The Dragon Knight, The Dragon Priest, And The Dragonborn
Chapter 1: Arrival
Load Full StoryNext ChapterHelrek grunted as he felt his aching bones and sore muscles begin to awaken, and groaned as he lifted his gauntlets over his eyes, rubbing them before he sat up. He wasn't used to waking up this way, in his armor of all things, and was more used to waking up in a bedroll, or possibly in a bed. But waking up on the hard ground, with no idea how he got there, was still a little hard for him to adjust to. So, with a sigh, he hefted himself up to his feet, and began to look around.
He was in a forest for starters, and it was rather thick, making the woods in parts of Skyrim look more peaceful and relaxed. He could see strange vegetation around him, as well as the sounds of a river nearby. There were eyes among the darker parts, which seemed to keep track of his movements, and he could see that it was nighttime, somewhere around midnight. Like when he lost consciousness.
He took a step forward, and felt his Steel Plate Boots bump into something, causing him to look down, and saw a large sack on the ground. This made him raise an eyebrow, lift it up, and looked inside, seeing nothing but blackness. This caused him to grow confused, and stuff his gauntlet in there, going deep in until he felt what must have been a coin pouch, and pulled it out, revealing it was indeed a coin pouch. He put it back in, and searched some more, not feeling the bottom of it, but instead the hilt of a Skyforge Steel Sword, which he pulled out with ease, and raised an eyebrow.
As he examined the blade, he heard a groan to his left, making him look over and spot that Argonian he's been traveling with, and Givan a few feet to the other side. The Argonian pulled off his Daedric Helmet, and spat out some blood as he wiped his mouth. He must have taken a harder hit then Helrek, because he didn't feel any blood anywhere.
The Argonian stood up, and dusted himself off, before giving a raised, spiky eyebrow at Helrek, and spoke in his deep and gravely voice. "Didn't expect to wake up to the sight of you, though it's a nice sight instead of one of those Bears."
Helrek chuckled lightly, and wrapped the sack around his shoulder so it'd hang next to his waist, and looked at the Argonian's feet, seeing another sack. "I'd suggest taking that sack, might come in handy."
The Argonian looked down at it, then nodded as he tied it around his shoulder as well. He then stretched his arms out a bit, and pulled the gauntlets off, stuffing them in the sack. He then looked to the side at Givan. "Should we wake him up?"
Helrek nodded, and walked over to the Dragon Priest, before kicking him in the side, which made Givan shoot up to a sitting position, and had flames in his hands as he glared daggers at Helrek, until they settled as he spoke. "By Talos, you scared me to death."
Helrek rolled his eyes as he offered his hand, which the elf in robes took, and he lifted him up. He then glanced at the Argonian. "Hey, let's go, I don't think it's best to stay here."
The Argonian simply nodded as he slid the helmet back on, and gripped the Daedric sword that sat along his hip. Helrek then tossed the last sack on the ground to Givan, who caught it with a raised eyebrow, but didn't question as he figured he'd find out later. They three then began heading towards the sound of the river, given they always do such when lost. They needed to find a way out of here, and get to safety. Maybe a nearby village, or a city.
They soon arrived at the river, and saw how calm it was, which made them smile and began looking around. That is until they spotted a giant Serpent in the river, causing them to draw their swords (or magic for Givan), while Helrek spoke. "Keep calm, just in case he speaks like the Dovah."
The others slowly nodded in response, and spotted the massive serpent coming over, then lower down with a smile. "Why hello there! You three must be new here, right?" The three looked at each other in confusion. "Say, you three wouldn't happen to be following those six nice mares, would you?"
Helrek stepped forward at that, sheathing his sword. "No, actually. We just woke up a mile or so away, and were curious where the closest village was. Do you think they might know?"
The serpent nodded with a smile. "I'm sure they do, go ahead and head after them."
The three nodded, and moved through the river, before setting off back into the forest. That was when Givan spoke. "So... that serpent was friendly, I guess... but what did he mean by 'mares'. I don't understand how six horses could help us."
The Argonian shrugged. "I gave up trying to understand stuff since I became a hybrid, given that it was thought to be impossible."
Givan hummed slightly. "I suppose that could POSSIBLY be the reason, but I'd rather have an understanding before continuing on." He sighed. "I suppose we'll figure it out once we find them."
The other two nodded in response as they continued on. Seeing that they soon arrived at a weak looking rope bridge, leading over to some ruins. This made Helrek smirk. "Looks like it's time to begin adventuring." He looked at the other two. "Feel like investigating these ruins ahead?"
The Argonian simply shrugged, while Givan sighed. "I would rather find a village first for if we find anything worth selling."
Helrek chuckled lightly. "I'm sure we'll figure it out. Now come on, let's go."
They walked over to the bridge, and went across one at a time, given how weak it felt under their feet. Once they were across, they headed for the ruins, and went inside, examining around them, and saw that all it really had was a statue in the center. This made Givan speak. "Interesting, these markings on the statue are quite intriguing, don't you agree, Helrek?"
Helrek simply shrugged, and placed his gauntlet on the dusty stone, brushing it away, and examined the words. "Hmm... they do not appear to be Dragon, nor Man... they seem almost... confusing." He took a closer look. "They aren't completely confusing, to tell the truth, but that might be because of the Dragon Souls I've got."
Givan slowly nodded. "Indeed, our Dragon Souls could explain why we understand this at all."
The Argonian then spoke as he looked out a window. "We better check out that tower, I see lights coming from it."
The others walked over and looked out the window as well, seeing the lights, which made them nod and rush over to the stairwell, before running up them, and soon reached the top. This made them grow confused as they spotted six, floating... horses? Which were rather small, and there was another one up ahead, who was screaming out something, before a bright light blinded them temporarily.
They soon could see again, and saw the six horses on the ground, with the bigger one being smaller now. This made them even more confused, until they heard the horses talking, TALKING! They were talking to each other now, which made Helrek whisper to the others. "Um... you said you gave up on normality, right?"
The Argonian nodded, whispering back. "Yeah, so this is quite new."
Just then a much taller, and white horse glided into the room, and began to speak to the horses, addressed the smaller one, then looked straight at them as she spoke. "Ah, I see my spell to summon them has worked."
All the horses looked at the three, and went wide eyed and slack-jawed, which made the three grow worried, and Helrek spoke with a defeated sigh. "Yep, we're going to die."
Givan then spoke. "How is it even possible that they even talk?!"
Then finally the Argonian, who simply shrugged.
The horses were even more wide eyed when the three spoke, while the white horse stepped towards them. "I am sure you three a very confused."
Helrek nodded, taking the diplomatic route. "Yes, given that we woke up in a forest, with sacks that hold much room, and apparently talking horses... We are rather confused, yes."
The horse smiled at this. "Then let me begin with saying welcome to Equestria. My name is Princess Celestia, and we are a race known as ponies."
The three immediately kneeled down to her, The Argonian took off his helmet, which earned gasps, and Givan pulled down his hood, even Helrek pulled off his steel, horned helmet as he spoke. "It is a great honor to stand before royalty, your highness."
Princess Celestia giggled slightly and waved it off. "No need for that, for you three have more skills then I could hold."
The three carefully stood up, while the unicorn in the back spoke. "What do you mean, Princess? How are they more skilled?"
Celestia smiled at them. "For starters, they can slay, and consume the souls of dragons, which make them even stronger then they once were." The ponies gasped, while Celestia held a sad look. "It also forces them to live that dragon's life, and hold it's secrets as they carry on to defend their home from them." She then looked at Givan. "He has great specialty in magic, and I only brought him here for if your magic was not strong enough, my faithful student, for he holds magic that is far stronger then yours."
Givan waved it off. "Given where we are, that's probably not true."
Celestia smirked at him. "We will see." She then looked at the Argonian. "And this creature, is by far the most skilled. He has what one pony could almost never get, he is the hybrid of a Werewolf and a Vampire."
The ponies gasped in response, as the white one spoke. "HE'S A WHAT?!"
Celestia looked at her. "Do not worry, for he has control over his powers, and doesn't truly use them unless necessary."
The Argonian simply nodded.
"Also, he has been alive for around 4000 years, possibly even more, which would make him close to my age." More gasps. "He is truly a powerful warrior, who does what he thinks is right. So please treat him well."
Helrek waved his hands at that. "Whoa there, hold on! Are you telling us we're staying here?!"
Celestia gave a small smile. "Yes, actually, I am. The world is changing, and I know that. If I do not find suitable fighters for Equestria, it will fall." She then smiled a little. "Do not worry, you will not be the only ones, at least I think you won't. I'm not sure if my magic is strong enough to go father then your world."
Givan slapped himself, blinked a few times, then spoke. "Why does this always happen to me?" He then folded his arms and sighed heavily.
Celestia gave another soft smile. "I apologize if this has upset you three, but we truly need you here, to protect our home. And after watching you three protect your own home, I find you three most fitting for the job. Please, do stay here, for our land will fall otherwise."
The three looked between each other, before sighing heavily as Helrek nodded. "Alright, we'll stay."
Celestia smiled widely now. "Wonderful! I am sure you will just love our land, and I promise to make it most appealing for you. Also, I will have to talk to the royal guards and the citizens of Ponyville and Canterlot about you."
The Argonian gave out a small sigh. "This is going to be a long day."
...
Helrek, Givan, and the Argonian sat there as the massive party continued going, and exchanged looks with one another before sighing heavily. They do not know why they accepted staying honestly, but they did, and now they were stuck there. But at least the populace didn't go into panic once the Princess explained everything to them. And now they were a bit confused since they will be staying with the unicorn known as Twilight Sparkle.
Givan stared at the strange form of bread with frosting on it in his hands, and gave it a small sniff, which made him stare at it with even more confusion, then speak. "What could this possibly be? Is it like those Sweet Rolls back home?"
Helrek shrugged as he took one, gave a cautious sniff, and bit into it. This made him smile and sit back while he chewed, then swallowed. "Beats me, but they sure do taste good."
Givan gave him a raised eyebrow, and bit into the food, which made him moan lightly while a stream of tears went down his cheeks. "By the Nine, this is the most delicious sweet I've ever had!"
Helrek chuckled lightly as Givan began to savor each bite he took, and folded his arms as he stared into the crowd. He liked it when towns were full instead of empty, it made him feel more at home, given he grew up in a city full of people. He loved the crowds, and how happy everyone he met was. It made it a wonderful time when he went to the places.
The Argonian then spoke as he looked around the table. "Where's the meat?"
Princess Celestia giggled across from him. "I apologize, I told the ponies that you all eat meat as well, and... one of them didn't take it all that well. But do not worry, I will make sure that you could at least eat the fishes from the lakes, or possibly animals from the woods that nopony are friends with."
The Argonian raised an eyebrow. "Aren't there other races that eat meat? I mean, everyone would be in full blown panic otherwise."
Celestia nodded. "Indeed, the Griffons eat meat as well, which makes the ponies here less then worried about it."
The Argonian simply shrugged, and sat back down as Helrek spoke. "You know, you never gave us a name when we met."
"Because I don't need to."
"Come on, there gots to be something we can call you."
The Argonian sighed heavily. "Di-Meen."
The two nodded in appreciation, and leaned back in their seats, continuing to watch the party as it went off. They stayed silent as they enjoyed the food and punch, and soon the night had come... in a rather strange way, before they were led to the hollowed out tree, and heard Twilight speak. "Well, here we are. Your rooms will be up the stairs, across from mine. If your all tired, then get some sleep, we got a big day tomorrow."
Helrek and Givan nodded their thanks and headed up the stairs, while Di-Meen stayed silent, and was examining the entire room. This made Twilight speak to him. "Is something wrong?"
Di-Meen shook his head. "No, I just expected to be thrown in the basement or something given I'm two things that peo-er ponies, hate. I was expecting to be considered an outcast, not given a warm bed and food."
Twilight smiled kindly. "Don't worry, so long as you don't do anything wrong, we'll let you stay." She then grew a little worried. "But... as for blood..."
Di-Meen quickly stopped her, pulling out a large, red vial. "Don't worry, I got these... they aren't real blood, but they satisfy the need all the same."
Twilight smile returned at that. "That's good, I was worried there for a second." She then trotted over to the stairs, before glancing at him. "Are you going to get some sleep?"
Di-Meen shook his head. "No, I need to let the... beast, have some freedom in the forest, otherwise it'll become a problem tomorrow. He doesn't kill unless attacked, but can be a bit hard to calm."
Twilight slowly nodded, a little worried, but hid it. "I see, just please, be careful."
"I have more power over the form then you think, Twilight."
She nodded. "Alright, goodnight."
Di-Meen nodded, and turned to the door, before pulling off the armor, revealing the rags he wore under it, and took a deep breath, before he felt himself begin to change. Fur began to grow over his entire body, and his now dog like face grew with sharp teeth, and his hands grew longer claws then the usual ones. He then climbed out the front door, leaving a shocked Twilight, as she's never seen a transformation, and after a few minutes, she heard a howl, which earned others from whatever's in the Everfree. This made her gulp a bit.
Please stay safe.
