The sky was a bright, beautiful shade of blue. He looked back at what surrounded him, and he saw a lake by a beautiful, luscious forest of lively green trees.
“Wow,” Mike thought out loud. “This place is nice. Where am I exactly?” He glanced back up at the cloudless blue sky and saw something that he wasn’t expecting. It nearly made his heart jump out of his chest. Is that… a horse? With wings? Mike’s mind instantly raced back to the TV show he used to watch, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. He instantly knew where he was. His anatomical changes all made sense now, the bright colors, the flying horse. He knew it couldn’t be true though. After all, that was just a TV show, right? Nothing more, nothing less.
Mike raced over to the pond by the forest and looked at his reflection. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
Mike was now a yellow-maned, brown-skinned, and green-eyed pony. He was in Equestria.
Mike was too overjoyed to think. All he managed to shout out before he passed out was “Finally, a place where I can be happy!”
And just like that, Mike was back on the ground, passed out in his new equestrian body.

Let's Meet the Ponies! Part 1
Mike finally came to his senses a few hours later. He still had the same splitting headache. What happened? He thought to himself, trying to recall the events that had recently occurred. I remember the car crash, and then… being transported to Equestria, he thought, still not believing the words for himself. Did it really happen? Was I actually sent to Equestria?
His thoughts were cut short by a shrill, happy voice. “Good morning, sleepyhead!” the voice called out. “I was starting to get worried. I thought you’d never wake up!”
“What… where am I?” Mike groaned, sitting up in what he now realized was a bed, complete with a pink bedspread covered in clusters of balloons.
“You’re in my house, silly filly! Welcome to Casa de la Pinkie Pie!” At this remark, Mike immediately recognized the voice… but no, it couldn’t be.
“Pinkie Pie?” Mike said in a confused tone.
“That’s what I just said, didn’t I?” said the party pony.
Mike could tell that the pink mare sitting in the corner of the room was just as cheery and upbeat as she was on the show. Her hair was poofy and went all over the place, and her unmistakable balloon-shaped cutie mark was displayed on her flanks.
“What am I doing here?” asked Mike to no one in particular. “I remember waking up in a meadow, realizing where I was, and then almost immediately passing out again, and then… I don’t really know what happened next.”
“Well,” Pinkie began. “I was on my way to get a potion from Zecora to help enhance the flavor of my cupcakes, but then I saw somepony lying on the ground, and I couldn’t just leave them there!”
Mike knew she was obviously referring to him. “But you hardly even know me! For all you know, I could’ve been a criminal or something! Why would you help me?”
Her next words echoed in Mike’s head, bouncing around, and not full settling in for what seemed like forever. “Because that’s what friends do, silly!”
Friend… The word, although it probably didn’t mean as much to her, hit Mike like a wrecking ball. His stomach felt like it had dropped right out of his body. “You consider me to be your… friend?” he said, still awestruck at the fact that Pinkie Pie was referring to him as a friend as though they had known each other for years, and not for just a few minutes.
“Well, why wouldn’t I? I’m always excited to make new friends!”
There it was, that word again. Friend. He still couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Mike had never had very many friends back in his own world, and even though some people acted as though they liked him, he knew that the only reason they acted that way was because they felt sorry for him. He had never truly had a friend before.
“Wow… That’s really nice of you to say…” Mike finally managed to choke out. He was so overwhelmed with happiness not only at the fact that all of this was really happening, but also at the fact that this pony wanted to be friends with a guy –or pony, I suppose -like him.
“Well, that’s enough of the chit chat!” Pinkie piped up after what felt like an eternity. “There are a few of my friends I want to introduce you to.” Pinkie bent over and picked up a small green reptile on the floor. “This is my pet, Gummy! Say hello, Gummy!”
At hearing this, the small alligator immediately jumped out of Pinkie’s hoof and latched on to Mike’s face. “AH! GET IT OFF ME! IT’S TRYING TO KILL ME!” yelled Mike, fearing for his life.
“Aww, that means he likes you! It’s good to see you two are getting off to such a great start!” said Pinkie, pulling the alligator from Mike’s face.
Mike collected his thoughts and began to look around. Streamers and banners of all different lengths and colors adorned the walls of Pinkie’s bedroom, and balloons were tied just about anywhere that it was possible to tie a balloon. Mike noticed a wheel poking out from behind Pinkie’s dresser and instantly recognized the party cannon.
Pinkie noticed where Mike had directed his gaze. “Ah, I see you like my party cannon! Want me to give you a demonstration?” Mike furiously shook his head no, but the party pony had already grabbed him by the hoof and dragged him over to the location of the party cannon.
“You ready?” She said as she dragged the cannon out onto the balcony of her second-story room. Mike nervously nodded his head, not wanting to disappoint his new friend. Pinkie pulled a matchbox seemingly out of nowhere, struck it against the box, and then, remembering that her cannon didn’t have a fuse, threw it away and slammed her hoof on the rear of the cannon’s barrel.
An explosion of colorful confetti and streamers erupted out of the cannon, covering the balcony and the street below with a glittering rainbow of color, and at that moment, Mike did something that he hadn’t done in almost two months: he smiled a big, goofy smile.
“I take it that you enjoyed my little presentation?” said Pinkie.
Mike couldn’t help himself any longer. He collapsed to the floor and started laughing like a madman. His hind legs kicked about in the air while his forelegs grasped his chest, greedily gasping for air any moment he got the chance. “Are you kidding? That was the greatest thing I’ve seen in my entire life!” he shouted, in between gasps of much-needed air.
And that was what surprised him. He knew that he had seen funnier things before, yet this still struck him as absolutely hilarious! Had it just been that long since he had felt any sort of happiness?
Pinkie waited patiently for her new friend to calm down. She loved to make people laugh, and she didn’t want to cut this short for either of their sakes.
When Mike had finished with his maniacal fit of laughter, Pinkie knelt down next to him. “You okay? I would think that laughing that much would drive anypony insane!”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Mike said, tears of joy still rolling down his face.
“Great!” said Pinkie. “Because there’s still a few of my friends who I know will want to see you.” Pinkie said.
The two ponies walked towards the entrance, heading out the door into a world that Mike couldn’t wait to see more of.
