Part 1 - And So It Begins...

Shining Star drew Nightmare Moon on the chalkboard. He was substituting for somepony on the festive Nightmare Night. "Hopefully all of you know what tonight is."

"Of course Mr. Shine," Apple Bloom said hoof raised. "It's Nightmare Night!" Shining Star smiled. "You are correct Apple Bloom. I hope all of you have decided on what you all are going out as on this festive night. If not, I've got some ready for you as you leave this room. Any questions?"

"Are some cute?" Sweetie Belle asked.

"Most are."

"Can we dress up as you?" asked a gray pony.

"If you're able to."

"Mr. Shine, why are you subbing? Is Cheerilee sick?" Scootaloo asked.

"I'm subbing because Cheerilee was too busy with other things. She's preparing for Princess Luna to raise the moon."

"Oh."

"So ponies, other than that you can probably guess who I'll be and what I'll be doing tonight. For those of you that don't know, I'll be glad to tell you during this free period."

Snips and Snails overheard everything outside the school and ran to Trixie's hideaway. "Miss Trixie!"

"What is it this time?" Trixie asked annoyed. "I know it is Nightmare Night, the night every Filly, Colt, and Mare go out as different characters and even explore Everfree to their own free will. I HATE IT TO THE BONE! Little Miss Trixie never even gets a word about it!"

"We've found out that Shining Star might be heading with them to keep them safe."

"THAT LITTLE PONY!?" Trixie yelled out surprised. "Something has got to be done. We cannot let this night survive. We have to do something about it, and I've got a plan to stop that hero from being... well... a hero!"

"What is it Trixie?"

"Ever heard of the Nightmare Spell? I plan to use it to turn all of Ponyville upside down. GET THE POTION READY SNIPS!" Snips ran to start making the potion. "Soon Ponyville will know what true fear is on Nightmare Night." Trixie gave out an evil laugh as she vanished.

At the end of school, Shining Star started walking with the Cutie Mark Crusaders. "I have been invited by Princess Luna and Celestia to head to Canterlot for a night. It is okay if you girls want to head with me, I'll keep you safe at all costs."

"Oh cool!" Scootaloo said happily. Then he said, "SHINE LOOK AN ALIEN!"

"WHERE!?" He looked in every direction but all he saw was a cardboard cutout of a Spaceship on Sugarcube Corner. "Oh I get it."

"Just try not to be like you always are," Apple Bloom warned. "We all know yer too gullible."

"I'll try my best Apple Bloom." Or... maybe not... They soon reached a place where a brown package was at. "This is it." He opened it up and pulled out a knight outfit. "Perfect!" he said happily.

"What is it?" Sweetie Belle asked.

"It's the knight outfit Shining Armor sent. It was said to match the style of magic I use."

"Oh, that's neat!" Shining Star smiled. "Now I should get ready for tonight because I have to go through Everfree to get to Canterlot."

"Can't you just use the train?"

"Do I have a bag like Robin Hood's?"

"That proved your point..." Sweetie Belle sighed. "I don't even know who I should be."

Shining Star got a great idea. "Go ask Rarity, she has a lot of great ideas! I saw Vinyl Scratch the other day dressed up as that keyboardist from Edgar Winter Group there."

"Oh, so that was the Mare in a Colt outfit." Shining Star nodded and then they both said, "CROSSDRESSER!"

Apple Bloom thought for a moment. A mare in colt's clothing. How original...

"So Shine," she said, "I was thinking about Trixie this year."

"What about her Bloom?"

"Well, she always misses out on this night. Is she planning to sabotage Nightmare Night this time?"

"Let's hope she doesn't." The Cutie Mark Crusaders and Shining Star brohoofed and went to their homes. Shining Star then accidentally bumped into Twilight Sparkle. "Sorry Twilight."

"Wandering with the Crusaders again? What were you four talking about this time?"

"We were talking about Nightmare Night, who we want to be, and we were also worried about Trixie Lulamoon."

"Why is that?" Twilight asked curiously. "Well, I have a feeling that she is going to use a spell on this place," Shining Star replied.

"A spell..." Twilight brought out her spellbook. "There is one that is very dangerous tonight. As long as she doesn't use the Nightmare Spell, we'll all be safe."

"I'm not sure Twilight. She always has a back-up plan to use spells."

"Then we gotta be very careful." Shining Star nodded and he continued walking.

"Snips!" Trixie snapped. "Is the potion ready yet!?"

Snips ran back to her carefully holding the potion. "Ready Miss Trixie." Trixie grabbed it. She snickered. "At last, the Nightmare Spell has finally completed. Once the moon hits where the liquid is correctly, Ponyville will then be consumed, by the NIGHTMARE OF DARKNESS."

Snips and Snails quickly ran off. Trixie was determined that the spell would work. "And this time, not even Twilight Sparkle could stop me." She laughed darkly.

And so it begins...

Part 2 - Let the Fun Commence!

Princess Luna was watching at the Canterlot lookout watching the sun go down. "This is it, let the fun commence." She opened her wings and her horn glowed. She suddenly lifts up into the sky as the moon rises with her. Soon the moon was at its full height and Luna went back down to the ground. "Nightmare Night has officially started." Luna smiled.

At the same time, Trixie's plan went into full swing. Her potion for the Nightmare Spell was already in the ground. "Now I wait for the fun to really get going." She started laughing evily.

Meanwhile, Shining Star was rushing out of Twilight's home. "Can't talk now Twily, I gotta go be the early pony!"

"Okay, have fun!" she replied.

Shining Star met up with the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Apple Bloom was dressed as a Flareon, Scootaloo was wearing a Pony Hawk outfit, and Sweetie Belle was dressed as Sleeping Beauty. Shining Star then said, "You three ready for a fun night?"

"Ready Shining Star!"

"Alright, let's go!" He ran off to Everfree with the Cutie Mark Crusaders following. Trixie snickered as the four ran off. "Who can stop me now!?"

Celestia walked over to Luna, who was laying down worried that something bad was going to happen. "Is something wrong sis?" she asked.

"Well, I am sort-of worried... I feel as though I'm going to be insanitized again, only stronger than before and much more dark."

"Don't worry, you're gonna be fine just like last year."

"I guess you're right..." Luna stood back up and looked down at Ponyville before heading into the castle. Celestia smiled. "Do not worry so much about the future. Remember what happened the last time that happened?" Luna facehoofed herself. "It was a long week when that happened..." She then looked around for any other ponies. There was no one yet but Prince Shining Armor and Pincess Cadance. "Is everything ready?" Luna asked them.

"Everything is ready for tonight," they replied.

"Okay, thanks." She managed a weak smile as she walked away.

Trixie was waiting for the moon to rise a bit more. She could see the Mane Six and the other ponies doing their normal Nightmare Night. She sighed. "Any slower and I might as well forget about this... Was their something I was forgetting this whole time, or is the moon not at the correct angle yet? It could be both..." The moon suddenly went to the correct height, but the effects started somewhere else.

Shining Star and the Cutie Mark Crusaders were still in the Everfree Forest, 2 miles from Canterlot. They heard a slight rumble and then they saw a giant fist come from the ground near Shining Star. A giant lava monster then suddenly formed in the shape of a Dragon. "LAVA DRAGON!" they yelled. The dragon roared. "I love the smell of fear in the evening," it said as it blew smoke at the CMC. They coughed for a few seconds, then ran and hid while Shining Star was frozen in fear. He then suddenly remembered the Element of Harmony he had with him. "Nothing will scare me anymore." He suddenly put his necklace on and stood with two hooves on the ground. "Henshin." He tapped it once and suddenly turned into his Caring form. "I'm ready to take you on..." The lava dragon laughed and then suddenly breathes fire at Shining Star. He quickly moved out of the way and blasted water from his horn. "Fire vs. Water. What wins?"

"Water?" Applebloom answered, scared of the lava dragon.

"On track!" Shine replied. The lava dragon exploded. Shining Star turned back to normal. "Where did that creature come from?"

"From the ground, where else?" Scootaloo replied. The four then continued their long walk to Canterlot. Snips and Snails watched in horror and then ran back to Trixie.

"Princess Luna, a lava dragon just exploded from an intense wave of Harmony," Doctor Hooves said to Luna. "Was it Shining Star on his way here with the Crusaders?" she asked.

"Most likely."

"If he keeps this up he'll be burnt trying to save those fillies' lives."

"If that is true, I'll get the nurse ready for a search party to go and heal him back up." Doctor Hooves walked off. Luna then thought for a moment. Did somepony cast the Nightmare Spell? If so, who could it be?

"Miss Trixie, the spell worked!" Snips and Snails said in unison.

"Then why didn't it start here? Oh of course! It starts from one Element of Harmony! Now, the creatures will start coming here. When they do, every single pony in Ponyville will be SCARED."

"But, it failed to defeat Shining Star!"

"Then let's put its skills to the test. It is far from over." Lightning suddenly exploded in the sky. She was right.

It was only the beginning.

Part 3 - Dangerous Enemies

The Cutie Mark Crusaders and Shining Star were very close to Canterlot nearing the top of the next hour. However, things were starting to get nasty in Ponyville. Rainbow Dash was the first to notice when she checked to see if everypony was okay. She heard a strong rumble as Nightmare Changelings started appearing near the Everfree Forest. "CHANGELINGS!!" she cried out. Many ponies gasped, few passed out. Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy decided to hold them off for as long as possible. Trixie watched and then said to herself, "The Great and Powerful Trixie does it again, succeeding in scaring everypony." She laughed evily. "I have this entire Nightmare Night locked up." Twilight Sparkle glared at Trixie. "Just you wait Trixie, just you wait..." She suddenly backhoofs a Changeling, showing that she is defending her home.

Princess Luna felt a strange feeling. "The Nightmare Spell is active in Ponyville. It won't stop until it is destroyed." She quickly went to the lookout and flew off from it. Celestia understood what she was doing easily and turned away. "Go get her sister." Prince Shining Armor and Princess Cadance walked to the lookout and watched Luna flying off. They knew something terrible was happening and they didn't like the look of things.

Shining Star watched as Luna took flight towards Ponyville. "Something must be going down in Ponyville. It must be..."

"THE NIGHTMARE SPELL!" the Crusaders finished for him.

"We gotta get there! Everypony on!" The Crusaders got onto Shining Star. "I would do this Headless Horse styled, but let's take a shortcut. Tonight we fly into the dark part of Ponyville and ride off into the sunset! ... That would hurt..." He suddenly lifted up into the air, spread his wings and flew towards Ponyville.

"JUST YOU WAIT, TRIXIE! YOU'RE NEXT! Then Canterlot... possibly."

"What should we do?" Apple Bloom asked.

"I might not be so good at design, but I can tie them up to cancel out their powers," Sweetie Belle suggested.

"I can take to the skies and attack the Pegasi Changelings to cut them off course," Scootaloo added.

"I might do somethin' 'bout the Changelings on the ground, bucking them away," said Apple Bloom.

"Then I'll finish it with a blast," Shining Star ended. The Cutie Mark Crusaders brohoofed.

The Mane Six were fighting back at the never-ending Changeling army. The Ponyville ponies couldn't help but watch the horror being shown. Changelings disappeared when defeated, which made room for more Changelings. They tried their best, countering everything that the Changelings could throw at them. They fought against not only themselves in the battle, but all the other ponies in ponyville. It seemed as though all hope would be lost for them. "There is just too many Twilight!" Rarity said.

"If we give up, Ponyville could be destroyed." The Mane Six looked real tired looking ready to give up. Just when all their hope was finally gone, they heard a loud, "HENSHIN!"

Shining Star suddenly swooped down to them as he turned into his Caring Form. "Crusaders, you ready!?" Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Apple Bloom suddenly jumped off him. "Attack!"

The four rushed at the Changelings, finishing each one off as the Mane Six watched, jaws nearly touching the ground. Sweetie Belle used her magic to wrap up each Changeling, cancelling its powers. Scootaloo swooped down using her wings to their full potential to cut off the Pegasi Changeling course. Apple Bloom backhoofed a few Changelings into others then finishing them all off with a head-on strike. Shining Star blasted away the final 12 that remained and sighed in relief. "Finally, I can rest after that battle..."

The Mane Six were amazed at how strong the Cutie Mark Crusaders were in battle. Luna suddenly touched the ground after a long flight. "Great job my fellow ponies, you all are stronger than I expected." The Cutie Mark Crusaders smiled happily. Luna suddenly walked over to Trixie, who looked like she was limping.

"STAND BACK!" she commanded and fired a blast at Luna. She quickly dodged. Trixie levitated into the air, eyes fully white. "You may have stopped my army, but it isn't over until I say so! Behold, the Great and Powerful Trixie's TRUE POWER!" Lightning crashed in the sky.

Shining Star gasped. "The Nightmare Spell made her evil! We gotta try and stop her before it is too late!"

Part 4 - Nightmare Trickster

"This Night is over."

Luna rushed at Trixie blasting her with her Night spells. Trixie was too fast and backhoofed Luna in the face and blasted her away. Luna fell onto the ground with her horn burnt from the blast. She could feel tears streaming down as Twilight Sparkle rushed to her aid. "Luna! Don't give up already!" she said.

"Don't worry about me, worry about Trixie," Luna softly replied.

Shining Star looked at Trixie. "Looks like we'll have to do this the hard way." The Cutie Mark Crusaders got in front of Shining Star and then rushed at Trixie. "You really think you can beat me? I am stronger now." She cut Scootaloo off course giving Sweetie Belle enough time to make a crystal shard fly into the air and Apple Bloom enough time to be ready to ram her. Trixie took care of Scootaloo easily (causing her to pass out) and then stopped Apple Bloom using her magic. Her tail got shortened by the shard's point that she gave out a yell and lose control of her powers. A mountain on the other side of Equestria erupted, a pig was given wings, and she fired a blast at Sweetie Belle making her dizzy and pass out. "Colts and Mares, I am Nightmare Trickster," she announced.

Shining Star had sweat rolling down his mane. "Celestia raises the sun, Luna raises the moon. What could I raise to save Equestria?" Before he could answer himself, Trixie knocked him straight into the air. He used his wings to control where he'll fly. His horn lit up as he flew higher into the sky. A star was being raised at the same time. Everypony gasped.

"Is that...? Could it be...? What the hay? Beautiful! 20% COOLER! Is that the...?"

Shining Star nodded. "The North Star rises again." Trixie was not impressed. "Do whatever you want. It won't help you." Shining Star then tapped his Element of Harmony. "FULL CHARGE!" He suddenly flied down at Trixie real fast and struck her faster than she can use her magic.

"I'm more than just your average pony
I give my care so suddenly."

Shining Star and Trixie traded blows for a while. "Shining Star is not holdin' back," Applejack said.

"Indeed," Rarity replied. "He seems to be taking this as a threat to everypony and is using his anger to his advantage."

"Then why'd he raise that star?" Twilight asked. Luna got up and said, "It was his birthstar of course."

"What the hay does that even mean?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"I'll explain later." Shining Star launched Trixie into the air and put his front hooves out like he was gonna fly, but fired a blast straight at Trixie. Trixie dodged out of the way and dived at him. Shining Star dodged at the last second causing Trixie to fall hard and make a crater. "Lucky shot..." Shining Star then tackled Trixie locking her into place. "Twilight, NOW!" Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the Mane Six put on their Elements of Harmony. The six suddenly levitated into the air and had a Rainbow Aura surround them. "FIRE!" Twilight exclaimed as a rainbow went straight for Trixie. Shining Star dodged out of the way in time.

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!"

Trixie turned back to normal seriously damaged from the fight. Shining Star turned into his normal form really tired. The Cutie Mark Crusaders woke up and shook off the pain. "Any longer and we would've had to get extra help from Celestia," Scootaloo said. Trixie suddenly woke up with sadness in her eyes. "I-I'm sorry Twilight Sparkle..."

Twilight Sparkle smiled. "I forgive you. You did one thing right today. You scared everypony on this frightening night." It was true. Every pony in Ponyville big and small was scared that night without any warning at all. But somehow, they knew it was originally supposed to be a prank until it suddenly got too out of hand. Trixie just sat in the crater thinking to herself. Why? Why does everything backfire so badly on poor, little Trixie? Trixie stood back up silent for a moment, then turned away. "This will be the last you'll see me try to be even with you Twilight."

"Don't say that!" Twilight quickly said. "I really enjoy you trying to be as great as I am. If you have a great mind, you can accomplish anything."

"A great mind..." Trixie then smiled. "I'll spend the rest of Nightmare Night with you ponies." The ponies cheered. "Thanks Trixie," Twilight said.

The night went on as a great holiday, but when it was time to raise the sun, Luna and Shining Star worked together to lower the moon and stars. Trixie walked back home, thanking them for the great night. Shining Star then said to himself, "I guess another holiday has come and gone."
