The first time is always the hardest
Allie stared wistfully at the television as the occasional bar of static flashed on the television set before returning towards is regularly scheduled programming. The show which was going to a length to call it that was a the world news broadcasting station, warning people to stay inside and this situation was under control, this was essentially background noise to her at this point, everything seemed to file its way under that category. Nothing seemed to drown out the death gurgle of the corpse that was to her right, it played continuously in her mind as the lifeless eyes stared into hers before she caved its skull in with her now dented baseball bat.
Her eyes peeled to right as she felt her throat tighten as nausea washed over her, this was her third time looking at the corpse and it still seemed impossible, and yet here it was proof that she had taken a life or unlife for that matter. Allie noticed the stains of blood that melded with the corpses blonde hair, the small specks littering the leftover of her face, the rest of it smashed in with the occasional gray jelly like brain on the ground in slopping pile. She didn't know what to properly say at the sight, she just knew that she had killed a classmate an despite whatever misgiving's she had for her she didn't deserve this, nobody did.
"I take it you knew her then?" A gruff voice called out from behind her, he was partly the reason that she had this unfortunate soul on her floor to begin with.
It was curiosity that made her world come crashing down around her. Allie had heard a struggle outside her apartment of peeks she saw her guest struggle with a girl half of his age, and it was moments later they came crashing into the room, she clung to the cheap metal bat as the teen snarled, lunging at the old man holding her at bay with nothing but his bare hands while he laid on the floor. 'Hit her!' he yelled and instinctively she swung the bat into the teens ribs, the only thing it did was knock her off of him and made her a target of the teens rage. The next few moments were blurry, what she did remember was standing over her and delivering the finishing blow, and that look she saw as she delivered it.
"Look, um kid since I'm sorry for your loss....but it was either us or her." The stranger said as he rubbed his purple beard in thought. "I guess an introduction is in order, I'm Purple Dart. I work at the station, which doesn't speak much for me since I got beaten by a teenager." The joke fell flat as he watched her look away, her mind obviously elsewhere. "Well I think we should leave, or the ones downstairs will eventually move their way up like that one did."
"Downstairs?" Allie's words were barely above a whisper as she looked at the dented bat and then out the door, a glint of hope in her eyes.
"If your thinking about going down their, you might as well just jump out the window save those corpses time to get to the juicy parts and saves you the pain of being ripped into by one." Dart said wistfully as he watched the girl pace towards the bat grabbing the handle, heading towards her window, taking the smallest of glances out of it, before pulling her head back in, glancing back at the doorway. "Not minding you showing a little backbone or even you not talking to me, but mind sharing what you have going on up there?"
Allie Way blinked as she looked at him, before taking one spare glance outside the window. "The fire escape, I think if I can get into the room next door, I can use it and see if my friend's still alive, I'm sure if she's alive she's terrified at the moment." Allie said as she rummaged through the cabinets, cheap knives clattering with spoons and forks as she looked for anything that she could hazard to use as a weapon, that wouldn't be useless after her first use with it.
"Give me a second I'm sure I have something that you'd appreciate more than a baseball bat." Dart smiled as he left the room leaving her alone to clean herself and prepare for whatever she was going to do.
She felt no need to rush as she felt the rush of water hit her bare chest as she took probably the last shower she'd have in her life. Dried blood fell from her hair as she lathered it with a rose smelling shampoo, the scent cancelling out the rotting smell that clung t her hair, for how long she didn't know but it would do for now. The rest of her shower was spent making sure she wasn't covered in anymore blood, before stepping out to dry herself off.
It was this moment where no adrenaline was pumping through her veins, no split-second decisions, nothing to distract that she could honestly think of what she wanted to truly do. She was positive that saving her friend was the best course of action, Cloudchaser ad always been there for her and it wouldn't be right not to do the same for her in this situation. Allie just prayed to whoever was listening that Cloud had coped with the situation as well as she had, though she more of adjusted to it after nearly snapping on the verge of hysteria, the kind officer bringing her back to reality as he explained and showed her how things had gone downhill so quickly.
She grasped at the idea that the police or maybe the military had an understanding of the situation, but with the way Purple Dart held himself, it didn't inspire confidence in her at all. Though on the positive side she felt she could trust him and that's what mattered at the moment. Allie slipped out of her musings as she snaked her bra on, looking away from the reflection as she slipped her last piece of undergarments on.
Allie imagined herself hesitating as she sifted through her clothing deciding what to keep and what not too, it wasn't the case I fact almost everything seemed to just find its way on the floor deemed not necessary for her new life. She slipped on her bowling jersey, it was probably something she didn't need but it felt wrong leaving it behind along with everything else. She sighed as she grabbed the last piece of clothing, slipping the pair of jeans on. Her hands covered in her pair of gloves as she put on her pair of sneakers with a huff as she exited the room finding her ally here.
Purple Dart now standing over the corpse as he examined it one last time before glancing at her, now holding what appeared to be a handle in his hand. "Its a riot baton kid, figured, you feel safer swinging something that hurts and can be hidden can be stored away for later." He said as fixed his holster, the gun clearly in its place.
"I'm sure you'd rather have this old thing by your side, but if your not certified to use this, there's no way I'm letting you shoot yourself in the foot or more importantly someone else." The cop said with finality as he drummed his fingers on the polished black belt, smiling idly as he handed the baton over to her, and with that small gesture the world seemed to have gotten a bit brighter in Aliie Way's eyes. "Look I'm not sure how to tell if they are really dead or not but I hope I don't need to tell you that I'm counting on you to put her down if she turns out to be one of them."
"She won't be..." The words weren't as full of vigor as Allie wanted it to be, but she believed her friend would make it and that's all she needed to try and rescue her, so with one last look at the corpse on the ground, her throat tightening as she draped a sheet pver it before exiting the room, having no intention of entering it ever again.
"Goodbye Cloud Kicker."
