Ponies use it to announce their overall affection for their significant other, family, or favorite object. Though, it's also one of those words that isn't even required to be said to get your point across that they do, in fact, love whom or what they are directing it to. But they never ask themselves "What is love?" without a "Baby don't hurt me" tagged onto it and actually figure it out. I mean, let's be honest here, when we engage in giving or receiving affection we don't squander our thoughts on such philosophical questions. It seems like that subject they tend to avoid because ponies generally feel that they don't need to answer it! Most who tend to ask themselves What is love, they often feel like they are not loved, or at least, loved little. Once certain pony, a miss Twilight Sparkle, seems to be asking such a question. Twilight jolted awake. she rubbed her eyes and let out a sigh. She had that dream again. She stood in an open field the sky was a brilliant blue-black and the moon was full, splashing it's silky white light over the smooth landscape. There was a dense fog probably a little over two yards in front of her. Every night, a tall, luxurious mare would emerge from the fog. She bore a striking resemblance to Princess Luna, but something felt different about her. She lacked her shoes, crown, and jewelry. Her hair flowed like Luna's, exactly like Luna's in fact. This mare came to her at first, once a month. Then it happened weekly. Soon, she was having this dream every night when she fell asleep. The mare would just talk to her, she knew everything about her. Her name, her accomplishments, everything. Though, the previous night, something happened. The strange mare came to her in her sleep once more, this time confirming it was Luna. She sat down in the field and politely asked Twilight to join her. Luna spoke to her in a sweet voice, explaining how she was coming to her in her sleep because she felt something strange irradiating from Twilight's general being. She nodded, showing understanding. Though one thing that did shake her up slightly. Luna gave her a peck on the cheek before disappearing into the fog, this immediately ended the dream. Twilight jolted awake. She rubbed her eyes and let out a sigh. Both confused and longing for Luna's presence again. Though she was Celestia's student, she always took a special liking to her. Something about Luna made her thoughts flow faster and her heart race. Though the princess sent her body into entropy, it was a lovely feeling that she had lived with for four years now and counting. She wiped the pool of drool from her desk and sat up. Her messy mane was evidence enough that she was out for at least a few hours and the pool of drool symbolized how accidental the nap was. She stood up and trotted to the bathroom when she was intercepted by her faithful assistant, Spike. "Er, Twilight?" He called "Yeah Spike?" She questioned, rubbing her left eye. "You have a visitor, and she's rather..." He zoned out as he saw the shadow of said visitor loomed over him. "Rather what, Spike the dragon?" Luna asked slyly. "U-uh, nothing Princess!" He replied nervously. She raised an eyebrow and looked at Twilight, who was staring at her contently. "Spike, may I speak to Twilight Sparkle alone please?" She asked the purple dragon. He nodded and scuttled off downstairs. Silence blanketed the area as she sat down on her bed. This was a different Luna. Like in the dream, she lacked all of her royal apparel and she was acting rather, how should I say, informal. "So, how are your reports coming Twilight?" Luna asked nonchalantly. "They're, uh, going great I suppose" She responded, topping it off with a sheepish smile. Luna's placid expression turned into a discerning one. She made her way to Twilight and sighed. "Twilight... I just wanted to tell you that.... I...." She trailed off and Twilight finished for her. "Been lingering in my dreams?" She helped her finish. Luna nodded. "Forgive me, I just... I felt.... something.... it's making my heart race as we speak." She notified her. Twilight smiled that sheepish smile of her's once more. "I think I know what you mean... I feel it too." She disclosed. The looked into each other's eyes, an observer would have thought of it as soul searcher before Luna closed the gap between them, taking a few steps foreword, kissing her. They held this for moments before breaking it off, losing each themselves in each other's gaze once again. The realization hitting them made the blood rush to their cheeks. Twilight turned away, trying futilely to hide her red-stained cheeks, while Luna just stared. She has felt almost every emotion strongly, including hate. Though, this was so diverse compared to the others, she found herself getting lost in her mind feeling this new, rather intense feeling. Twilight finally gained the courage to look back at the princess. She found herself locking eyes with her for several more minutes. Nearly three minutes of staring, broke with another moment long kiss. This time, however, it was initiated by Twilight. After the moment passed, they found each other's tongue once more. "I uh, you know um..." Twilight spoke in fragments. "R-right, I should probably...." She trailed off. "...go..." Twilight finished for her. "Y-yeah, that.... I should probably...go...." She said solemnly. Luna began to trot to the stair case before Twilight stopped her. "Princess!" She called "Er.... yes Twilight Sparkle?" She asked nervously. "I'll um.... see you tonight..." She smiled sweetly. Luna's maw was now decorated with a half-smile. "And I you, Twilight." And with that, she took her leave out the library door and felt the best she's felt in years. Two-Thousand of them to be exact. Twilight sat on her bed and sighed. Mixed emotions flooded her mind like a mild hurricane. Maybe this was it, the real thing. Though she never felt the fake thing, being that Luna just stole her first kiss. She flopped on the bed and, once again, fell asleep.
Fragment One: The Worst DreamView OnlineDeath Should Not Have Come To TheeFragment One: The Worst DreamLuna's hoof steps echoed through the fog as she approached Twilight. Twilight was sitting there as usual, but something seemed different. They have had their meetings like this before, but usually Twilight is sitting in the field facing Luna's general entrance point with a beautiful smile on her face. But this time, Twilight was facing away from her, and she could feel the utter confusion irradiate off of her. Luna approached her. "Twilight are you alright?" Twilight shot up and turned around "Luna! Um, yeah! I just... uh... don't know how I got here..." Luna tilted her head in confusion before a giggle erupted from her. "Twilight, my dear! You know you must have fallen asleep to get here!" Twilight sighed. "That's the problem, you see. I was in the middle of organizing the shelves at the library, and I had a decent sleep the night before, but for some reason I can't remember dozing off." She muttered. Luna's expression faded into a serious one as she stared at Twilight "Most curious indeed, I'll go and see if I can wake you." Twilight nodded. "That would be best, thank you Luna." Luna nodded before focusing all of her energy into sending Twilight back to Equestria. The air thickened and a pale blue light began to surround both Luna's horn and lightly around Twilight. Luna's eyes widened as she began to realize that there was no link between the real world and dream scape present. Her horns light faded. "Twilight I- I don't think I can!" She admitted baffled. "What? Why is that Luna?" She asked. Luna shook her head in disbelief as she spoke. "Twilight, I can't find what connects you between this world and Equestria! I have to go back and pull you out physically!" She said, panic causing her voice to quiver a bit. Twilight nodded, approaching Luna. "Hey Luna?" Luna stared at the violet alicorn. "Yes?" Twilight smiled with a quizzical expression. "You'll come back for me, right?" Luna smiled warmly as she waltzed over to Twilight, embracing her and giving her a light peck on the cheek before reassuring her mate. "Of course I will, Twilight." With that, Twilight sat back down as Luna's horn began to glow once more, fading the princess into nothingness. Luna shot up in her quarters. She glanced around to find that she was in her bed, where she fell asleep. She shot up out of bed and began to prepare her teleportation spell. With a blink of an eye she was in front of Ponyville's famous town hall. She took time to get used to her surroundings, then bolted to the library Twilight was most likely occupying. She slowed her pace into a halt when she noticed the ponies in navy blue uniforms. Ponyville's police officers we wandering about the grounds of the library, a few discussing something, a couple others entering and exiting the library, and a few eating doughnuts by one of the stands. Luna continued to watch, curious and baffled by the sight. It took the sight of a paramedic rushing in to cause her to remember why she was here. She galloped to the library, her presence causing most of the police ponies to bow, but she didn't care, her main priority was Twilight Sparkle. She made her way through the door way and stopped dead in her tracks. Inside, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Apple Jack, Rainbow Dash, and Spike were crowded around something. She approached the point of interest to get a better look, and her blood ran cold. She know why Twilight couldn't wake up. She was laying on the ground, oxygen mask placed over her mouth. Tears were streaming down the faces of her friends except for Apple Jack, who was biting her lip, attempting to hold back any signs of emotion, and Rainbow Dash, whose gaze was locked on the wood paneling. She chocked on her words. "W-what happened?" The six turned their gaze to Luna. Pinkie was the first to speak, her mane flat with depression and sadness, her mind bubbly in panic. "S-she was getting a book, and she fell head first off the ladder by the stair case." She stopped to wipe her tears and sniffle a bit. "Then she fell down the stairs and... and..." She began to wail, Fluttershy held her and joined in on the wailing, though her wail was more of a quiet sobbing. She turned her head and walked over to a paramedic. "You there! Please tell us that Twilight Sparkle will be okay!" She bellowed. The paramedic looked at her grimly. "We don't know yet, Princess... but she...." He was cut off by his co-worker sounding off behind him. Everything she heard turned into a murmur as the words spoken next tore her heart out. "Time of death, 5:36 PM" Everypony's wails increased, almost unbearably so. Tears began to roll down Luna's cheeks, but she shook her head. This couldn't be happening. "NO! I REFUSE TO ACCEPT SUCH VILE OCCURRENCES HATH HAPPENED!" She bellowed before charging out of the library. She teleported back to her quartered and fell unto her bed, drifting into a deep sleep. She charged through the fog, determined to find Twilight. She ran to the field where they always met, but found nothing. Maybe she ran the wrong way in her state of mind? She searched the entire area before the realization hit that Twilight was gone. Both in the dream world, and the real one. She fell down, her whole world spinning out of control. She had broken her promise, and as a result. Never would see that beautiful violet face again, with those stunning eyes. She would never feel her embrace. Her body tingled, she was cold. So very cold. She shot up out of her bed, her room was empty. The only light was from the moon, which was flooding in her window, splashing on her bed and most of her floor. She let out a sigh. She still felt cold, it had to be real. Oh, Why does it have to be real...

"It's six in the evening and the moon needs rising." "You do it." "Luna! it is your responsibility! Please make sure it remains so!" Luna sat up in her bed. "It doesn't matter what is my responsibility! I failed to protect her! I failed, Celestia, I failed!" She cried. Celestia stood at the foot of her bed, not knowing how to respond to her sister's emotional downfall. "Luna..." "What?! What do you want from me!" Celestia approached her sister, sitting down on the edge of the bed as she let out a defeated sigh. "I just don't want you to do this again Luna." Luna remained quiet, dropping her gaze to the lavender sheets that covered her partially. "That want happen again, sister. I just need some time." She mumbled. Celestia put a hoof around her shoulders, pulling her in for a warm embrace. "I know it hurts Luna, but shutting yourself out won't stop the pain." With that, she stood up and began making her way to her bedroom door. "Besides, it's not healthy for you to be cooped up in this tower for the rest of your existence and you know that." She said as she left the bedroom, leaving Luna alone, her only companions being the evening sunlight pouring through her balcony doorway and the utter silence that blanketed the area. It had been two weeks since Twilight's fatal accident, and nothing has changed. The pain didn't ease, her heart didn't heal, and her mind couldn't piece anything together. With a lot of thought and a heavy sigh, she got out of bed. She approached her mirror adjacent to her bed. She gazed into her reflection, her eyes matching her own. The heavy bags under her eyes and the messy mane only shown her mentality in a physical form. A soft knock was heard from her door. "Enter" The door opened a crack before swinging open slowly. Rarity stood just beyond the boundary of her room with a grim expression on her normally pristine face. Luna made a futile attempt at composing herself before turning around. "Oh! Hello!" "Good evening princess." 'Evening? Could it really be evening?' Luna thought, giving a quick, subconscious glance at the window. 'Oh yeah, Celestia said it was...' "Are you alright?" Rarity asked, puzzled by the lack of attention Luna was showing her. Luna shook her head and gave a slight nod. "Excluding the circumstances, I'm-" She trailed off a bit, her gaze meeting the floor. "-fine, I suppose." "That's... good... I suppose." Rarity shuffled her hooves a bit. "Do you... have business with me?" Luna asked nonchalantly. "I do, though it isn't the best kind of business, and it's probably a bit early to speak to you about it. Though, I think you should know." Rarity said. Luna tilted her head to the right slightly. Rarity nodded. "May I take you out for a bite?" Luna thought about it. Is it possible that Rarity is trying to replace Twilight? What sort of friend does that! Luna shook her mind of such thoughts and with a quiet sigh she agreed to go. The two walked the streets of Canterlot in search of a cafe or a quiet restaurant. The streets were as busy as ever. Some grew quiet when Luna passed, knowing what had recently transpired. When they finally found a cafe, they took their seats and ordered a couple of drinks. Luna ordered a latte, whereas Rarity ordered a Caffe Medici, which was basically an espresso with chocolate syrup, an orange slice, and a over abundance of whipped cream. "So, what did you need?" Luna asked, sipping at her latte. Rarity ran the tip of her hoof around the rim of her espresso. "It's not what I need, darling, it's what we need. Not just you and I, but all of us. You see, I've studied what happened to her, and..." Rarity trailed off. "and what?" Luna asked, anxiety building. "Luna... There is no way Twilight's untimely passing was an accident."
